  • Great review. Shame you didn't spin some of that vinyl to really test it. :-)

  • are those banana plugs the milty plugs ?

  • good one . i want to buy black one

  • Glad you like your choice of equipment and a good one too. I still have the Denon DM31 which I think is the model previous to yours with FM. I find Denon to be extremely unfatiguing on the ears with a lovely natural tone. I have read that some headphones work silently ( no humming ) and others are prone to producing hum. Have you changed your headphones recently. I use Grado 60`s which are totally silent with my Denon. Regards

  • Looks like something I would find in my grandmas coffin.

  • @Iamdustyyy odd thing to put in a coffin?

  • @mikesndbs haha, just slightly. My point was that it just looks kinda old. It's whatever.

  • @mikesndbs haha Oops. My bad, i just saw that it was uploaded 2 years ago.

  • do you think i'd be better of with this denon dm38 dab system or a av receiver ? ive only got two speakers and a subwoofer but the receiver would give me a chance to expand my system

  • @2009thread1 I really could not say, this system does all I need and well, apart from the headphone output which has an annoying buzz on it, but then I just use my iPod if I want to listen on headphones LOL

  • does anybody know how the 9.1's compare to the10.1's ? are they worth the extra £70, ive got the choice of the diamonds or the cambridge audio s30 ??

  • I'm searching for a decent hi-fi but can't decide which one... It's got to be from a decent manufacturer such as Denon, Teac, Marantz or NAD. I don't buy brands like Panasonic, Sony, Hitachi or LG etc. when it comes to audio.

My current hi-fi is a 10+ year old Denon component system with a pair of old KEF floor standing speakers... I'm looking to update and need something with USB ports, MP3 support and power :)

  • @PowerPie5000 HI, well I find this unit does all that, I use a iPod dock with it and it works fine, also have USB slot. But good speakers are vital as well as the best cable you can afford as well. Good luck in your quest

  • @mikesndbs At the moment i'm tepted to buy the Teac CRH500 with Mission MX1 speakers (all for £399 at Richer Sounds).... I would keep my KEF speakers but they're too big and getting old. As for speaker cable i've got plenty of quality QED stuff that should do the trick :)

  • you have a shit music taste

  • @TheKnobdayShow Thanks glad you liked it

  • @TheKnobdayShow You made a shit comment.

  • DENON rules!!!!

  • Hey mike Just finished my install, thanks for showing me how to tune the dab radio! really surprised with the Wharfdale! they pack a punch for the size, really glad I stumbled on your video helped me to make my decision, all the best Arran.

  • @D7eadnaught Thanks Arran, glad I helped :-) hope to see your system here then? by all means post a video response here :-)

  • You Sir are a very precise speaking cool guy! Dont loose it, Great britain needs more chaps like you! Thanks for the video it will help my install tenfold!

  • @D7eadnaught wow, thanks very much! just to say this set up is still sounding great today :-)

  • @mikesndbs Superb news Mike, just ordered the Dm38s and the diamond 10.1 in Rosewood which I am very excited about, studied your video and thanks for reminding me to buy 8 plugs.

    Regards Arran

  • @D7eadnaught Hey Arran thanks very much again! I am wondering if I should add a small sub to my set up they keep showing one in the sale. Good luck with yours :) Mike

  • perhaps do a video review on your thoughts of the subwoofer addition, it was something id considered when purchasing these speakers, as I am used to much bigger units from B&W and good old Jamo! which do pack a punch, however my bedroom size wont allow floor standers anymore, which led me to these Wharfdale I am confident they will handle my Dance/trance needs, don`t really have space for a sub! but if it sounds great ill make space :) was thinking of wall mounting the Wharfdale

  • @D7eadnaught Shesh! I just looked at the viewing figs for this video, 34,724 my god! almost scary. I am not sure yet about the sub, my music is very wide and I love big cathedral organ music, it would be nice to 'feel' the base. The 9.1s do a splendid job with this as it is. The down side is I am a semi detached house and don't want to 'P' the neighbours off, for your style of music I think the speakers you have on order will be prefect!

  • @mikesndbs Of those 34,724 I wonder how many units you helped to sell? that is scary, surely Denon/Wharfdale owe you a sub! Yeah never P neighbours off, there in too close proximity for upsetting.

I may do a video on the setup, also a sound comparison with the b&w 602 series 3 sat here that iv had for ten years.

