  • I'm close to 68 now but wow, this is timeless. I have the 12inch which I believe I bought in Heaven in the mid 80's. Along with Patrick Cowley, Sylvester, etc. etc. the 80's were undoubtedly the best time for disco. As others have said "if we could only go back in time"

  • kinda reminds me of lime and annie lennox mixed together.

  • Surely the most beautiful song ever recorded! Wow. Still as mystical and iconic today as it was when it was released. Too much. Brings tears to my eyes even now. Touching and sensitive as ever! Heaven Nightclub, the late 80's........those were the days.......you can never go back, but tracks like this enhance the memories and bring back the good days. YES! X

  • My memory of this song..... The Saint NYC, 1986....... darkness, love and the stars in the sky under the dome.

  • So many years ago...

I have the B-side of this 12 inch on a cassette tape from 1986 - As I recall it was the last song of the night at Heaven most Saturday evenings. Seems like another lifetime. Thanks for posting.

  • Exquisite.

  • One of the best songs ever. I was 20 in 1986 and had just come out and I remember dancing to this at The Pheonix, behind John Lewis on Oxford Street. I met a beautiful French guy there, Laurent, and we had a few months of great fun. He had the original French version, which is perhaps even better! With love to all Queens now in their 40s/50s who made the gay scene what it is today!

  • Still makes me cry all these years later, first heard it in Austins..Classic xx

  • i only discovered this heart-wrenching song when i recently bought the brilliant 2CD compilation 'disco discharge - gay disco & hi nrg' (get it! and all the other disco discharge released by harmless). something about the break and vibrato in her gilded rust voice and that pleading delivery really gets me... the desperately hopeful lyric suggests "un bel dì vedremo" from madama butterfly... but rose is a little more world weary than cio-cio san :-P

  • been looking for this song since i was 17/////thanks for posting it!!!

  • my eternal thanks to the barman in Austins in glasgow, who would play this every chance he got - i loved very note & beat of this outstanding song in the 80's, have 2 x 12" copies (original & passion remix) gathering dust as i have no turntable to play them on - thank god for you tube and thanks johnnyleith for posting.

if only i had a time machine and knew then what i know now !

  • @tommi200561 I also made a few trips from Dundee to Austins and remember this song vividly. I loved it then and still love it. The tinge of sadness that it evokes will never fade away. I so agree with your comment about the time machine and the things I would change if I knew then what I know now!

  • @tommi200561

    Sometimes you can't go back.

  • This is my favorite eva song - eva eva eva - I just loooovvveee it so much

  • finally found the record i wanted. thanks for uploading

  • I totally agree with iXNineR - this is a truly special track for me - that sudden smile across the dance floor at "The Flowerpot" (yes I know, not the most attractive name for a club, but it was in a pub called The Flowerpot) in Tottenham, North London and the beckoning outstretched arm to dance with a stranger that became a stranger no more! Happy happy times

  • This must be the best ever disco record made. I have never tired of it however many times I hear it. Lovely track

  • Amazing how music has the power to take you right back to the way you were feeling back then. This was always played at the height of my clubbing days in London gay clubs, at a time when I thought I'd never grow up or grow old, and the beat of my heart was measured in the sudden smile of a stranger across a dancefloor. It has made me cry, but in a good way.

  • @iXNineR your words are exactly how i feel x

  • I remember putting on the Shades and everyone taking this almost robotic stance to their steps..,then you realize this is the beginning to the "Whirling Gay Dervishes" ~with Fans!! In LA I use to dance to this with "dancers" Great Fun!1

So Romantic..,This was the time to "find~him".., and or do the "crotch ~dance" with the guy you found!!

  • One of the best voices on earth...

  • FAB TUNE! Remember the fan dancers would always give a fab floor show too this tune! love it!!

  • Doe.....you was in AMERICA....wish i was with you.Love you always.xxxx

  • One of my favorite songs ever. It's not often a disco song brings shivers down my spine.

  • This has to be one of the best disco songs ever. I remember it from my clubbing days, and the more I heard it the more I liked it.

This song and the duo named Lime made some of the greatest dance music ever

  • What a wonderful sound...I´ll never forget 1988 on Teneriffe, 3 weeks of sun and sex and every night on the dance floor with that song.

