@MrsilovejessieJ You can use a loose rope or/and holde the horses fetlock lightly. Before you try swing on without anything you should use a blanket girth.
Finally!! i watched about ten or more vids sayig "how to mount a horse baareback" and everyone fails :/ your the first one ive seen who can do it :) its great aint it, i love doing it :D
@Jubber08 auw i'm glad! also note my handposition, its just what worked for me, i moved my hands around a lot and if i remember correctly i put them as low as possible while still having plenty of mane, i'd have to look at vid again. i hope you get it!

@Jubber08 hey! just take a big springing step back with your right foot, push off and land on your left jumping off it and simulateously pull up with your arms. once you get it you'll be amazed, its super easy onceyou get the feeling down for it. i t hink a lot of it comes from just GOING for it with all your might, are jumping high enough, holding on tight, and have a horse that will not care even if you bang into them, you'll be able to do it and be safe. always wear a helmet and safe shoes!
LOL used to be able to do this with my girl- but I'm short & fat now my my horse is tall & fat, so probably gonna run into a few issues if I try it again now ;b
haha its not hard at all, I mean sure I'm tall but so is this mare. There's little tricks, like put your horse on the downhill side, etc. after awhile it won't matter where you are at! just don't think about it and go for it! Its tons of fun once you get it, it took me a few times but now I love it!
I am tall and was slightly uphill so that makes it a smidge easier. but I know a person about 5' tall that could swing up onto a 17hh horse when she was young. so it doesn't really matter
My horse canters as soon as i get on. I wouldnt like to try this without a bit xD. He is getting better though.

@chloecindy99 Use a rope. Simply tie or hold the rope round her neck not tight but enough to give you grip. You can also hold her

@Jubber08 oh also make sure you're standing back by their head, holding mane the whole time, right from the start. you really need to be far back

i really need to know how to do that bcause my horse is like really tall. he is 17 hands and i can never get on him.

height doesn't really matter once you have a technique down.
you rock back with your right foot, jump onto your left, push up with your right while using your arms. its easy once you get it!
it just works somehow :D good luck!
oh and it took me maybe 5-10 tries to be able to do it

grab its mane and swing up its really easy once you get it down and it works on ANY horse :D Hope i helped