  • 30,466 views! good lord never expected that amount of interest :-)

  • I have bought diamond 9.1 from superfi and the sw150 aswell. just like yours the tweeter on one of them had dust/dirt on it and the base ports were not flush. also the sub had a small gash on it and the power light was faulty. After some research ive found out superfi sell refurbished/repaired and off the shelf products saying they are brand new. Bastards. richer sounds, a very good hifi shop also confirmed my suspicions. so never buy from SUPERFi!!! i will only buy from richer sounds now.

  • Looks and sounds cool

  • Hi have QED silver anniversary cable - good stuff! I also have a Denon micro system (I have the ADV-M71). Shame Denon don't do a single unit with DAB and DVD. thinking if I am going to get the DAB unit, as I don't use the DVD facility now... my Denon is connected to a pair of Mission M74 floor standers.

  • Damn goood! Wisdom speakers!

  • sending only the spiderweb without the spider himself is unacceptable

  • @twoPEU I don't understand?

  • Comment removed

  • @twoPEU LOL I had forgotten all about that :-)

  • Hi got the Denon DM38. The quality is fantastic but there is a big problem. The volume control is terrible the volume is staggered for example when i select volume 6 its a bit to quiet for me and volume 7 is too loud. So you have preselected volume levels i would prefer a linear volume control.

  • @mesmerizeme Hi, I have not found that at all! I wonder if there is an issue with your one?

  • Thanks for a very positive review... I'm going to buy the m38dab model this lunchtime

  • Thanks

    Very helpful

  • I bought an BW subwoofer to go with the 9.1's even though the system never needed one. Just got one for personal musical choice i.e. reggae dub, and liquid drum and bass. Turned the Optimizer off..... man!!! the whole house shook with low detailed grunts. Thats even having the volume on setting 11, bass +2, and DBS off, very powerful rich sounds for such a compact size.

  • Surprised there is no CD display info on the 37 ie, artist and track etc.

  • @robslater90 sorry your comment vanished, to answer your question, I was listening to a recording that has a train going from left to right, I realised it was now going right to left! so I made a test mp3 with my PC and which put a tone left then right, when played on the Denon it was of course right then left

  • The Denon shown looks surprisingly similar (appearance, features, connections, specs, etc) to Yamaha's PianoCraft series. Is this just a coincidence or are the two made by the same 3rd party company, rebranded by both Denon and Yamaha?

By the way, inexpensive lampcord works just as well as expensive cable. At distances under 20-ft, the two are electrically (resistance, etc) indistinguishable.

  • @stewartx5 I think denon and marantz are the same company, not yamaha

  • Wow that looks like the perfect compact-sized rig. Very good choice on the Denon and that goes double for the Wharfedale's!

  • check mine out

  • oh yes very clasical

  • After much looking around, and coming across your channel, I've decided to purchase one of these beauts, I even went into superfi and they gave me a demonstration. I was shocked by the sound quality as the Denon was rigged up to a set of "Wharfedale Diamond 9.1s which I also bought. The sales chap never had it on full spec setting ie bass enhance etc......

  • @RenKinRaM Glad to help, make sure the channels are not crossed as they are on mine and that you can't hear a buzz when using headphones.

  • Thanks as I would be using headphones too.

  • Thanks for the information :)

  • Hey! Great video!

.....it is pretty deep. Does the 308.5 mm depth listed include the large speaker posts on the back of the D-M37 that protrude from the main unit?

any info would be a huge help!... thanks!

  • Thanks very much, I think it does, I'll try and remember to measure it later on :-)

  • @mikesndbs

Thank you! I'm working with a 355mm deep shelf I'm trying to make sure it will fit without hanging over the edge after all the connections are made.

    best wishes!

  • Looks like you will be OK then! Seems to be about 320mm with wires attached etc. Needs good air space around it of course

  • Perfect! Thanks again!

  • Just bought one of these for my girlfriend in silver with monitor audio br2s she says it sounds wonderful, i was even more surprised by the sound wasnt expecting such good quality from a sub £400 system, sounds nearly as good as my albeit 16 year old naim nac92/nap90 amps and the br2s nearly match my epos m12.2s at under half the price i kid you not!

  • rich and full sound , from such small speakers , very nice , very nice indeed

  • Yes indeed and if you are in the UK check the more info box there is a link to this system at a sale price! not sure how long it will be on offer. Not connected in anyway to the shop, just really happy with the system

  • Does the cable really have such a impact on sound quality?

  • Hi, yes indeed it does! a big impact.

  • Thanks for the video. Ive bought the Wharfedale Diamond 10.1, just waiting for them to arrive.

I might do a video as only one non helpful video exsists on youtube.

  • Hi and thanks, yes would be interesting to see your video! what cable are you using with the speakers? Of course the hard thing with a video is trying to 'show' the sound quality LOL

  • Using a cable that i used with last speakers.