  • One of the greatest tracks ever made IMHO!!

Her vocals, the atmosphere, the tinkly piano, the synths.

    Absolute heaven. A total masterpiece!!

  • Comment removed

  • still sounds fantastic !!!!

  • @naplesjoe47...: thank you 4 ur reply...,I am glad you asked about Trippin 5... The organizer sent an email to all members w./ news that there won't be a Trippin during summer.... but for sure there will be one in early Fall! Jorge

  • OMG memories of bromptons in earl court late 80's

  • great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I used to mix this with the B side 'Quand tu par'. It worked perfectly but when I asked people on the dancefloor later if they'd noticed the French version - no one ever had. Maybe it worked too well or being 1986, maybe people were too out of it to notice the language. Both were great tracks to play towards the end of the night (or start of the day).

  • .Magnifique titre composé par Francis Cabrel. Un des meilleurs compositeurs Français. REVIENS ROSE, reviens Rose....

  • @RAPOUNET

Francis CABREL a écrit le texte mais c'est Jean-Pierre GOUSSAUD, le compagnon de Rose, qui a composé la musique.

  • this is sped up it is 112 bpm it is late nite 80s what was then called sleeze.

  • fantastic tune :):)

  • OOPS! so it was.. still a long time ago tho ; )

  • its actually 1986 and was a slow burner -believe it or not !!!!!

  • This is what Youtube should be about. A lot of people are sharing some great memories from UK to USA. I loved this in RSA !

I read so many hateful nasty comments on Youtube, its refreshing to read all your comments, everyone's having a blissfully nostalgic memory regarding this lovely song.

We need to ressurect this classic again.

    Nice comments, people ! xxx

  • Sunday morning, 5am. The last track played, or so it seems. Silence on the dancefloor. Then someone stamps his foot. Someone else joins him, and soon we are all stamping our feet, demanding one more before we stumble out into the rising sun. A click from the sound system, and silence falls. Then the first few beats, and we dance once more, eternally.

  • well said.................x............

  • Can totally relate to that. Very nicely put.

    xxx

  • Wow memories of saddle tramps in Carbis bay 1985.. fantastic!

  • Hi

I used to go to Saddle Tramps back in 84. Spent many summers there. Loved it. Think the DJ /owner was called Gary. Nice guy.

Sadly now the building had reverted back to a private house, up Laity Lane.

I dont suppose you have any photos of the place taken back then I can see?

    Anyway, take care

    Kim xx

  • this song is a blessing from the old gay disco days ....

  • This is a true classic. it brings back so many memories of Manchester in the 80s.

    Thanks

  • omg - has it been that long...this song stirs up so many memories of mornings at the saint....24 years...wow...im old!

  • Feel yourself lucky that you were even able to experience The Saint!.. There will never again be anyplace like it.

  • The best times! I'd give up a lot for one more night/day there! This is by for one of my favorite songs from those amazing days at 2nd & 6th. :)

  • This 12" is "GUARDED" in my record vault. Nothing like what we used to call "sleaze" music.

  • First time I have heard that expression in many years. Living and dancing in NYC we called it NY sleaze..the kind of stuff the dj played for his freinds at 5/6 in the morning. The sun was coming up, you had been dancing for hours and this would send you out to find a can and head home. Long live The Anvil and 12 West. DGC

  • wow! the Anvil. Thanks god those walls can't talk! What memories! :)

  • herrlich da kommen alte zeiten wieder hoch..thanx;)

  • always was good and always will be good, brings back so many memories of people and places that are gone now...tks for posting it.

  • oooooooooohhhh I love this song so much !!! The French version in 1985 was Quand tu pars

  • I couldn't agree more...the most beautiful tune ever recorded...she doesn't get enough credit for this soulful masterpiece.

  • I so agree.....this track is amazing........beautiful, thoughtful and breathtaking

  • The Saint NYC - Salvation - the original club in Miami - Horizons in Miami! Love the fact that I found this here. I have two 12" thanks to old friends who are dancin' in heaven! La Reina Rocks!

  • Je ne savais pas que Rose Laurens, avait fait une si belle chanson, je ne crois pas que beaucoups la connaissent en France.

