  • I feel that Calvin and Hobbes already addressed this issue

  • Just get a Botox injection into your diaphragm, then you're permanently curred of hiccups.

There are a few side effects though.

  • why is there no comment for peanut butter? it works every time for me.

  • Cold pad on your throat fixes it fast and easy.

  • I always drink water while upside-down on the couch! Works every time

  • There's one thing I know it works with me. Drink 9 sips of water while holding your breath.

  • I always thought hiccups were caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain, and our body forces our diaphragm to spasm, as you said, thus creating a hiccup as a way to restore the amount of oxygen needed by the brain, this is why one gets hiccups after eating a lot of food or drinking a lot of water without a breath of air.....to resolve this I just take 3 to 4 long relaxed breathes immediatly after the first hiccup and they are gone in seconds....ta da!

  • @brodeurheaton that is actually what yawning is, lack of oxygen to the brain causes it to tell you to take a deep breath thus yawn. Hiccups have no medical explanation.

  • @MrSwiftness No explanation for why your diaphragm spasms I mean.

  • @MrSwiftness oh, well you see the confusion...still my hiccup trick works

  • to get rid of hiccups all you have to do is go outside with nothing but underwear and a rainbow afro wig then run in circles screaming random gibberish. then once you did that for about 2 minutes jump on some guy's car and act like a cow.

  • 2 cures for hiccups that ACTUALLY work:

    1) Speed sex

    2) Drink warm orange juice

  • i got the hiccups today in school so the teacher called me up there and told me to look her in the eye,and then she said "i dare you to hiccup" and i didnt hiccup again

  • i tried the cow one and it worked!!!!!!!!

  • When I was younger it was drinking water upside down though

  • A woman in a hippie shop told me to close my eyes and visualize white horses running in a field.. It works usually, the trick is to focus hard enough and relax, if you get through the next hiccup without hiccuping, they're generally gone

  • get someone to promise you £50.00 if you hiccup again! you would wanna hiccup but you can't

    allways work

  • Swallow them. Or more to the point, contract your throat muscles just as the hiccup arrives. They will be silent, and the "fluid hammer" effect will push back on the diaphragm muscle. By the third or fourth, they will stop.

  • drinking water, holding your breath or eating a tsp of sugar always works

  • Geeeezzz.. i love pickle juice! lol

  • Before my third hiccup i just drink water and it stops. but after the third it wont work.

  • I have the hiccups now while watching this... -_-

  • I usually just focus my breathing the same way they teach in martial arts.

  • One time I had hiccups and a violent cough together. It felt like my lungs were bleeding.

It was then that I learned how to stop hiccups at will. And ever since then, I've never hiccuped more than twice in a row.

  • Slowly drinking water while holding down my right earlobe works everytime for me.

  • A shot of Jack Daniels. Would it help? Well, it couldn't hurt.

  • well the cure that works for me, is using my neck muscles to open the throat tube widely, then you have 1 or 2 more hicups, and its done ( this is doing the same thing as sucking in when you want to burp, but just without sucking in)

  • 1. breath in

    2. without breathing out, take a sip of a drink or your choice

    3. witout swallowing or breathing out, put your fingers in your ears and bend over.

    4. remain in this postition until you need to take a breath.

    5. swallow while bent over

    6. breath

    7. take your fingers out of your ears

    8. stand up

    this always workss!

  • @AstralPenguin HOW DID YOU FIGURE THIS OUT!?

  • @DMP13ily Well a girl at my dance class gets really bad hiccups sometimes and our old dance teacher made her do this with her drink. i tried it when i first got hiccups and it worked.

  • lol if you fill your lungs with air and hold it, pushing down on the diaphragm, it stops having spasms. Works every time.

  • eat a spoonfull of peanut butter...it always work...trust me...always

  • I just hold my breath with as much air as i can for as long as I can.

  • Bite down as hard as you can on a light bulb, it's a cure for hiccups!

  • I just hold my breath and swallow saliva a few times, it makes it go away.

  • wait are you a doctor? because i do not know what you are tLKING ABOUT

    \

  • man you are the funniest guy i have ever seen... i have to repeat the video 5 times because every time i laugh !

