  • Yes, DO worry! I have exact the same problem on a 2 months old HTC Sensation, and it is pretty annoying, as the wifi-connection is lost after the reboot. Only a manual reboot fixes the wifi-connection again!

HTC tells me to do the hard reset, which I've done. But that doesn't solve the problem.

  • My wildfire just rebuted it self while in middle

  • i have the same problem it is really annoying only had the phone for 3 months and it doing it and my phone is the htc desire s the new one some time i just wanna smash it up

  • Yeah that confirms my fears. I noticed infact that the device gets really hot if using videogames or other apps. I suggested thi cause for thes fault at the HTC support team but they didnt confirm. They just suggested a reset of the software. I bought the Phone in Feb 2011 and during the winter I never had any problems. The defect got particularly bad during summer time months...

  • Do not worry, this problem only affects very old Desire lots. No issues of this kind have been reported for devices newer than July 2010, at least to my knoledge.

  • wtfffffffff......:( I WAS going to buy htc desire soon.....:( shittttt......i always defended htc i guess i was wrong..:(

  • it's obviously an overheating issue b/c it shuts off when it gets to hot

  • @belladaz I got it replaced as well now with new motherboard....lol thanks

  • @ i m facing the same issue and i dont know what to do please suggest what to do... i have tried everything possible and the device is still under warranty... help neeeded n this is a nice video i dont feel i m the only one on this planet going through hell... help ppl help .

  • @parasgala1985 : get your device back for repairing, they will replace your mobo immediately as they did with mine. Just one important thing: make sure to describe VERY precisely the reboot issue. I attached this video in DVD just to make sure they understood the phone was definetely broken.

  • You are genius I have tried to look for possible fault problem as well...I realize after rebooting it suddenly becomes hot....hmmm good one but they must fix this urgently.

  • @MrSolumbe : they will, at least here in Italy. I had my mother board completely replaced eventually (even if I had to wait for two months...)

  • Awaiting my from HTC now...hopefully it's sorted you know?

  • I doubt this is hardware problem...

  • @MrPrebeg: yeah.. acute and motivated observation: so it is software problem, right ? in fact, the ABC of Software Engineering tells us that temperature variations impact on how software behaves :D

  • @ i m facing the same issue and i dont know what to do please suggest what to do... i have tried everything possible and the device is still under warranty... help neeeded n this is a nice video i dont feel i m the only one on this planet going through hell... help ppl help .

  • Same here. Replaced motherboard by HTC. New imei number. No probs so far. Fingers crossed

  • My girlfriend's HTC Desire has the same problem. After watching this great video it appears it's not so random. Today, the phone just kept rebooting continuously. I had to take out the SIM card to boot it and then disable the 3G. After that it worked. In case, you're stuck with such a problem and really need to use the phone you may want to try this. Hope this helps someone. And finally, a big Thank you to belladaz! I can't believe HTC has not offered to fix this problem for the masses.

  • i'm having the same problem without fail whenever i use certain apps like Navigation, internet, etc

  • My EVO 4G has been doing the "random reboot" since the Froyo update or thereabouts. I had to root the phone and install an unusual combination of 3G and WIMAX radio ROMs just to make it usable. Sprint complained that it was a software problem, but they never considered that it might be THEIR SOFTWARE that is causing the problem. There went $200 down the drain.

  • I sent my Desire to HTC for repair. It was returned today after one week.It seems to be OK.I'm not sure what was repaired/replaced.The IMEI number has changed. The service from HTC was great.

  • My Desire started crashing last week.Exactly the same problem as Belladaz.I've been in touch with HTC.They never told me the problem seems to be so widespread.I have to send my Desire back to HTC.I've no doubt they'll say it was my fault. They won't want to pay for repairs.Had the same problem with a Motorola. They refused to repair it under warranty after it blew up!!..My Desire was OK until I updated it.Now I can't do much with it.I did a "hard" reset.I can't access the Internet or any apps.

  • What web page are you using to reproduce it?

Does anyone has a tip on how to reproduce it? I'm having the same problem but it happens kinda randomly. But looks like it has to do with overheating here too. I'm not using 3g normally, so I don't think it's that.

  • My HTC Desire has the same problem. I've heard that it is hardware problem. I don't know what I should do to with the phone now. Some have motherboard replaced but still the same. May be I should have the icepack with me any time ! ha ha ha

  • thanks, this helps me, before i go to get my phone repaired and stuff.

    Good idea for the icepack!

  • I have this same error. I read online that the motherboard needs to be replaced. I took it to Meteor (the mobile company where I adquired it) to get it fixed and have just received it one week later with a note that says that there is moisture in the charger socket of my phone (what the f****???) and hence the warranty is void... They just made up the moisture thing so they don't have to pay for the repair, because there is no sign of moisture whatsoever I can find in my phone's charger socket.

  • Had the same problem. Sent it for service, took exactly 2 weeks until I had it in my hand again. New Motherboard, new Device Serial, no reboots, running Leedroid 2.2f.

