this is a really good tank im gonna get a 40 gallon tank for a turtle im gonna get and is a 50 watt good cause im gonna get a rock which is much easier to heat up and i think this was good info thanks
Ah! My turtle has the same name. I didn't name her, as she was a hand-me-down, but I thought it was funny that I came across your video. She's an African Side-neck.
what are some other ways to keep your aquarium clean. i have a 30 gallon tank. and a fluval filter. somehow, the water still turns green! also, do you have any recomendations for a dock. i have gone through at least 3 docks. one broke, one the suction cups didnt work and the other was cheap. would you recomend the turtle topper or the turtle bank? i have the one you have n your 60 gallon tank and the suctions dont work. thank you for the help.
i have a question. PLEASE HELP!!!i have a red ear slider just like squirt, his name is ET.. for the last few months he has been sitting on his rock. he doesnt swim around. im worried for ET. is he hibernating?
@frederikhylle I wouldn't worry too much, he just needs to settle in to his new environment keep feeding him (but not the fish, they're way too fatty for him) he'll eat when he's ready.
Hey, nice tank! One think I ntoiced was that you said that all lights are turned off for 12 hours.. Does this mean the only warmth in the tank is the heated water? Sorry I'm new to turtles! :P
No, I think you have made a mistake. You said 'hey i need an answer i have like an adult turtle and i was wondering can it swim in like high water?' And I said YES all turtles can swim in any level of water but the higher the better. You never said anything about box turtles..So that was your mistake.. I was just helping you out. no need to say Oh my F***** God.
Why are they always swimming towards the glass? I mean that they act like they would like to get throught it. After few days they should learn that this is impossible, but they do it all the time.
Well I Have A Baby Red Eared Slider , Its Being Kept In A 10 Gallon Tank , I Do Think She Is A Female But I Am Not Quite Sure . Will I Have To Upgrade , She's About 2 Inches Now .

hi i got 3 question i jus bought 3 red ear slider turtles and do u realy have to have a lamp and do you have to put them in deep water to swim and if there babies can they still swim in deep water...please repy back..ty
i have a turtle named Squirt to and hey PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ANSWER THIS QEUSTION i have one baby turtle do you think i should get another i have a 20 gallon tank and hes the same length and weidth as your's ??? do you think i should get another so he has a friend or no?
@cpcsmith12 hey! i'm not squirt's owner (obviously) but i do have a baby red eared slider and do NOT advise that u get another one unless u can buy a larger aquarium. the rule of thumb is that per 1 inch of turtle, there should be 10 gallons of water. if ur turtle squirt is also 2 and a half inches long, then u should have a 30 gallons tank anyway, so DONT add another turtle until u can get a much bigger tank. good luck! ;)
@HeyHolypie Just the bulb runs around $15 - $20. They are an absolute requirement if the turtle is housed in an indoor aquarium. Lack of UVB will lead to health problems, bone and shell deformities and will also not allow them to process their calcium, leading to organ and shell issues as well.
@HeyHolypie not necesseraly but i would recommend the zoo-med powersun either 100 w or 160 w, it's far more expensive, but offers UVA, UVB, it's a heat lamp and of course offers light, i'm very happy with mine and recommend it to anyone!
@jaelynnful Actually this was his 30 gallon tank. He's since been upgraded to a 60 gallon tank. You can see the video for his big 60 gallon tank in his newer video. Just scroll up to the description for this video, and I've since added the link to the video of his new tank.
@nickbolts10 You will have to upgrade to a VERY large tank. Eastern Painted Turtles get very large just like Red Ear Sliders. If you end up with two males, you'll eventually have to seperate them, as males will fight. Males don't get as large as females, and females get huge, around 12 inches. To house two females, you will eventually need a 240 gallon tank. That 20 gallon tank will only last you a few months at best, so I suggest looking around now and preparing to upgrade in the near future.
@SquirtTheTurt i have to disagree, eastern painted grow up to 8 inches, and thats just a female, and males get up to 6 inches! but he/she will eveentually have to upgrade but not that big maybe like a 150 gallon
@BlammmSugnin Sand substrate is one of the easiest substrates to clean. You simply siphon the debris off the top of the sand, and any sand siphoned up simply falls back to the bottom. Very easy to clean.
@Xcoolaid not trying to be rude..but turtle are not that much money once yuo got your turtle and turtle set up witch if you get of C.L is pretty cheap i got a 60 gallon for $20 plus a filter good deal,, and food.i have 3 water turtle that i spend $15 on a month for food.
@jaelynnful That's rrreeallly lucky! My 75 gallon + Cabinet was $200, used.. and was the cheapest I could find! (mind you, I do live in the country, but the cities nearby had nothing better) Plus a $150 filter that I'm going to need to upgrade soon as they grow, another $80 filter, 2 $30 heaters, about $10 per lightbulb for the basking areas (i have 2 turtles, so 2 basking areas) and $20 for each of the other lights and probably more I'm forgetting - quite a lot!
@pittielove if you look on craigslist you can find thing for free some times.i have foung a lot of stuff for turtles that is free-50 bucks so craiglist has saved me money
@Xxmisscharlotte Squirt gets a staple diet of Reptomin pellets. He's also supplemented with fresh leafy greens like romaine and green leaf lettuce, mustard and collar greens, along with summer squash, zhuccino, carrots, and little fresh fruit like watermelon, strawberries, and pears.
Hi! I love your tank set up, and I have a question to ask you. I have a 5 month old RES and his tank is filled with about 4-6 inches of water. Would it be okay to like, suddenly change to almost all the way filled, like yours?
i really love your tank going to buy that filter getting it imported to the UK cant wait till i get my custom tank to use it. going to do my tank like yours its amazing <3

@21themike From a Google search: || "Red eared sliders need to have their water temperature kept above 70 degrees. From what I've read, 75 to 80 is the best temperature. Buy a thermometer that sticks to the outside of the turtle tank. Put it below the water level on the opposite side of the tank from where the underwater heater is. You are really a good RES turtle keeper one of the best ive seen. I have an RES turtle that is maybe 1 or 2 inches it has a 10 inch gallon tank and a 10 gallon whisper witha 75 watt heater i only have one light it is a UV light is that good or not?

hey that suction pipe thingy that sucks up the water, i saw that at walmart for $30, can it suck up all the water in a tank? because it will be worth it if so
my turtles name is squrt as well and hes 4 months old and i have a question should he b on his basking dock alot cuz i never really see him on it and if i do he goes on and then just jumps off like 2 seconds later is that a problem?????? and nice vid :)
Do u have to fill it up with water like that? Could you do like sand then a tub of water? Because i would rather see my turtle out of the water and on sand instead of swimming. Nice video. :)
@Turtlegirl5678 No, the sand is very easy to clean out using an aquarium siphon. Debris and other waste just lays on top and I skim the siphon over it and it sucks it right out.
love the set up!! I have a RES whos name in Squirt lol and hes about the same size! Also have a YBS who is around 4" long, and is named mr bigglesworth. They are in a 20g tank right now, and will be getting a 60 soon.. Good job on the set up!

Does the sand take a while to settle after you put it in and add water? Does it make the water cloudy?

Do u have to fill it up with water like that? Could you do like sand then a tub of water? Because i would rather see my turtle out of the water and on sand instead of swimming. Nice video. :)

real nice setup i love ur turtle, is the sand hard to clean out?!?!
Turtlegirl5678 1 year ago
@Turtlegirl5678 No, the sand is very easy to clean out using an aquarium siphon. Debris and other waste just lays on top and I skim the siphon over it and it sucks it right out.