  • i love pickle juice. :D

  • you hiccup because ur diaphragm isnt in sync with your breathing. i asked on of my sci teachers in school and he looked into it. he told me that if you start breathing normal and not think about it. and ive tried it and it actually does work. theres also one more way, believe you dont have them and you dont. its all on what you think. if you think that you have them, then you do, but if you think you dont then you usually dont get hiccups

  • I love hiccups! They annoy my teachers and make the kids laugh in class :D

  • i was drawing and when he had a "spasm" i scribbled on my page from laughing so hard.... no my picture is ruined BUT THT WAS HILARIOUS!!

  • If you're hiccup it means that somebody thinking about you. At least Russians thinks so. :) The cure in this case is to guess right who that was.

  • the way i do it is to just focus on not hiccupping long enough. you just need to not hiccup long enough for your diaphram to relax.drinking water and holding your breath disallows you from moving and therefore spazzing your diaphram. thinking about cows or getting scared focuses your attention elsewhere so that you don't let yourself hiccup.

  • The point is you drink the water and hiccup and spill it everywhere

  • MoooooooooEHMP

  • *2x slow, deep breaths*

*deep breath and hold for as long as possible*

    *2x more slow, deep breaths*

If you hiccup at any point, restart. Clears mine up only after 1-2 hiccups. :O

  • it's kinda hardcore-but for me it's gagging myself(-like finger down the throat gagging). I dislike hiccups enough that it is a sensible tradeoff. it kinda resets everything-like slapping your guts in the face and telling them to calm down.

  • Chug a beer... or four... you won't care much anymore.

  • Spoonful of sugar has never failed for me.

  • My dad has a cure for hiccups that ALWAYS works for me. Take the deepest breath you can, squeeze in a couple more extra bits of air till you can't any more, hold it for as long as you can, then slowly breathe out. Poof, it's magic.

  • Holading my breath for 30 seconds. GOD bless you!!!!!!!!!!

  • full spoonfull of peanut butter. It always works

  • The cow idea worked.

watch this video to get bovineified

    /watch?v=FavUpD_IjVY

  • 0:25

    SPAZM

  • Breathing through my mouth for like a few minutes works for me

  • MOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-OW- aww xD

  • take ten tiny sips of water in a row. repeat untill hiccups are gone. works EVERY TIME!!!!!

  • i can't stop hiccup'ing but than i have to have 21 golps of warter........

    than have a apple

  • i wonder if cough syrup would stop the hiccups. hiccups are kind of like a backwards cough.

  • When I always had the hiccup, someone tries to scare me... and it actually works !! For example, when someone scares you, ur hiccups go away... hope it helps !!

  • Right after my first hiccup, I try to burp. When I do burp, they're gone. It always works (for me atleast).

  • Hold your breathe for 9 seconds and then make yourself hiccup. Obviously, you can't really make yourself hiccup(at least not very well) but just taking in sudden intakes of air usually works. If it doesn't, stick a pen of pencil in your mouth, lean back and swallow about 1-5 times depending on when it stops.

  • There are 3 that work for me Hold my breath Take a spoonful of sugar and eat it Breath really fast if none of those work I just wait till my hiccups die. I get hiccups mostly from Eating too fast Drinking too fast After burping from eating greasy foods After getting active ect
  • HEY! Charles Osborne died the day after I was born......

  • Take a mouthful of water, lean over until you're upside down, and swallow. Funny... and weirdly... it seems to work.

  • what i do is, plug your ears and nose at the same time with your fingers, hold your breathe and swallow 3 times, it works every time for me. try it, ive told my friends and works for them :)

  • Violently breathe out... getting rid of all air in your lungs. Then count for 10 seconds. You can now breathe in again. If it didn't work... try for 20 seconds. Don't go past 20 seconds though. This almost ALWAYS works works for me.

  • My grandmother used to have me eat a teaspoon of sugar (real sugar, not anything artificial). It works every time for me. I used the same method on my kid when he'd get the hiccups, and it works for him too. Works for my wife too.

  • My mom taught me to take three slow, deep, even breaths. She actually says that it works because it helps the diaphragm relax.

  • holding your nose whilst drinking.

  • Eating Peanut butter! :D Always works!

