  • sorry for sounding like an idiot

but can somebody please explain to me in detail why he decided to end his own life?

  • @Psycosis901 Ian was taking too many drugs to try stopping his epilepsy attacks during concerts and stuff. It didn't work out so well and his attacks were just getting worse everyday. Besides, Ian's marriage wasn't doing so well because of his affair with Annik, a belgian journalist. I think Ian couldn't handle the situation of living eternaly with a disease, pills and his fights with Deborah (his wife). Rest in peace, Ian Curtis. A mith. A genius. A man.

  • @Psycosis901 I guess nobody really knows the truth, I mean he had problems, but why exactly he decided to kill himself nobody will ever know

  • R.I.P. Ian Curtis. Be at peace.

  • it's a stone

there's no spirituality in a rock

it was replaced from the factory that puts out stones by the hundreds

you're all placing something onto a rock that doesn't exist and then using it to pass judgement to show what a decent human being you are

i submit that it's a substitute for real actions in real life

  • @consrignornt it might just be a "stone" but its has sentimental value. im sure you have some treasured object that was probably mass produced.

  • im on my way to steal that little stone......

  • where is his resting place?

  • @therealrockondon Macclesfield Crematorium.

  • Think it says something about our society that I wasn't even surprised that someone sank as low as to steal his stone. What a pathetic waste of space.

The replacement stone looks so tacky, though I guess by now there's no hope of finding the original. =/

  • @findlaymcarthur : Not funny.

  • @findlaymcarthur I seriously hope your joking pal!

  • @findlaymcarthur I seriously hope your joking pal! I can't understand someone doing that. I'd go mental if anyone did that to any of my family who are deceased...

  • @celticghirlxxx

Of course he is. I thought the comment was funny; it's the "don't send me a picture of your tiny dick", "piece of shit" comments that were no fun at all.

  • @findlaymcarthur

You deserve to die, and when you do. I'm gonna steal your grave marker, piss on it, set it on fire, and then piss on the ashes. that is, if you can afford one.

    Piece of shit.

  • @YewLogs026 thanks a lot for thinking so kindly...wanna see a pic of the stone?

  • @findlaymcarthur

yeah actually. i do. and dont send me a picture of your tiny dick.

  • @findlaymcarthur

Now this was NOT funny. Taking it too far, buddy.

  • Comment removed

  • @findlaymcarthur If you really have done this, then you are scum. Not that you come across as believable exactly.

  • It was a short time he was here, but by no means a sad waste of life. Had he wanted to live a longer life, he would never have been the person he was and so he would never have written the melodys and lyrics he wrote with such intensity. Whoever nicked Ians memorial stone seriously needs to consider putting it back. That really is so low and totally disrespectful to his family, his fans and his memory - you total cunt /(s).

  • i have a great solution that has even benefits (1 dick less in the world) : put a new grave with a gps inside it....when someone steals it you then bury the asshole and recover the stone... :)

  • Cant believe someone actually stole a gravestone.

  • Hey..I heard that Ian's head stone was stolen and thought it was some sort of joke. Having read all these comments ..it's true. Can't believe who would actually steal from a cemetery let alone a head stone. PLEASE bring it back. Respect the family especially his only daughter. Who ever did this simply return it. Don't you feel some sort of shame!

    Ian Curtis...R.I.P.

  • Is it Southern cemetery or a graveyard in Macc?

  • im pretty sure the fucker who stole the memorial ll burn in hell and he knows it!

  • @morrisjuan

Oh yeah. He'll roast right next to Hitler. Idiot.

  • i like the music of the video

  • who ever the petty theif of IANS STONE OF REST,,, hope your eyes see more than ians hopes and fears,,, and his real sadness.. you are a true new order fan and a flow of slime running down your mothers rest side,,, restroom,, leggs.......

  • i often dream about how music would be today if we still had ian with us :(

  • @0mgwtfbbq21 a whole lot better anyway, I can't wait for my next gig I'm doing transmission, just hope I do it justice lol I'm not Ian Curtis that's for sure.

  • easter egg!!!!!!!!!! ian for ever.......ian eternament........ian permanent!! ian fucking genius!

  • if you stole this and you are watching this then give it back to the police. leave it somewhere safe and just make that phonecall

  • so very sad that anyone would take away something so sacred to Ian's beloved family, and his fans alike! but I believe that these people will get there payback!

