There's old school anime then there's classic. With me, modern anime 1958-1980 is classic while 1980-2000 is old school while 2000-present is modern era.
This was adapted from a 1965-'66 Japanese series, "YUSEI SHONEN PAPI", 'coney island'. American-International decided they wanted to make money by syndicating an imported "Japanimated" series in the U.S. {i.e. "ASTRO BOY", "GIGANTOR", "8TH MAN", et. al.}, bought the American rights to this series, and recorded new English soundtracks with a new theme...
Has this been officially released on DVD yet??? If so, where can I obtain it??? I grew up watching this series!! I even made my own Prince Planet pendant out of an old Maxwellhouse top (the red one with the star on it).
This show was the balls! I could never remember the name of the cartoon or character. I had vague memories and never thought I'd fill the blanks in my memory. I was really young when this was on channel 38 or 56 in the Boston tv market. What a great find. I remembered he was from outer space and had a pendant that charged. My recall was that the pendant had an R not a P. I was wrong. I must;ve been 4 or 5 yrs old maybe younger.
Incredible how technology opened a window to yesterday, by giving me access to music, video, people and information I thought lost forever. Little did I know that what I thought would remain a memory, would be available for me to view and experience once again, and there after...
It is time for all man to be as one, and to share the world in peace...
i was so little when i watched this show that I couldn't remember the right name for it. The only way i could describe it to people was to tell them it was a little boy from another planet who used to where a pendant that he would grab and say something like "prince power" - (i was little, what did i know). For years no one i asked could remember it. I'm surprised to find so many here who do. I cried when they took this show off the air. I couldn't understand why they would do such a thing!
Pretty pathetic that they won't add in the missing eps or release the series on DVD. Gee anyone wonder why MGM has (and has had) SO much financial troubles?
No, I *know* they've been translated - I've seen them in other versions. But thanks for the other info - didn't know they had been re-mastered in Japan, at least that's *some* hope :)
You can buy all 52 episodes (in Japanese only, sorry!) from Japan. They re-released all 52 episodes on DVD back in 2005, I think. As for the English-language translations shown in the United States, I think they either simply didn't translate the "Missing 5" or so, or they weren't translated because they were perceived as being "too violent" for U.S. kids back in the 1960s. Bit of trivia: when they stopped showing P.P. on TV, films were donated to firehouses for firefighters to watch.
LOL This dialog is hokey.. i used to love this series 36 yrs ago...

Are we ever going to see a nice DVD release of this (they way AstroBoy was done)?