  • My grandfather always said:

"Fill your mouth with water and sit on the stove. When it boils, your hiccups won't be a problem anymore." -Papa D.

  • I've you're well attuned with your body, you can suppress them by relaxing, focusing inwards and pushing down the rising feeling in your lower throat.

I don't know how to describe it since people are attuned with their bodies in different ways, but with rare exception, I've been able to stop hiccups for as long as I can remember just by focusing on not hiccupping.

  • Hold your breath for 15 minuttes xD

  • My dad always says to change your breathing by doing something like taking a nap or deep breaths.

  • Hiccuping is actually a sign that your body is lacking magnesium. My mom is a health nut and has this dissolvable magnesium powder that cures hiccups instantly. It's amazing.

  • Placebo ? Maybe. But I have tried this many times and it has always worked for me and all the people I have told to do it. Just hold your breath and gulp down some water .. Poof! Hiccups gone.

  • "I think hiccup cures were invented for the amusement of the patient's friends" Hobbes from Calvin and Hobbes

  • It is most definetly the placebo effect. I have tried many ways, only a few work for me. One time i just concentrated on something hard, then i focused on my hiccups, now i take a huge breath and hold it as long as i can.

  • Mooooooo"hyuc"oooo

  • drink pickle juice. It's the cure. for hiccups. and having friends.

  • i saw this work (couldve been coincidence) and i was amazed by it.

ask the person with hiccups: "when was the last time u saw a chicken?"

  • Why? Why did you not do a final frame of you quickly hiccuping? :L

  • He had one good year xD

  • medically tested cure for intractable hiccups. It's... kinda nasty.

    ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2299306

  • I just chug water and it pushes the hiccup back down or something and hey it works.

  • Put a pencil between your teeth, tilt your head upward, and swallow... IT WORKS I SWEAR! (tee hee you look ridiculous)

  • holding my breath always works

  • @mrcss I know!

  • @mrcss Simply holding your breath isn't a cure. You just turn blue. ( that whole entertaining to onlookers he was talking about!)

But, Taking a very deep breath, holding it for a short time and slowly releasing it WILL help alleviate the spasms in your diaphragm within 3 or 4 breaths.

  • @cwjarvis3 It works for me. I take a deep breath, allow the air to "back up" towards my throat (hard to explain), and hold for 20 seconds; then I release and repeat for 10 seconds. This works at least 90% of the time for me on the first attempt. A few times I have to do it twice.

  • do a handstand on a bed of nails while singing "oh Canada" in Cuba

    its a cure

    for hiccups

  • cow cure: watch the vid "cows and cows and cows"

  • Used it on toddlers, kids, myself, and Old Folks. Works within 3 hiccups every time! If real SUGAR not available, chew hard candy, or even chocolate, but SUGAR was the best and fastest. And gee, who could this hurt? (Except diabetics.)

  • TV special on Hiccups 20 yrs ago (with Hal Linden - who?). A simple, odd, but tasty & quick cure for hiccups is a TEASPOON OF SUGAR !! Doctors were finding that folks brought into hospital for extended hiccups who were put on IVs & liquid "food" - whatever, which had a form of sugar in it, cleared up nearly immediately. TV show went on to show that it had something to do w/low blood sugar causing this spasm of diaphragm. I've tried it multiple times on multiple folks, of multiple ages, WORKS !

  • I know one that works every single time...Just think about the hiccup and when its gonna happen next...works everytime

  • when i was little i had hiccups and i kept complainging and my mom got annoyed so she told me to drink some pickle juice she didn't realize it already existed as a "cure" so i did and it worked.

  • i kown a cure every vid you go, you saide whatyououghttokown RULEz that should cure your hiccups

  • I hold my breath when I'm about to hiccup. usually it only takes once or twice.

  • IT JUST YOU STOP BREATHING!!!!!!

It's so easy. I've cured all my hiccups just stop breathing. I do it many times consecutively until I am sure the hiccups were gone.

  • My great grandfather had hiccups for a week, they gave him all kinds of medicine and treatments, but nothing worked! Then they just ... went away ... ???

Oh and here is my crazy cure that has acctually worked for me a whole bunch of times:

Drink water while looking down (with your head not just eyes) and hold your nose with one finger in your ear.

