the catback is branched such that flow favors the drivers' side. remember, this is NOT a 'true dual' exhaust by design. still a 3 inch turboback rig is plenty of flow for a td04 upgrade like this. good work James!

A friend has one of these and he had similar work done... complete tear down and rebuild + 600 hp motor. He said it cost 65. (That may include the price of the car, which at the time was 14.

It probably isn't a boost leak, if it were, he'd be having problems revving, although the left pipes are smoking a little more, I had the same problem.

I had a Stealth TT, and it was hard to tune.

It also depends on his BOV and turbo set up, because some have a funny whine on the let off. My greddys had a really high whine when they let off, and I was still pushing 18.2 strong each run.

the reason the left pipe is smoking more is because its not a "true" dual exhaust its got a mid split but the main exhaust is run to the left pipe the right pipe is the split

haha the "whistle noise" is the BOV (blow off valve). on turbo versions. now you know what it is, go research its the best way of finding out information.

@jgmtiger SLs are 3.0 Liter V6 DOHC engines, NA ( no turbo ), only the VR4 has twin turbo, stock. No other stock turbo configuration ( in america at least ).

Sorry to be an idiot but can anybody tell me what that sound is when the engine slows down? It sounds like a whistling noise or compressed air being let out. If I were to guess, I would say it has something to do with the turbo? I don't drive yet so I wouldn't know. =)

Though I enjoyed watching every episode and think you did a great job, I'm fairly disappointed if this is the last episode. Its called 3000gt project. It should include whats done to the exterior like paint, body kits, lights, etc. A look at the interior wouldn't be bad either. I understand this is jwsportscars but I'm sure it could be worked out that you guys get a final look at the car before its shipped back to the owner.

Hey, I don't know how to say this but to get an SL to a VR4 is difficult. I may be wrong though and it may be easy but this is what differences the VR4 has:

1. AWD

2. AWS-ALL WHEEL STEERING

3. ECS-ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED SUSPENSION

4. ACTIVE AERODYNAMICS-useless

5. Twin Turbos

AWD and AWS... if you want it, you have to take it from a VR4 and that will be hard to find. You could put in an ECS but it'll be in the $1000 range for a cheaper one. Turbos and can be done. Keep your old spoiler.

Just to let you know it is not good to rev the piss out of the motor when you just start it up for the very first time as you put it.

Esp if the motor was just rebuilt by the machine shop. Very stupid to do such things.

The rings have to seat in the cylinders properly. Should always properly break in a motor.

engine ran for several hours before filmimg this episode, and i wasn't reving the piss on it ,only hit 6k on tach in 1 rev up and 5500 on the rest.

@jwsportcars I've been reading quite a bit on engine break in and It's believed that for Piston rings to seat properly, you SHOULD beat on the motor a bit during the first 20 miles with a load on it.

@daniel32nicolosi It wasn't rebuilt fag, It was taken out and had a lot of cosmetic work done to it and new turbos bolted on and a host of other things that would be nigh-on impossible to do with the engine in the car. It's not like the put in new pistons and rods and crank, which would mean you could pull it, do it up with bolt ons, and throw it back on and rev it up, since it's the same motor it was when they pulled it (internally).
