he claims he smoked way to much pot while workign with The Dissociatives and it restricted his vocal chords. he's fought hard in the years since to regain his voice, something that 2 years of no smoking and vocal lessons are helping. their 2007 and 2008 shows have been steller and his voice is in top form. however, keep in mind he refuses to sing in the lower range he used to as he was mimicing Eddie Vedder on the older records and prefers to use his natural register now

prly has something to do with it being a really small room, him being really tired and the people right infront of him... it's hard to sing openly in a small confined space without being really self concious, especially if you have other factors to worry about, he may have been sick at the time or something