God Bless Ian, I know youre still makin music in a wonderfull place!!!

    chestyx

  • @marymungoandmidge ..Totally agree..God Bless Ian.

  • extended version of in a lonely place by joy division type' joy division in a lonely place extended version, into you tube

  • Hey, guys, I just uploaded Ian Curtis Tribute Video on my channel. It`s just final part of the movie called Control. I thought it was a very touching scene So, I hope you`re gonna like it.

  • R.I.P. Ian. 30 years ago today. There are many who miss you and your talent. Thanks for the sounds.

  • "just for one moment,i heard somebody call, looked beyond the day in hand, there's nothing there at all" - memorial book

  • please can someone let me know where his stone is as i`d like to pay my respects

  • @seentax maccelsfield cementry

  • please put the memorial back.He deserves a lot better than that.He had such a short life but so important to so many of us.may his memory live on in his music and in our hearts.

  • it's weird but i feel a deep conection with him!!

  • I don't know if i'm the only one who feels it's sad that such an inspirational and amazing lyricist gets only a small rock in the ground?

    He deserves a bloody tomb.

  • PUT back the STONE !!

  • :'(

  • Hi. Wherein england is the place? Cheers from Norway.

  • macclesfield, in cheshire.

  • The person who stole the memorial is a sad sick little person

  • @bassman0708 and obviously an ill cunt

  • Such a waste of life - he never got top see the 80's, the 90's ..........

  • @250Trojan Me made the music of the 80's. Its gonna sound very strange, but if not for his death, alot of great bands wouldnt have found out about Joy Division and would never have formed.

  • Macclesfield. Often gloomy.

  • Sad to think thats all there is..or was till some tosser stole it

  • The sad thing is that the person who stole ians memorial stone will call themselves a joy division fan and will have it as some kind of macabre trophy.Well your not a fan you are just an insensitive selfish prick who has no thought for ians family what a miserable sad little specimen you must be...

  • you`re absolutely right here, sir!

  • @affectionatepunch somehow I don't think ian would care one way or the other.

  • @amdura.Well seeing how he isnt here anymore he wouldnt. But seeing how my comments where about his families feelings (Try reading my comments again if that isnt too difficult) Maybe his wife, daughter and the rest of his family would care...

  • @affectionatepunch They should give it back anonymously

  • @affectionatepunch totaly agree who in the right mind would do such a thing...... its sick....

  • @affectionatepunch I agree with you !00% If the person who took Ian Curtis's head stone is on Youtube I have a message for you: "Fuck off you sad Twat!"

Sorry for my language guys but this "Male Reproductive Organ" should be ashamed for desecrating a tomb. He and/or she will get what's coming to them.

Karma is a motha fucka! To the person who took Ian Curtis's head stone, "If you have 1 ounch of compassion in you, you should make this right and return the head stone.

  • Comment removed

  • who would steal this?

  • is this before they stoled it or is it the "new one"?

  • This is the original one, since the video was uploaded on september 2006 and the grave stone was stolen on march 2008. i reckon that makes sanse

  • People like Ian Curtis will never die.

  • a VERY modest monument

    FOR A TOP MUSICIAN!

    R.I.P IAN

  • Ian Curtis never die !!!

  • live forever, ian

  • To bad some jackass stoled it :(

  • por que corres como escocnido en el video? q pasa no les dejan filmar la tumba? o q?

es q no se de verdad si alguien sabe respondan

  • Put that brick back you prick!

  • Death no exist for Ian... He wiil ever live

  • Thanks for posting :(

  • Are Ian's ashes interred in the cemetery or were they scattered/buried somewhere else? (Sorry if it's an obvious answer, I've heard both stories from different sources so not sure which to believe)

  • Posso chiamarti amico, Ian?

  • Thank you so much for sharing this.

  • RIP. what a strange kind of grave..

  • He was cremated, not buried.

  • Que Ian Curtis descanse en paz. Que lástima.

  • Is there any clues whatsover on who took it?

    Fucking bastards.

  • just shows what wankers there is in the world that somebody nicked his gravestone

  • would be nice if the fans could pay to replace it..... mind you they must be the ones who nicked it !

    RIP

  • Unfortunately another person let down by the NHS

    RIP Ian

  • how does a stollen gravestone have anything to do with the nhs?

