I spent 10 years as a DJ and every show I ever did Included at least one Dan Fogelberg song, his music is timely and wonderful and so very well written...thanks Dan for Providing a great soundtrack to a Medicore Life.
wow, I've been looking forever for this song after hearing it once on the radio....just remembered it while hearing some waiting music on the phone call to my credit card..lol I hummed part of the beginning on Soundhound and was able to find this finally!! Such a nice story for the holiday season
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL CHRISTMAS STORY, WAT A LOVELY SONG SADLY NOT PLAYED MUCH ON RADIO NOWADAYS. STILL A WELL WRITTEN XMAS CLASSIC . GOD BE GOOD TO UR SOUL DAN RIP .
Love this song and have since the 6th grade. I look forward to it this time of year especially.. I am now 40 years old. For all you jerks that take the time to leave a nasty comment... Piss Off and find something better to do! Why are you even on here leaving nasty messages any way? You should really take a second and listen to real music~
Dan was the first concert my wife (then Fiance`) got me tickets for. Mesa Amphithaetre in Mesa AZ. A small quaint outdoor venue of only 1500 seats. His bass player was sick that night and he had Timothy B Schmidt of The Eagles fill in for him. Dan joined Tim on "I can't tell you why". Truly chilling the way the harmonies blendid in way that words will never be enough to describe. Tim joined on many and they ended the night with this song. This was and will be my favorite concert ever!

It's too bad that someone here has no heart. To wish someone a painful death over a song is just plain stupid and shows a lack of maturity and youth. God knows we all were infallible when we were young, but no one wished death on anyone.....Too bad. Shows where we're headed as a country with our youth of today.....

I heard this song on the radio and I was amazed at how terrible it was. I can't believe this has 338k views, it fucking sucks. Good thing this guy's dead, he deserves it. I hope it was painful.