  • My phone works fine now. Havent had a crash for a week almost. I bought a extra battey from amazon that looks exactly like the original, but u never know, might be a fake. Phone cant even start with that one. Works fine with normal battery now, no problems. I did to a backup of contacts and total system reset and using the original battery only, and 16 gig memory stays. Very stable now. No repairs... or anything, just what mentioned above. Hope it lasts, but so far so good :)

  • I think the problem is from the HTC Sense widget... I removed that Widget now it is alot faster...

  • Lol. never had this problem b4..

  • I have the same exact issue. It can happen anytime, but it tends to happen the most when I try charging my Desire. Using Google Directions (GPS) seems to trigger it a lot too, but using 3G doesn't seem as likely to cause the resetting.

I had the phone reboot in the middle of a college lecture, and it started vibratting and made a boot-up noise in the middle of class several times. I eventually had to rip the battery out.

  • This IS a hardware problem, no questions about it: HTC replaced my motherboard eventually.. never had a problem since then :)

  • @belladaz Did you work directly through HTC, or through your carrier? Is there anything I can say or do to cut through the bullshit stuff customer service tells you to do (reset, pull battery, etc.)?

  • my HTC keeps on freezing and when i text it stops me texting and then goes off by its self and starts typing a load of letters on its own & then when im on an app or using anything i keeps on going strange and on the homescreen when i try to slide right or left... can u help me please?

  • All you ppl having this problem, have u changed the memory in ur phone? like me to a larger size. I got it delivered with 4 GB, changed to 16 GB. I am looking into this right now if this might be the problem?

  • @chiman75 i'm using 16GB now and have been using HTC Desire for 5months now but I never have this problem..

  • maybe its software problem...try installing miui rom or cyanogenmod...i have desire and i never rebooted by itself neither on stock rom or custom roms

  • My phone is locked to T-mobile UK.

  • It's not unlocked. Btw, I just got the device back from repair and had the mother board substituted. Everything in order, so far.

  • Hi, is your desire unlocked or not unlocked?

  • when phone goes into rebooting loop, press the volume down button, and dont release it before u get into the bootloader. From there choose power down. this will help to reboot.

  • The Desire is fantastic phone.

However this rebooting issue is really letting the phone and HTC down. Personally, my Desire's reboots started getting worse over time: It boot loops. Sometimes I get 5 consecutive vibrations during the last boot sequence and it then stays in perma-HTC white screen (before the "quietly brilliant" one). Only way to get my phone back is to take the battery out and stick it in the fridge for 10 minutes.

    Shame.

  • What website is it that you are loading that is obviously causing the stress on the phone that causes it to overheat?

  • @aphexmandelbrot: that's Disney web site, watching some trailer videos..

  • Damn, have the probleem too. My phone is going back to htc tomorrow. I can't trigger it with video's of with something else. It just occurs randomly. I have notice that the phone is getting warm on the lower end right by the usb port.

But, as for know, the device is 30 degrees. I had the problem when I updated to Froyo, but I'm not sure if that would be the problem. Because, if it were a software bug, why is the phone getting warm?

I installed OS monitor, and the log is just fled with errors

  • testing to see if can post comment here.

I have a solution which i am not sure is the ultimate solution but works for me. Mine cannot at times even boot back into the Operating system if u dont do it in a specific way. The phone is also more stable i find it after updating to android 2.2 i think? Hope its not wishfull thinking. Someone did mention i think online that this shut down is due to the phone overheating and rebooting to protect the phones hardware from getting to hot.

  • THIS WORKED FOR ME!!

My behaved very much like this at times. Crashed doing anything really at times. I did this to fix it. Clean cache on all apps, uninstall all apps u dont really need. Reinstall then 1 by 1 to see if any particular one causes the issue. I suspect the updates to google maps can cause a few issues, might be a good idea to skip the google map updates maybe? Uninstall all apps u dont need, for testing purposes, try uninstall all really and install them back 1 at a time and test.

  • I have exactly the same problem on my HTC Desire with Android 2.2 when I playing flash video in internet browser, but if I playing the same flash video with YouTube flash player, the phone did not restart.

  • @QuantumTuckbox: glad to know this helped ;) If you just have 5 minutes, would you record and post your reboot experience with this faulty product ? HTC hasn't given ANY kind of public answer to this extremely severe defect. The more videos there are around, the more people are warned and better chances we have that HTC publicly recognizes this design error and takes some concrete actions, finally... I'm so pissed off...

    Cheers

  • This is happening to me I am on my THIRD replacement phone, the first one didn't work at all, the next two had this problem.

I paid a lot of money for this piece of s*** and this is what I get?

DO NOT BUY HTC PHONES! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

  • Sent mine in twice now, but I still have this issue. See video o3Lazy783rc on youtube. It's frustrating that HTC acts like they are not aware of this problem when clearly lots of devices are affected. To reproduce just switch off your WIFI, this is important, and surf to disney(dot)be/DisneyChannel/index(dot)jsp and wait 5-10 minutes to see if your Desire is affected.