  • I had the hiccups for 5 days straight

  • @Piepenguin6 GO TO THE DOCTOR MAN!!!

  • JUMP UP AND DOWN AND SING LOVE ME DO!!!!! WEEEE!!!!

haha then i'd be doing it for the love of The Beatles!!! hahahaha

    pickle juice

  • drink carbonated water upside down while holding your breath. works for me :)

  • it's spelt hiccough, you crazy yanks.

  • Different place, different terms.

  • i just drink water,a very little bit but continously

that way, after 5 seconds, if i stop, i feel a bump in my neck.. hiccups solved

for me it worked EVERY TIME

too bad most times i dont have water at my side

  • If someone you know is experiencing the hiccups, just look them strait in the eye and say "If you can hiccop one more time I'll give you $100 dollars!" works wonders, espically for greedy people lol

  • Lol. I guess the get so exited at the thought of winning money that they concentrate on the muscle controlling the hiccup and thus cannot get it to do it again.

  • mucinex is the cure!

hiccups are the body's natural way of shaking the stomach to make small bubbles merge together into a burpable size

in the presence of mucous, these small bubbles will not merge together so they remain trapped along the lining of the stomach

the most common cause of this stomach mucous is eating too much spicy foods too frequently

or you might have licked a foul taco

  • You get a spoon and a glass of water. Fill the glass with water and put the spoon in the glass upside down. (The wide part of the spoon sticking out of the cup) Get the spoon and put it on your temple, and just drink the cup of water.(Make sure the spoon is touching the water in the cup) You don't have to hold your breath or anything. Try it it's worked for everyone I've told to do it.

  • i heard hiccups were a mental thing. like your brain like.. forgets what it's doing and signals to do something get messed up and u hiccup.. i've actually tried to meditate and correct this, and sometimes it works. i've used this method and it's worked in under 60 seconds. . . when i think, i just think about breathing properly... sometimes while holding my breath.. it's seemed to work better than anything i've heard.

  • Personally, I really don't have a problem with them. What works for me is when I get them, I find that taking in a whole lot of air and holding my breath for just a little bit shy of as long as I can gets rid of it instantly. huh.

  • I always get the hiccups when I laugh too much/hard. And I do that all the time. Noooooooo~

Sometimes when I eat too fast too.

Strangly enough, my step-dad told me to have a spoon full of sugar. I did. It was nasty. But they were gone! (So nasty I'm never doing again though.)

I usually hold my breath. 'Course it's hard, because I usually want to keep laughing....

I like that idea--make them up. LOL. Fuuun~

  • On that note, I'M usually the one to get the hiccups, not my friends, so I'm going to be the entertainment.... *Sigh*...

  • i try to keep hiccups as long as u can, bug ppl, after a while it goes away. lol

  • That's the one that works for me. . . .holding my breath. :D))

  • .. how significant .. LOL

! swallow a spoonful of sugar (the white not brown type) all at once try not to chew too much (you don't even feel the sweetness) .. sometimes I have to take two before it works, drinking water or not breathing never helped ..

    :)

  • I get hiccups after laughing really hard. Either laughing for a long period, or a short burst of laughter so powerful my chest and cheeks hurt.

  • ihave chronic hiccups and nothing works for me. sometimes i get it 3 days at a time, my diaphram get so sore. i was really hoping u had a cure, but instead i get unlimited potential! Thanks!

  • expand youre chest as far as u can

u can still breathe if u like

its not holdin the breath that counts

    its expanding ur asofogis

also put a light pressure just above both eyes

    it alwyas workes 4 everyone

(bad spelling i kno sue me)

  • Drinking from the far side of a cup? Riiiight...

Seriously, I'm surprised holding your breath and drinking wasn't mentioned in this vid, their pretty universal as far as methods for getting rid of hiccups go. They're effective too.

Seriously, I'm surprised holding your breath and drinking wasn't mentioned in this vid, their pretty universal as far as methods for getting rid of hiccups go. They're effective too.

  • Holding my breathe for ten seconds works for me...Drinking a lot of water works the other half of the time.

  • drinkingg form the far side of a cup always works for me