Driving home tonight, radio station 106.7 Lite FM played Dan Fogelberg " Same Auld Lang Syne", I noticed the clock was at 8:13 p.m., isn't that Dan's Birthday August 13? It's such a treasure they are playing Dan Fogelberg at this very moment, just like a magic, I can feel the holiday warmth around me with Dan singing that song, although it was not snowiing, we miss you Dan! I just wanted to share with you my encounter with Dan on the way home tonight! Holiday greeting to you my friends! Bill
A toast to innocence...the power of love during formative years stays strong. ...even with that old familiar pain. Tremendously well written song that evokes memories.
A song which always brings tears to my eyes because it relates a story which is similar to one which I experienced with a former love. It is beautiful and sad all at the same time!
What amazing talent! ... I am trying to promote another yet undiscovered artist with a really amazing voice. Please visit my channel, watch some videos and tell me what you think.
Phil....I look forward to this moment with you. I am married.....happily.....ask nothing of you, except to someday know how you are doing and touch base. I HOPE you see this. I loved you once, and it is a beautiful memory. I thank you for that. You taught me to not put up with less than I am worth. I found him. I hope you found yours. Please get in touch.
This is the sweetest song. Longing, wonder -but hey, c'est la vie! Lost loves are what makes life the beautiful trick that it is. I love how everything seemed to work out anyway in the song. We're just humans feeling emotions. I think its a gift to be capable of loving. Letting go is loving. Savoring those few, rare moments of coming full circle is kind of a little miracle, really. I think it's cool to just enjoy it at that. Ah! Another Old Lange Syne!
Dan ... can't believe u have been gone for almost 4 years now. Miss your gift, your songs and your beautiful, beautiful haunting voice. This song never fails to move me.
Miss U and wish I have had the opportunity to watch u in concert long before u were gone ...
I had the opportunity to see him in concert back in the 80's. We were the last stop on his tour. He sat on stage with his piano drinking a beer and having the time of his life performing for a crowd who enjoyed every minute.
heard this on the radio the other day i had never heard of dan but wow i have been missing out all these years the man is fantastic sorry he died young what a talent this song is a true masterpiece i think a lot of people will feel that same old pain he sings about at the end of the song
@deeway1963 this song gets to me, i have a heart, but i also have an opinion. people have different tastes and i'm sick of users on youtube putting others down for simply not liking a song
@iaskedforwater24 I can certainly respect what you are saying. I meant no disrespect whatsoever, to you or anyone. Much Peace to you iaskedforwater24.
Great song writers of Dan Fogelberg's caliber are far and few and in a rare class by themselves. They write the memorable songs that stand the test of time and are never forgotten by their fans. You may forgot sometimes who wrote a particular song but you never forget the words once it's played and then you say, "OMG, I haven't heard that in ages." Thank you so much for posting this song. I really enjoyed it!
I like everything from The Cure to Florence and the Machine to Blue October, but Dan Fogleberg will always hold a special place in my heart. I was working at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Pasadena in the early 1990s when Dan Fogleberg came to stay. I told his manager what a fan I was and got 3rd row center seats at the Greek--one of the most memorable nights of my life. He was a true songwriter and musician.
my dad told me about this song and i thought it was an amazing song about young lovee..cute and lovingg..i teared up the first time i was able 2 memorize the lyrics :)
I was in high school when I first heard this on on the bus, what an amazing song. It was this past weekend I ran into my high school love with his his family , we hadn't seen each other in over 10 years, I bumped up against his hip playfully and as he looked at me , his eyes got real big n he could not speak a word , except my name, eyes wide , studdering trying to introduce his family to me I had to finish his sentence, he couldn't remember their names, I thought of this song and walked away
@j9rwb67q He was in high school when the inspiration for this song happened. You put too much faith in teenagers if you think they really contemplate that kinda shit.
Dan Fogelberg was the poet laureate of my life. Though good times and bad, he has sung the theme songs that spoke to my heart. This particular song always brings me to tears as we all have a past love that can still pluck the strings of our heart at will. He is desperately missed in the world of music. There will never be another who can touch me as he did.
What a great songwriter he was! An old love and I were both big fans of him. She moved out of state for career move 25 yrars ago. Heard she has moved back now and is married. If we should meet, I am sure we both will have this song in back of our heads.
Seems like so many of us can relate to this song, single or taken, we can all share in the beautiful lyrics of the talented artists from our younger years.
Alone each holiday I can always relate to this song along with many others.
Love this song my father showed me this song when i was 3 now im almost 20 and i love it more than ever. and the 5 people who dislike it have no taste in music. my favorite style is 80s metal but i still can not hear this song enough!
This song always puts a lump in my pants. It's so beautiful...reminds me of my ole girlfriend. The one that gotta way. The one that said" I'll never leave". Then promptly left me for my ole (now) ex-friend Ray. That relationship...I was faithful to her in my careless way. I always missed her when she was far away. Evertime I thought I had it straight, I'd fall! It was never easy or never clear, who was to navigate, who was to stear and so we floundered drifting ever near the rocks. We hit'em!
No mater who you meet in life u will never forget your first love he is with me ever day in my heart, we meet now and again , we will always have a special thing between us this was our song i love u so much
Thanks for posting this beautiful classic. The sheet music for the piano part for Dan Fogelberg's "Same Old Lang Syne" can be found at manymidi.com/sheetmusic.htm - a note-for-note transcription.
This song reminds me of my first love im married now with my own family in the last few years he came back in to my life hadnt seen him in years i never stoped loven him its crazy what life deals you always love you
As I sat in my car on the way home from work, I looked over and a man was singing along with this song as it played on his radio. Tears were streaming down his face and for him, my heart broke because of his terrible sadness. A year later, it was I who sat in the car with tears streaming down when I heard of Dan's death, as this song was played. It was such a loss for us the day we lost Dan Fogelberg. To this day I still grieve.
Anybody who loves this classic should search for the version by "debipisces". She put together one of the most beautifully romantic Christmas videos on You tube. Not only is it a gorgeous song, but the video fits the meaning of the song with two lovers hugging and kissing under one of Mother Nature's greatest gifts, snowfall!
Jeez, I didn't even know he passed. I was lucky enough to see him perform about 8 years ago. What a talent, and he really rocked out at times live. RIP
Meeting someone from your past no matter how the relationship ended seeing someone from your past unexpectedly gives me, and most people, a much deeper impact then just a memory.
Takes me from the now and brings me back to past.....then carries me back to the present (all in an instant). Makes it easy to wonder about all the things I didn't do, but (maybe) should have...
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
I have to do this song for karaoke on New Year's when I get a chance. It is suitable and an homage to the late and great Dan Fogelberg. Such a sad song for anytime of year. Love lost can be painful...........
Yeah, he is the Man! Just like the others stated, he can grip you! He has Awesome tunes and me and my wife dated during his songs in the early 90's.. And have Sweet Memories of them All!! Roland and Diana Aranda in Midland, Tx, but at the time, in San Antonio, Tx..
first of all, im a metal head and i love dan fogelbergs stuff. i love this tune, he is an amazing writer. this song cripples me when i hear it. it sends something thru me like not many tunes can. i lose it when i hear this, especially at the holidays, seems like im always alone. the last line when he says the snow turns into rain just hits me. love his melodic voice. he is missed. his talent is rare. thank you dan....
yes....everything YOU just said. It's done this to me since I was in high school....about 15....and it still does. I prefer hard rock, classic rock, etc....but there is something about Fogelberg's stuff that kills me, esp. this song. You described it perfectly. Stops me in my tracks, & tears well up. And no I live where it does snow, and I hate the melt. It brings back a lot, and brings up a lot that's occurred since high school. He made beautiful music,& wrote beautifully too.
@dreamevil777 I'm not in any sense a metal head, but I completely agree with every word you said here! There are a few songs that one encounters in life where you feel the emotional content so intensely and severely that you somehow feel that this had to have happened to you too - in spite of much evidence to the contrary! Now that must be the ultimate accomplishment for a songwriter!
@dreamevil777 We are all alone. We are all always alone. The great irony on humanity is that we are united by our shared isolation. this song touches on that moment when we realize that we all share this solitude. Fogelberg was a master.
@dreamevil777 You are soooooo right. I just love to sit on the couch, eyes closed, imagining the story in my heart. Peaceful with some sadness, laughter, and love.
@dreamevil777 You have a way with words that I do not; can never find the "right" words to describe how Dan's music touches me. He is and will always be my favorite musician, from his voice, to his lyrics, to playing all instruments in so many of his creations. Your words described Dan perfectly.
@dreamevil777 same here. I'm the biggest metal head in the world and I heard this one christmas and was captivated by his voice and lyrics. Sad to now that his music is not more appreciated.
I did not know Dan sang this song. I hear it on the radio from time to time during the holidays but never knew he sang it. It is a touching song and reminds me of Boston in the winter.
I never realized this was a Christmas song. It always sounded like a love song, or just a song about an old love. I love this song.