  • hi belladaz, youre pointing people to wrong way,i have 2 htc desires, and non of them has defects like yours, they are on 2.1 eclair,so this could be update probelm, its not fair to say like you do that-many people and bla bla...this isnt argument.so try yourself different desire!!! :D

  • @zolines:well, just because you own two Desires working perfectly has no statistical mean for what this defect concerns. If you had spent only five minutes of your time just googling around you might have realized that: there are MANY people owning Desires with Eclair 2.1 with this very problem, as well as MANY OTHER people owning Desires with Froyo 2.2 without this problem. So, before posting such pointless and dumb comments, think and study some statistics and electronics engineering, moron.

  • @zolines owned

  • This happens every few minutes on my Desire - sent it back to o2, they said it had been repaired, now it's even worse, basically unusable! They're sending me a replacement... I'll be trading it in for something that WORKS!

  • My "Desire" is still resetting up to 10 times/day. On charging, browsing, navigating, playing. Any time. I don`t want to bring it to HTC service and wait for 5 weeks. I like my phone, but....i begining to search another device with Android.

    Sorry for my english.

  • I have this problem, Google navigation is a sure fire way of setting it off. Still waiting for a response from HTC.

  • @ Belladaz : Hi, i am planning to buy a HTC DesireIs this week but after seeing your video, i am having second thoughts....btw was the air conditioner in your room switched on when you shot this video????

  • @ Belladaz : Hi, i am planning to buy a HTC DesireIs this week but after seeing your video, i am having second thoughts....btw was the air conditioner in your room switched on when you shot this video????

  • @rahulworks : well, I was in the Dolomites when shooted this video: average temperature was 18° Celsius so need for air conditioning there ;)

I'd wait for some weeks until the situation gets clearer: it looks like HTC assistance is now replacing mobos as hell so to hide as much as possible the problem. Nevertheless, it cant be excluded it's a silicon aging issue: my and others' Desires kept working perfectly for some months before exhibiting the reboot issue.

I'd wait or buy something else.

  • @belladaz :Thanks for your quick reply.....i shortlisted HTC desire for my first smartphone after 2 weeks of continous research....its a good thing that i saw your video......anyways which android phone would you recomend??? i am once again where i started 2 weeks ago.....still undecided on the phone i shoud pick up.......the desire has everthing i need and after seeing this video it certainly has something i surely dont need

  • @rahulworks : well, I have to say I was in your very same situation when I bought the Desire. Now, after the extremely frustrating experience with the HTC Desire I would not reccomend any smartphone mounting a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC since there are people experiencing this kind of reboots with devices mounting that very same chipset. Better to be safe than sorry, so I think I am going for an iPhone4 or a Motorola Droid. Whatever phone which is not equipped with Qualcomm SoCs.

  • .... I tried the same website out with my HTC Desire (silver) and nothing happens, so im lucky

  • @AliXosram did you try with wifi or 3G network. In my case it only happens with a 3G connection.

  • I have a HTC desire and this never occured..

  • Same issue here, I sent it back 2 weeks ago. But they did not fix it. So I'm sending it back again today.

Also google nav with 3G makes it reboot after 10-15 minutes.

  • Mine was having the same problem, sent it back to be repaired. They said the warranty was void due to cosmetic damage aka everyday use (stupid pricks) However since it came back it wont work at all. Everytime it just boots to the HTC screen and is non-functional. I'm trying to update using recovery but no joy as I dont have a mirco sd adapter. Was hoping that updating to 2.2 would fix it but maybe not. Why the **** didnt I buy an iPhone :(:(:(:(:(

  • I have experienced the same problem but not just on 3g even on wifi. I'm not sure what HTC can fix if it is a hardware issue. The restarts are less when I removed the case. Probably the case prevents the heat to be dissipated out and restarting the device in an endless loop. Frustrated is an eup[hemism if I say for the feeling of buying HTC desire....

  • I had the same problem on my Desire, when I launched Google Navigation it would reboot in loops, maybe restarting over and over again, mine has gone back to HTC UK for repair, I hope they fix it.

Ciao!

  • it happened again..ermm..I was just reading reviews on the market place..

  • I have the same problem..I sent it back to my network provider they returned the phone saying it has passed all the tests and they cant reproduce the problem..When I called them back now they say its a cell site issue and its normal for smart phones to restart ..how annoying..I now updated to Android 2.2 and haven't reproduced the same problem yet.. Can you send me the URL that you have been using?

  • @dineshranganathan For sure. I can't insert links here but just google for "video corriere" and pick first result. I found the Disney TV site to be even more bandwidth and CPU hungry. That would reboot your Desire event earlier ;)

  • Thanks for this, i started with this fault 6-8 weeks into its use and i was dreading all the software resets i might have to do as i dont understand that kind of stuff very easily. Now at least i know i dont have to waste my time trying. Not that there seems an easy answer to it yet.

  • Updating stopped just one week, then restarted with very same firmware versions updates both for the kernel and the baseband.

Note that this hardware defect also affects several Elcair users. So, again, this is NOT A SOFTWARE ISSUE. It's a hardware defect that each and every HTC Desire owner should check. Please try navigating a heavy web site using 3G for at least 30 minutes such as the one I have published here. If you can stand it without any reboot, you're lucky: wish I'd walk your shoes.

  • so, it can't been fixed?

Мауbе, it's problem of 2.2., which does not working good, and maybe why updating stopped...