Which was purchased in 1988 lol

    Might need new cables.

  • HI, well if its good quality stuff it should be OK, if not then its highly recommended to use the best you can afford!

  • this is the sort of thing my parents could do with, gourgous setup, cant see any speaker excursion, would you add a subwoofer in the future or is the bass good

  • Hi, I find the bass perfect, even at low levels.

  • Good review and great low-cost system! I want to buy those wharfedale speakers and now I am pretty sure about doing it!!

  • Hi thanks, I am still over the moon with it all and yes the speakers are perfect! also as they are front ported my neighbours report no base thump despite them being against the party wall!

  • great little system.

you definately have some quality in that .

  • Just auditioned some 9.1 and had to buy them. Compared them to Tannoy mercury and mordaunt avant and unknown b&w., They surprisd me with their controlled sound

Would of wanted the 10.1 if pockets were bigger. Good choice in speaker but the CD not so IMO

  • I hope you move your speakers soon. They might interfere with the TV speakers & vice versa. At any rate they will sound better on dedicated stands.

  • I think you may have just sold the 9.1's to me :) Nice setup, thanks for sharing the information.

    All the best :]

  • :-) I really do love them, such a smooth sound!

  • hi! very nice video, all important info, well done:)

I have the same sound system (denon is just black), and im very happy wiyh it ! I got connected my computer and ipod, and all works perfectly, the sound is rich, good and real!

  • Hi thanks, very kind of you :-)

Yes its a super system despite the crossed speaker terminals LOL I really feel the 9.1s make the system.

  • those crossed speaker terminals are on every model of denon? becouse mine seems to be ok.

  • LOL no, it would seem only mine has them! mind there is a special warehouse that was built when I was born! it has specialy buggered stock just for me no matter what I buy LOL

  • thanks a lot for your help and information ! take care :)

  • mini hifi vary true!!!!!

  • Yep nice and all five star reviews on these. When you get the upgrade bug the wharfedales will be nice on the end of a better amp and cd player

  • Thanks, it sounds wonderful just now.

But very disappointed about the crossed over speaker connections on the Denon! strikes me as sloppy and if that bit is sloppy what else is? :-(

  • Yes Ive never heard of that situation before and Denon have usually got a very good reputation. I hope you have had the dealer check it under warranty and played a left right speaker test. It should be ok otherwise. I have qed sa biwire and those wharfedales are superb value for money.

  • @mikesndbs how do you know if the speaker terminals are crossed? i just recently bought a denon dm37 (about a 3 weeks ago)

  • nice for the size sounds good too but no comparison to oldscool seprates from the 80's such as nad, pioneer etc. Speakers are nice though had few wharfdale in my time and they really do the trick. I did audition 1 of them denon's a while back for my dad though found it okay but soon as i turned on his old nad stuff you soon realise your going backwards with new technology

  • Hey everyone! I just discovered that the speaker terminals are wired up wrong in the unit! left has been swapped with right.

Not a big problem to sort out but I think its very slap dash of Denon!

  • Nice quality little setup, i bought the diamond 9.1 bookshelfs also but the anniversary model, im suprised for little money extra u didnt buy the 75th anniversary series too, as the grills are magnetic & made of real walnut wood veneer & wax oiled, rather than vinyl veneer on the standard 9.1s, the anniversary series have some nice added extras i bought mine from superfi also, but nice setup mate

  • Hi, yeah I actually meant to by the anniversary ones but somehow it must have been changed when I placed the order! I still love the sound quality from them, best I have ever heard. My grills do have a magnetic hold also! seems to be in the pins. Glad you liked the video

  • Nice little system,I love the wharfedale 9 series, how does the usb memory stick sound compared to cd.

  • Hi, yeah the USB stick sounds just great, depends of course on the compression used but all in all very good, = to CD

  • Dear Sir,

Great video. Very interesting. We know

Denon in Brazil but they are rare since

    they are expensive.

Love to watch all the details you shared

    with us.

We have digital tv in Brazil but we don´t

    have digital radio yet.

    Best regards,

    Mário.

  • Greetings Mario

Thank you for your kind comments.

  • I got your link off WHF forum,I have a new dacmagic with a usb port on the back but not sure the memory stick will work in it,might give one a try. thanks, enjoy your system

  • Excellent mate!

  • Aha! thanks mate :-)

  • terrific vid. i got a denon dra-f102 dab with qacoustic 1020i and it sounds fab. mite try upload a video myself just wish i got the diamond 9.1 speakers or epos
