  • And the cops are shooting at Woody and the lighter gun comes out! LMAO That was great! :)

  • Dick Cavett is the best talkshow host of all-time

  • I met Cavett two days ago. He's so witty and hilarious.

  • So.. Woody... you brought those..uhh.. shrooms right.. uh ?

  • play it again sam is amazing. one of my favourite films.

  • "That's good to know if you're making a filum."

  • Nice microphone @ 8:00 :)

  • Praise the Lord, a video whose top comments don't involve a lame put down of people who pressed dislike. e.g. "Four people don't like semis!" There's new hope for civilisation...

  • I had to make sure that woody allen at least wrote the screenplay of Play it Again Sam, cuz it's my fav woody flick. He did.

Don't say it's just an acting job. The material came from woody's wonderful brain. Only woody could be so honest about all the things so many of us only think about. Cuz when it comes down it we are all just a bunch of animalistic perverts trying to be "normal".

  • they had dick, now we have letterman. what the fuck

  • @cspj12 so you're saying now we don't have dick

  • I avoid all comedies that would influence me...

  • What ever happened to real talent in television like Dick Cavett?

  • @strangersound Cavett was ahead of his time. He still is. TV execs were unnerved by his near-silent audience. Probably the same thing that attracted his guests. Cheers.

  • What pop art is to serious painting is what Woody Allen is to films.

  • At precisely 2:57, when we see Woody with that thinking face, the first spark of what is going to be Annie Hall has just appeared in his mind.

  • @garishyellowshirt No, Woody was asked about making a completely realistic film. But Annie Hall is full of surrealism and magical realism.

  • I want to shake every person in that audience - what are they, half asleep?

Woody Allen is just SO funny, I love him.

  • What's the movie they talk about by F. Truffaut??In french, please!

  • was he going out with Diane Keaton then?

  • what was the second film that he mentions? sounds like "Love In Tora," by Antonione- but none of that exists.

  • L'avventura

  • L Aventura

  • Great, hilarious, Woody Allen is a genius; but I missed what was metaphysical about it.

  • seventh seal is about death kinda

  • he's so cool

  • AH, boom in the shot around 7:50.

These are really cool interviews, thanks for uploading.

  • Interesting to see what he was . . . before he became something else. Would've been hard to predict the change . . .

  • Ha ha. Dick and Woody. Ha ha. Get it?

  • Dick and Woody get a metaphysical semi

  • @Useless2112 No.

  • @AStopMotionChannel Shut my tits.

  • I thought it was Old Town Pasadena

  • Maybe I'm missing something, but there wasn't anything distinctly metaphysical in this conversation.

  • yeah same here but the metaphysician attempts to clarify the notions by which people understand the world, including existence, objecthood, property, space, time, causality, and possibility. What do you think?

  • Comment removed

  • Dick Cavett is awesome.

  • I get the feeling he's tring not to be arrogant and be a little modest, but if any filmmaker has got the right to be arrogant it's him.

  • It's impossible to get a show like this on TV now. Producers will simply take a look at the ratings, and see that only college grads get this show, and that's 28% of the population. All shows must now appeal to the broadest possible base, with the attendant inevitable "dumbing down" that occurs when only "hits" stay on the air for more than 6 weeks.

  • Does that include "college grads" who can't find the US on a map of the world and can't name the three branches of government and can't compose a readable paragraph? You confuse college graduation with the ability to think or appreciate anything refined, it seems to me.

  • Good point Red. But seriously, are there a lot of college grads who can't find the US on a world map?

  • I loved Play It Again Sam. Good time period for Woody.

  • "I've written a skript that can only be described as Rebelation..."

"What would be another word for it?"

    "Ah..Trushy..." lololololol!

  • Uh, that's "Rabelation" as in Rabelais...and trashy. Yes, lol.

  • Uh, that's 'Rabelasian' as in Rabelais...

  • Yes, exactly. That too.

  • do You hav an idea, that Dickie's trying to reach the level of Woody, but he can't? Poor, buy woody rules

  • doea any one know what was the title of the third movie, which sounds like grandalusia or something like that? thanx

  • Grand Illusion, 1937 film by Jean Renoir.

  • I honestly didn't realise Americans ever had intelligent talk shows like we have in the UK (like Parkinson) - but at last I've found one! Very enjoyable.

  • hmmm, a musician can't help listening to new music probably... neat to try that isolation now.

  • I hear yah loud & clear.

  • This seems too good to have been on television, then again I am used to the typical sensational trash that has become commonplace on (or is it in?) today's pseudo-event obsessed media.

Youtube is a great place to rant.

  • Cavett prophetically asks him about more real, serious films for which Woody's answer yes a serious theme would allow him to make better films.

    Agreed: Annie Hall

In my top 5 film list for thirty years.

  • i understand what you´re sayin and i thought about it before. anyway, when ppl click this video they wanna get away from that stuff for a lil bit and laugh with woody´s wit. now i´m not finishing this vid cause on a rush and gotta check your vid!!! thanks anyway

  • brilliant man

  • I agreed with the fact that some of his pictures are good and some of them r not so good...I`ve never seen one that I consider a GREAT movie...his movies r good for sunday afternoon...

  • dick cavett looks like christian bale

  • more like Tucker Carlson.

  • thank you. that was inspiring.

  • He says "And there is one Andy Hardy film I like..." This is a joke.

  • Thanks! Now I can understand another joke!!!

  • My favourite comedian with my favourite interviewer. What could be better? Thanks!

  • Hi everyone. Please write the transcription for the interview! I don't understand some words...Thanks

  • learn english maybe?

  • Woody talks too fast for me.

For example, I don't understand his favourite films.

The seventh seal by Bergman, L'avventura by Antonioni...and nothing after! :-(

  • She's not his daughter. She's his ex-wife's adopted daughter. The only gross bit is that she's practically half his age.

  • Dick's cool. Woody is the brand of person who'd rate "math horse"

  • grow up and stop being a media regergitating simplton

  • the Dick Cavett show, probably early 70's

  • He married the child that his ex-wife Mia Farrow and her ex-husband André Previn had adopted earlier. Quite all right.

  • Great! When is this from?

  • Yeah, she wasn't forced to marry him and I am sure she is happier than you and your shoes. By the way, great user name: reboksnshit.