  • i live quite near here; the amount of people you see going towards the grave is really quite moving

  • I cannot believe that someone stole his gravestone!

He is an absolute legend and anyone who says otherwise blatently doesn't understand supreme songwriting. The lyrics may be depressing but they really give you something to think about.

  • you're sick. Ian desearves peace. this is stupid.

  • You fucking dickhead. dont come on here and say joy Division wernt that good. Fucking metallica liking shallow ignorant thick as fuck pig

  • why did you come here to watch the video if that's how you feel about joy division?

  • Bit of a contradiction of yourself then isn't it? Saying it's disrespectful using his grave stone as a 'tourist attraction'. Yet you watched this to see his gravestone.

  • truth hurts, eh??

  • is it ture that same grave stone was stolen?

  • everytime someone list his music he live ...

  • I just read that somebody stole this...can anyone confirm?

  • yeh, i actually just read that too. that is seriously so disrespectful i can't even comprehend why someone would steal someone's grave stone.

  • yep, that was quite a while ago now.

  • Has his grave stone been replaced? Hopefully with something a lot heavier!

  • Yeah RIP Ian, and the fucker who nicked his stone needs to go to hell! and whoever nicked it, he or she's gonna get it! great vid btw respect to ya mate ;-) Phil (joy Division fer eva)

  • i live in a village like 1/2 miles away from macclesfield, i been their and i went to his house on barton street where he did suicide. R.I.P

  • I heard they put a new gravestone there. That's good but i still think the person who stole the original is sick.

  • i'm french and one of my dream is to go in macclesfield by a cold day of winter to see the place where Ian is lying...

  • It's small because he was cremated. If you look at the other graves next to his, you can see he is along side others who were cremated.

  • Cheers for showing this mate :)

unfortunately i will never myself get to see this because of some sick cunts.

  • Of all the things, why would one steal a gravestone?! He/she must be insane and will pay for their crime. RIP Ian.

  • RIP IAN

  • Yeah, lets bury our heads in the sand and imagine nobody dies. Why is showing somebodys grave distasteful? You need to grow up and accept that death is a part of life.

  • I agree. It's a way for people to visit his grave and pay their respects without necessarily flying to Macclesfield.

  • EXACTLY!! I'd love to be able to go out and see Ian's grave for myself not as a "SICK AMUSEMENT" but as a fan who sadly never got to see him perform, so seeing his resting place would be some what of an honor lol and plus I got NO cash for a plane ticket out of NJ (and btw Syd Barret IS KING)

  • well he went to the grave site with a crappy camera and put on display on youtube. it just doesnt seem dignified for some reason, im not saying people dont die. I am just saying I do not favour the way this person is paying tribute to one of my favourite singer/song writers.

  • its not funny to say that you have his grave... thats some strange serious stuff.

but i agree with the fact that filming graves is freaking weird! did you see what """"Marukomu"""" said to me about saying this video was in bad taste? That guy is a dick.

  • Shut up you fucking drama queen. It's a piece of concrete with some letters on it....

  • How inhumane it was to steal Ian Curtis' memorial, I hope the insensitive A...holes are brought to justice, this must be distressing to the family of the deceased.

    R.I.P Ianxx

  • I agree Squab! Check out the weirdo on You Tube who has his face blanked and is singing at Ian's grave? My thoughts to Deborah and Natalie Curtis.

  • I already have seen it and I find him tasteless and insulting, hopefully one day his video will eventually be flagged and removed from YouTube, as this is distressing to Deborah and Natalie Curtis.

  • Whoever the inhumane jerks were that stole it should be brought to justice and pay dearly for their crime.

    R.I.P. Ian.

  • some c*** just stole it

  • Shafali1977,although i'm from Greece and in my country the cemetries are much different, let me disagree with you!I think it's small maybe because of financial reasons, but it is not loveless and not only because it has flowers!

  • why is his grave so small and loveless? it looks like a road kerb. My heart would not stop bleeding if i have to inhume someone in this way... kerbside.... like roadkilled animals moved aside. shame

  • Haha, don't take it so seriously. Ian was a great man, and as such his grave SHOULD be at the front for everyone to see first. I'm sure that's what the people were thinking when they put it there.

  • @874ckm4n its not at the FRONT its in a line

  • R.I.P Ian my hero!