Rest well Dan.

We hit'em!

Not only is it a gorgeous song, but the video fits the meaning of the song with two lovers hugging and kissing under one of Mother Nature's greatest gifts, snowfall!

first of all, im a metal head and i love dan fogelbergs stuff. i love this tune, he is an amazing writer. this song cripples me when i hear it. it sends something thru me like not many tunes can. i lose it when i hear this, especially at the holidays, seems like im always alone. the last line when he says the snow turns into rain just hits me. love his melodic voice. he is missed. his talent is rare. thank you dan....

@dreamevil777
yes....everything YOU just said. He made beautiful music,& wrote beautifully too.
imaginationranch 1 year ago
@dreamevil777 I'm not in any sense a metal head, but I completely agree with every word you said here! There are a few songs that one encounters in life where you feel the emotional content so intensely and severely that you somehow feel that this had to have happened to you too - in spite of much evidence to the contrary! Now that must be the ultimate accomplishment for a songwriter!
1953jazzman 1 year ago
@dreamevil777 We are all alone. We are all always alone. The great irony on humanity is that we are united by our shared isolation. this song touches on that moment when we realize that we all share this solitude. Fogelberg was a master.

@dreamevil777 WOW !! I am so happy to know that I'm not the only metalhead that appreciates the true musicianship, regardless of genre...
metalvixen1 8 months ago
@dreamevil777 You have a way with words that I do not; can never find the "right" words to describe how Dan's music touches me. He is and will always be my favorite musician, from his voice, to his lyrics, to playing all instruments in so many of his creations. Your words described Dan perfectly.
SoothesMySoul 7 months ago
@dreamevil777 same here. I'm the biggest metal head in the world and I heard this one christmas and was captivated by his voice and lyrics. Sad to now that his music is not more appreciated.
