so the head was ported n polish? I hoping to hit 200whp with this setup i have = b18c1 3angle valve job ported n polish with supertech hi-comp valves / dual valve springs and ti-retainers with blox type b tuner series cams. Block is stock bore with type r hi-comp pistons. I have 3" Injen intake with 68mm throttle body, blox intake manifold, rmf header, 360cc injectors and apexi noir exhaust system.
@kBzThorng The head work was bowl reshaping more than a P&P. The ports themselves were untouched. Given my experience I believe the head work was the most important part of the build.
@honda30369 It made 197 hp and 132 ft-lbs of torque on a Mustang Dyno. The numbers were really solid for such a mild build. The head work made most of the difference.
Actually, VTEC is kicking in around 10 seconds. You are hearing the secondary intake runners opening at 15 secdons.
As for "why vtec". In a nutshell, an engine can only make good power over a certain range of RPMs. You can either have an engine that makes good low to mid range power, or an engine that will make great high rpm power but with lousy low end power. One element that really defines those characteristics is the camshaft profiles. The VTEC camshaft has two sets of cam lobes.
A good low rpm cam and a good high rpm cam. The changeover point, when tuned properly, will overlap the power curves of both cams to allow the enging to make good power from low to high rpms.
@importnut are u sayin tat changin only one cam then is gud? can u do that? sorry im bout to get cams for my b18c1 also and im just tryin to figure out wats gud, and wats not, how it works and stuff, reply plz if u can thnxs!

You'll want to change them out as a set unless you really know what you are doing and can combine cams to suit your needs.
