  • I feel like these guys are right up there with the Republicans in terms of Obama bashing. Seems like they have all but called him an uncle tom, sell out, oreo so and so. BTW, from what I have heard, the economy is getting better, so Obama cannot b doing that bad

  • @17GreenLantern The economy is getting better because of more stim money being dumped into it. NO JOBS WILL = another downturn. Gas is going up as well, that will slow the economy as well. Obama needs to limit imports now. Obama has sold out the worker.

  • I didn't even watch State of Misery speech-I'm not into self-abuse!What little I heard on news sounded weak, tired, trite..like he doesn't know what's going on...is he on crack? I know he's a drug addict:nicotine but really he looks spaced out like he really doesn't want to be there just going thru the notions...I wonder did he cave in to tax cuts for rich cause he couldn't get his 'fix' so he said what the hell! That's how he came across in his conf where he called progressive sanctimonious!

  • I'm not voting for Obama again! How tiring these 2years have been & frustrating going forward. The solutions are so simple! Republ like to say how Dems keep people esp minorities "down" so they vote Demo, well, this president does! 2 yrs flushed down the toilet only scraps for middle class! He's obviously not concerned of job creation else he'd mandated those companies bailed out to hire here! Then we learn of Geitner/GoldmanS..what is a middle class voter to think?

  • This was a great discussion of what is actually occurring. Yet, the right keeps claiming the POTUS is anti-business. That is total nonsense.

  • One thing I don't like is how quick people are to remind you that you should be happy to live in America and glad you don't live in a 3rd world country. It's almost like a thinly veiled threat. You don't look at someone who has pneumonia & say be glad it's not cancer. We need to fix the problems we do have here & set a good example for the governments of other countries who are even worse off than us.I think once we get better it will raise the bar & help others in indirect ways.

  • I'm officially boycotting the Fourth of July this year. We are no longer independent and we no longer are a country, we are a pool of workers who better get the memo that we are no longer needed now that the Elite have amassed all our wealth.

  • the closeness with BIG business and Wall Street is the real disappointment what I got with the President, . . . . sad.

  • Well Ed, everything is fine, well, for the people that count.

  • Didn't Thomas Jefferson say "The merchant has no nation"? Don't quote me, I'm not sure.

  • @trajan74 Adam Smith said- If two business men are standing on a corner talking, they are probably trying to find a way too steal from the public.

  • The corporation is the enemy of the people.

  • We need to dump Obama, sorry. He blew it when he went to Mexico and refused to talk about NAFTA.

  • @rickbar123

Yes, but make sure you don't join the Tea Party's "Obama isn't doing anything so let's vote for someone who will make it a million times worse" group mentality.

  • @ootdega Death to the Tea Party

  • This guy is somewhat conservative on this issue. Protect the in-group at the exclusion of all others by disabling compromising the market imperative. I agree on the latter, about disabling the functionalist market imperative, that is a liberal view. However, I do not agree with the former, because it is an inefficient nationalistic, hard utilitarianism applied through protectionism. But, it might offer some kind of solidarity.

  • If we had a more egalitarian omni-national market, then outsourcing wouldn't matter very much.

  • @AEVautomatic Nor could it be competitively desirable..

  • @YourBrainOnReligion Yes exactly and the market expansion has obvious advantages. Extreme advantages for all human life....

  • @YourBrainOnReligion insulation to prevent greater economic entropy might be needed in the short term but to think it is a valid solution to the actual issue is totally ignorant.

  • global egalitarianism solves this problem much better.

  • Why is there obesity epidemic? Not enough time for exercise, quality whole foods too expensive.Cheap foods convenient & accessible & addictive. Why's there so much antagonism between peoples? They're not thinking on principles they're thinking about survival, competing with each other & not wanting to end up worse off then they already are. Why are so many people so ignorant? Education is too expensive & geared toward careerism.

  • @catgumart Maybe its genetic, then once one reaches a certain w8 the body will demand additional food.

  • @AEVautomatic

There are genetic factors that predispose people to being able gain weight easier & different people have unique body types. Some people are thin/wiry (ectomorphic) others are bigger built with (endomorphic) & there are different degrees in between. We all have different physical constitutions/temperaments but anyone, even people who have a predisposition to be heavy will stay healthy & fit with good diet, regular exercise, enough rest if they have an environment to do that.

  • they want to colonize this country....that's their point.

  • What you get is a society of overworked, nose to the grindstone, intellectually, creatively, spiritually, under-rested, overstressed people--fighting, and competing and antagonizing one another for jobs where there is too much work, too little pay and tales up too much time-- I'd like to see a lot more fireman, public works, police officers, ambulence drivers, postal workers--working 15 hours a week--hire 2 or 3 times as many people give living wage, open up education=higher quality society!

  • taking away the subsidies for those corps that outsource needs to be issue #1 on the Ed Show.

  • @LouieArrighi Amen to that !...

  • One point I'd like to make is that we all talk about how we need jobs--but even if we have jobs--people working 40 plus hours a week--just to make ends meet--and the jobs are debasing, repetitive, and the workers are undereducated, competitive & antagonistic with one another as well as under the thumb of the coordinator class- I think what we need is 15 hour work weeks, accessible education-- so people can continue to grow intellectually as well as have time for home life,

  • @catgumart

Someone indicated to me that I was arrogant to say these low paying jobs that wage slavers, working class folk have are debasing & I don't think they understood what I meant.I believe in What Martin Luther King says when he says all work has dignity. It's not the work that's debasing-but how many hours worked & how much is being compensated in wage & the lack of other opportunities & well all the other negative things that go along with being stratified within those classes.
