Madonna was always more evolutionary, and the one who actually had super stardom that's yet to end.... but she was a Cyndi wanna be sure. And hey, I love both ladies. The only thing in common is they both came from the 80's... looks, music, attitude, all different and all very much their own.

@pghcraig They definately have paved the way for most of the female performers/singers/artists over the past 20years... especially the very current scene: Perry, GaGa, Kesha .... very Madonna/Cyndi hybrid. Cyndi however has dabbled with 60's motif since 1978 - look up stuff from her then band Blue Angel. Madonna has the commercial power, Cyndi has the artist power and as long as Madonna's career keeps going, so will Cyndi's. Madge is working on new material and so is Cyndi.

Lauper was one of the biggest stars of the 80's in the U.S. and alongside Jackson, Prince, Madonna and Springsteen are seen as personifying the music of that decade. But like Springsteen, and to a certain extent Prince, she didn't make it out of the 80's.

The reason WAS Madonna. There was a famous 80's " rivalry" between the two of them for young female fans. Cyndi's early 80's fun spunky persona couldn't compete with the sexuality and controversy of Madonna.
