@LBUK2010 No, they took a black and white satellite photograph (the only version available at the time) and colourised the river to blue. A more, shall we say, realistic version was used from 1993-2009. Now we once again have a weird sparkly blue river which, according to Google map imagery, is of course, absolutely the complete opposite to what it actually looks like.
