  • Rubbish, it was brilliant.

  • Cate did an amazing job, no doubt about it.

  • i think christian bale and ben whishaw do

  • strangely, cate blanchett resembles dylan the most

  • yea out off all the others she looks like him the most compaired to the others and acts the most like him she played a hot bob dylan he was kinda fit back then and she played him only fitter :)

  • Cates one of the best actressed today, I think she was the best out of all the Bob Dylans. Shes brilliant.

  • @skillz0729 ledger 2nd.

  • @skillz0729 Totally agree! She was THE BEST Dylan and got closest to portraying Bob Dylan's enigmatic persona that seems both allures you and drives you away at the same time. Just when you think you might understand him he moves into a different thing. Cate was really good.

  • "appropriate body parts"

    WTF????!

  • She put a sock in her panties to walk like a man. heheh

  • I think he's talking about the physical side of it, Dylan was skinny and scrawny in those years and Blanchett didn't have to do a lot to look skinny and scrawny.

  • I didn't mean that in an offensive way to Blanchett of course, a fabulous actress!

  • que? y es que todos hablan ingles..!

  • A trapeze artist should play Zimmerman

  • Loved Cate as Jude in I'm Not There. That was an absolute masterstroke for a couple of reasons. First of all, the curiosity factor. Cate's playing Bob Dylan? What? I've gotta see that! And then you do go and see it, and it's brilliant. Well done, Todd. For me, this was THE MOVIE OF 2007. Thanks! :)

  • She was incredible in this. Completely immersed in the character and weirdly the only actor playing Dylan who looks just like him (maybe even too much like him.)

  • i know! I noticed that before the film was released, from the promotional stills. the it's odd. with the uncanny resemblance & spot-on mannerisms & even the perfect tone to her voice, she WAS dylan.

  • I'll be honest, and say having scene footage of Dylan in '66(around the time of the BLONDE ON BLONDE album) in the Scorcese documentary, he did look bizarre.

  • a female should play bob, a homosexual should play bob, and so should a light bulb manufacturer

  • Wait does that mean Cate is gona make out with Michelle?

  • I don't understand why refering to female performers as "actors" is considered more feminist/feminist friendly than the term "actress." The masculine form of the word is superior to the feminine form? This is LESS sexist? It is kind of like "man" being used generically to refer to all human beings regardless of gender -- which upsets many of the same feminists who refer to women as "actors." I don't get it.

  • who cares either way.

  • I would think feminists would, or should. If you make a fuss about language influencing people's perceptions and attitudes, I think it is definitely relevant. Not your concerns, apparently.

  • actor, actress, waiter, waitress, steward, stewardess, blah blah blah. just kidding. i love PC world. ughh. say what you mean and mean what you say.

  • I don't think it's that big a deal. It seems as relevant to sensible language as sexism. The question is simply why we would want to specify gender for occupations, if it really is irrelevant.

But nice comment, anyway - for a girl. You're a fine commentress. (Of course, we could never compare you to the full range of commenters. You just aren't a strong enough writeress to play with the big boys ;-)

  • Why are you making the assumption that I am a writeress?

  • Just to make a point. :-)

  • Asy4, it's obvious: EarlSandwich only likes "strong" commenters. Great! Let him find the "big boy" he's looking for!

  • Because it takes gender into consideration. Think about it. Most people would say an "actress" is a "female actor". However, no one would say an "actor" is a "male actress". Why? Because the word actor does not have anything to do with gender. The word actress came later in order to imply that a woman could not be an actor, she could only be an actress, which wasn't the same thing. It's like when people say, "female doctor". It's insulting.

  • well if my highschool drama teacher could be considered an expert...(ha)... he said that in theatre there are only "actors" and the term actresses was made up when they began glamourizing hollywood...

but that might not be true.

  • Cate Blanchett is AMAZING as Bob Dylan!! She'll finally get another well deserved Oscar!

  • Don`t hedge your bets so quickly, she may get an oscar, but not for this. Shes got that second part Queeny Liz thing coming out, and thats Oscar fodder. x

  • Articulate stuff. Glad Bob gave you the go ahead TH.

  • Go Cate!!! Best Supporting Actress once again!!!!