    Tiene una voz maravillosa.

    Gracias Johnnyleith. Un placer.

  • Je suis d'accord, je viens de découvrir ce titre sublime !! Jamais entendu auparavant !!

  • The most beautiful tune ever recorded..............

  • wow i remember thinking, if we could just bottle this and sell it, or just bottle it and open it when you wanted to go to that special place, who would have, or, could have thought, those times would end?..and we would be here some 25 years later exchanging comments on u-tube about, a memory? who would have thought, that, that place on 2nd ave and 6th street would touch so many lives? amazing isnt it?

  • Amazing indeed. I ran into an old friend a while back. He was a friend of Robbie Leslie & Bruce. We talked for an hour about those days. Here I am talking to a total stranger who knows exactly where my head is! FANTASTIC!

  • i also remember thinking this was tina turner, when i first heared it

  • It always seemed to be played at a special time in the night. It also reminds me of one of my best friends. RIP Figgy! :) I miss him & the times we had there.

  • funny,i was returing from cape may nj yesterday with my partner and a friend of his, and my partner pulls out a "saint" cd from sept 17,1983, he popped it in, and the magic began, it took the 3 of us on a journey into that special place, a time when club music had melody, lyrics and grand productions, not to mention all the friends that are sadly not here anymore, we are the fortunate few to be able to reminisce..what i wouldnt give for one more nite back at 2nd avr and 6th street.....

  • Great story! 1983. What a great tear that was! Sadly most of what I have is on cassette. Except, of course, "Fire Island Classics". I love Micheal. :) Where did you dance? I was at 3:00 O'clock with a group of friends from Boston.

  • i ordered my cd from robbie leslie, he had transferred most of what he has onto disc, its an 8 disc collection, from opening to closing on 9-17-83, its awsome, i used to always dance next to the dj, i would tap on the glass partition and ask him the name of what ever song was playing, and he would hold up the album cover, and the next day, i would run out and buy what ever he held up!!

  • Thanks for the tip. I'll look for it. That was his era. I owe that man a lot. It's sad that those times are gone. No matter how hard people try, there is just no way to recapture that magic.

  • i agree with "recapture" comment, i met this guy once, and was explaining the club, the music, and the "magic" that was felt, he looked at me perplexed, and said, "oh really"..he was 28 i think...you just HAD to be there. if you werent, you missed it completely..period

  • Sadly that is true. I've tried to explain it to people who think I'm nuts, when I say it transcends verbal description.

  • i wish someone would do a documentry on it, it was such an important era in gay culture, that can never ever be dulpicated, im sooo glad i was part of it.

  • Me too. I feel sorry for those that missed it and when I think of those that are no longer here, I remember the times that I told them, in the middle of a song, on the dance floor, that heaven would be just like this!!

  • It does..............as I said before.........the most beautiful tune ever recorded

  • know what you mean mate.......have written in my will....this to be the final tune at my funeral.make em all cry...lol

  • Great idea. I have several I'd like them to use.

  • Twat.looks like your brains are in your biceps..........wanker

  • I think you misunderstood my point. I was agreeing with you and certainly didn't mean anything negative regarding your will. If not, I have no idea what your attack on me was about.

  • Sincere apologies.I totally misunderstood your comment and, strangely, thought you were having a go at me, if you read your comment, maybe you can see where I am coming from ???, anyway, once again, apologies.Best Wishes....

  • I do see how my comment was worded, and how you might think that. It was NOT my intent at all. My apologies back to you! J

  • This takes me back to the best times I ever had. What I'd do for one more night under the dome at 2nd Ave & 6th St. Hold On to My Love! :)

  • i second that gymprov, my best memories of clubbing and high energy music was that very same place at 2nd ave and 6th street....

  • I have searched for this song for nearly 20 years.... where do I find it.. You Tube!!!!

  • poppers music!

  • Super wonderfull!

    Love it!

  • Her original version was in French and was called "Quand tu pars".

  • Yes that's the b-side on this disc! :)

  • genial!!, no la recordaba!

  • Nothing on earth beats this

  • American Love huh? reminds of Haste The Day xP