  • rest in peace pooch

  • this man was a fucking genius. rest in peace ian.

  • He was cremated, no?

  • yeah he was.

  • R.I.P Ian Curtis...28 years later gone but not forgottenxx

  • I remember on the 25th anniversary anticipating the amount of music magazine features that would appear.. lots did, although some didn't put it on the cover. The fuckers.

  • Where is this?

  • Macclesfield, England

  • On the 18th may 2008 it will be 28years since the death of Ian Curtis

  • Such a humble marker for a great artist of words...rest peacefully Curtis.

  • both ian and i share bipolar, depression, and self image issues, and i am sure that i feel that every single note is engraved on my heart, i am in every song and every song is in me ian i cant wait to meet you rest in peace

  • i saw control tonight one of the best movies in a long time, i cant but feel sorry for him. he was/is amazing.

  • I am 48, bi-polar as Ian was, and own all Joy Division's, as well as New Order's legal out put. The story of Ian Curtis and Joy Division is certainly tragic. But if people want to glorify suicide and how it makes musicians legends. You children, should look into the story of the 70s Brit band Badfinger. TWO of their members hung themselves over broken dreams and being ripped off by their own manager. They put out some great music, had hit records, a legacy and left lovers and children behind.

  • WTF BTW TBF WOW - Hee hee! What a strane digital conversation

  • So because his wife made it from her perspective then i guess it's no good then uh, well i think that's a bunch of shit because your all probably on here because of that movie-i hardly grew up on The Joy Division and neither has anyone else under forty, so go on with your i'm to hip to admit it transparancies..

  • lol i hear u breathe liek a pig

  • The movie Control really does justice to Mr.Curtis and his bandmates legacies. I may actually go again if it's still playing @ my local theatre...

  • Comment removed

  • The book isn't about her,

the book is about the life of her and ian, and the struggles they faced.

    and his suicide.

if you haven't read it, read it. if you've already read it read it again.

everytime i read it im brought to tears even though i know what's going to be said.

  • I have read the book. I have also seen and read every single thing Joy Division and Ian Curtis that is available. So, I am pretty positive that I know a lot more about Ian Curtis than yourself. I would bet my life on it.

The book is not really about "Deborah and Ian and the struggles they faced" so, I think you should read it again.

The book is about Ian, and his struggles.

The movie is still very different than the book.

  • And yes, the book involves Deborah's character more than the movie, which is what I meant about the book being about her. I said it wrong.

  • im actually shocked that your trying to out do a 14 yr old. Ian is my hero and i wont sink to that level to try and prove such a stupid point. its childish, and i'd like to be mature about the matter because he seriously is an inspiration to me.

its abit rare to see this in someone so young. And btw, no one knows EVERYTHING about them available. thats just ridiculous. im finished here, and i dont care what you want to say back. R.I.P Ian. xo

  • I am not trying to "Out Do' you. It just bothered me that you responded with what I can only describe as "Not knowing too much".

Ian Curtis is your hero? And inspiration to you? Seriously, I hope you a referring to his amazing gift of writing. Cause otherwise, your parents need to seek counseling for you. At 14 years old, or realistically any age, Ian Curtis shouldn't be your hero.

  • Okay, he committed suicide, and yes, it's because of his amazing talents. and to say that at 14, or ANY age Ian shouldn't be my hero is disrespectful. i have my own personal reasons for him being an inspiration, and i think its rude your trying to interpret that im too young to understand. i know what im talking about, so stop trying to make me look like i don't know a thing.

  • I am not just speaking of the fact that he committed suicide. I am pretty confident I know quite a bit about Ian Curtis. And he was a genius with his writing, I admire him for that myself, but he is not exactly an idol for a teenage boy (I presume boy).

I am sure others who have children can agree, Ian Curtis is not exactly the guy you want them to look up to. Unless of course, it is completely and only because of his writing ability.

  • Im a girl.

and theres just something that just made me think, wow. and wether my parents like it or not, he is my hero.

for his writing ability and his personal life.

its like when he was younger, he idolised stars who died young.

maybe i idolise him for a similar reason. it might sound daft, but im serious.

  • Alright, didn't know you were a girl. That's probably even worse.

Sweetie, when your older (hopefully that comes and this isn't some early sign) your going to look back at this and think to yourself "What the Hell was I thinking?".

