I have been listening to Rod since I was in my early 20's. Maggie Mae was the first great song. It is many years later and I still believe Rod still has it. Kudos to you Rod for staying in touch.
Well, you know what they say. Little kids will never get into the REAL oldies unless they can hear somebody THEY know do their OWN take on a song. Then they get in the car or somewhere and the song comes on the kids' new rock-n-roll radio and their mom or dad starts singing along----kids wanna know how they know the song---Mom or Dad drags out their old vinyl and plays the kid some REAL music---now the kid wants to know what OTHER ``old'' music is good--poof new classic oldies fan is born.
what the fuck is this? when and why did stewart record a shittier version of his original cover? i don't get it, the original with ronnie wood was fucking bad ass, this is some ear raping garbage.
@happymeal159 - I guess the answer as to "Why the second cover" lies with copyright and recording issues plus the need to produce a 'poppy' video to keep the record label happy....PS Ron Wood's guitar work on Faces and early Rod albums is amazing - no wonder Micky Jagger dangled a Rolling Stone medal in his face.
@blueballsredhair I saw Rod last night in Philly so I looked this up. I love this song. I couldn't agree with you more.. Who the hell is backing him on this song? Partridge Family!!! This is a washed out pop version. Ronnie Wood smokes on the orginal version. This verison sucks. But still love ya Rod...Great show last night.
@blueballsredhair I think was the version used at the end of the movie Inner space with Martin Short. While I agree re the music track, I reckon Rods vocal on this is a little better than his first attempt.

Not to offend anyone here but,this version is weak compared to the one off "Never a Dull Moment".That version had Ron Wood and The Faces and they just tore it up.This video lacks that same spirit.
Even if Rod will never be Sam, and no one, I mean NO ONE in the world will ever beat Sam, Rod's voice is not bad, and has his charm, a different charm, but I must say that the instrumentation of this version really sucks!! It's too bad that the instrumentation ruins the song that could be cool with a better instrumentation...
I hate to sound blasphemous,but I actually Like Rod's version better than Sam Cooke's. Not to take anything away from Sam(his version is great),but Rod's cover just has a "fun" air to it that sticks in your head. That,and the girl at 40 seconds is just too adorable ! ;) lol
I can't figure out what's better this song, or Forever Young or Young Turks. Please comment. I love all 3 of those songs and it's tough as hell for me to choose. UGH
IMHO YT is better lyrically and melodically, however the clip jives me (in a bad way). FY has an unfortunate video clip and is a rather drab song, IMHO. TTNA is the best rock out song of the three, especially with its re-release and the awesome and deservedly, ridiculing dancing provided by Martin Short. If I was deaf I would say TTNA. If I was blind I would say YT. If I suffered from both unfortunate afflictions I wouldn't mind FY.

imho, his first version of this was much stronger. I believe it was on Never A Dull Moment.

13 people prefer the original by Sam Cooke.
I can't say if I prefer one over the other.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of remakes, it causes people to forget who the original singer was.
However, as long as they don't completely butcher the original, I say let the music play on.

@noms3 Read my post. It says right there "original cover." I know it's a Sam Cooke song.

The 1972 version was nice but this 80s version is my favorite. He recorded it for the movie "Innerspace" and included it in his Storyteller album.

@blueballsredhair
I think it's kinda obvious why this guy's got "blue balls"....
Wagriffith 6 months ago
@blueballsredhair The reason is it was the THEME SONG for the movie InnerSpace with Martin Short,
and it was released to PROMOTE the MOVIE! I personally like both Rod's and the Faces versions equally. IMHO

MrStruth 1 year ago
@MrStruth I am inclined to agree. This is a more relaxing somewhat slow dance version, where as Sam Cooke's had some energy behind it.

This is miserable and poppy. Sam Cooke is turning in his grave. There is absolutely no soul or passion in this.

@Wagriffith HEATHEN! REPENT AT ONCE!
just kidding. both versions are good in their own ways but in my opinion, neither is outright better than the other.
Of course there are covers which blow the original out of the water (in my opinion)
All Along The Watchtower - The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Sorry Bob, but those guys took it to a whole new level.
Respect - Aretha Franklin. Dear Mr Otis Redding, Aretha just made that one beyond belief.
La Bamba - Ritchie Valens - "traditional song rockified"