Please tell me why you would idolize someone who committed suicide young? Do you think it could just be pure morbid curiosity about suicide (I myself can relate)??? I hope so.

  • Okay, right. I'm old enough to know aout suicide. its occurred enough in my life.

As in my family, and myself. Hence why my nickname is 'stretch'.

and in all fairness, what threats am i causing by having a hero who commited suicide. im not harming you in any way. but what your saying to me is offensive. so i'd just like to end it here, i'll apologise if i have offended you in any way which i completely doubt. so sorry. but can you just leave me alone now?

  • I knew about suicide in the same ways at 14 too, but that still doesn't mean you know right.

You couldn't possibly, your only 14 years old. Your a sweet little baby. Sorry...that's the mom coming out. Anyhow.

You are kind of harming me a little...in a tiny way....not to mention every other mom who reads your comments.

You haven't offended me whatsoever. And I haven't at all meant to offend you. I thought we were just having a little debating conversation. You took it in the wrong context.

  • Yeah that may sound realy silly.

and i don't want to leave it with a sarcastic comment from someone i don't know at all. i dont think there's anything else to say now. but you can't always expect a 14 year old to doss around drunk or type like this "Br00talz." as my sister would say. im different. and i thought thats a good thing.

  • @jaidemm oh shut up you spotty face git!! get some drinkand drugs down you get some decent music and chicks and come back in 10 years. try magic mushroom party (music) by birdandthe on you tube

  • @birdandthe LMAO! I am not really sure what you are saying...but it is funny as hell. I like the "spotty face git" part the most. :) Good times. Take Care.

  • In response to this comment...Like I said, If you don't understand now, you will when your older.

It is not disrespectful at all. I am sure Ian Curtis himself would say your being a twat.

    It's called concern.

And "your own personal reasons". What would that be? Surely, you couldn't know something about the guy that I don't.

  • I am not interpreting that you are too young to understand...I know you are. And you don't know what your talking about - Cause your only 14. I have been 14 years old before.

  • You know what, just shut up. im sure Ian wouldn't mind having a young fan who isnt so fucking nosey as you.

And if you think that does sound weird, fair enough thats your opinion and thats why we're "arguing" or debating or whatever you want to call it. but now its basically me being told ian isnt an appropriate hero for a 14 year old girl. maybe to other people he isn't, but to me he is. and thats just the way i think about him. so get over that, please!. you dont know me enough to judge me.

  • Alright, once again...If you don't understand now...You will when your older.

We weren't exactly arguing, I would say more sending each other comments on YouTube (as a wide population does) discussing Ian Curtis, 'Touching froma Distance', Control, and my concern for your choice in idols.

I don't think Ian Curtis would think it's "Cool", but alright. And I couldn't really understand what your talking about with the "nosey' thing. That is sort of just silly.

  • please stop saying "If you don't understand now...You will when your older." because i do understand. please understand that i understand!

and you shouldnt be concerned. its not your problem.

  • But you don't. YOUR ONLY !$.

Nevermind, I'm wrong. I guess your the first 14 year old on the planet to understand. I didn't know.

I will leave it alone now as per your request. Take Care.

And by the way, I wanted to say because you had mentioned stuff about 'maturity'......... I have never experienced what I have with you on YouTube before. Do you know why? I'm guessing because so far, they have all been adults.

  • Okay, are you being sarcastic, because at the moment it seems like it :/

and the bit about maturity, you can be alot more mature at 14 if you wanted, basically i stopped being childish, there was no one i could be childish with. so reading and stuff sort of affected me.

  • I understand what you are saying and that you are more mature than other girls your age, but it still doesn't mean you know everything or that you even know about life yet.

I know I had been through A LOT! by the time I was fourteen. Hell, I had been through a lot by 9. But I know now, that even though I really thought I knew what I was talking about, I didn't know. I was a baby. I was only 14 years old.

  • Why DID THAT SEND TWICE???

  • oh and btw, you seem like a nice person.

but i hate it when im confronted about what i beleive in. xx

  • I understand. I'm the same way.

  • Okay well i'm sorry.

and thats the only reason i keep responding too. im sorta glad i got this all out though.

i've had things on my mind and this has been the only release as sad as it may seem. take care though. i bet people are abit confused when theyre reading our comments :/ xx
