  • 3:35 This almost sounds like a Eno / Byrne song.

  • Goodamn the music in this game is so fkin epic..

  • nah i am looking for a 3d game not a arcade cartoon game if you know what i mean

  • one of my favorite games growing up only ever completed it once wouldnt ever bother trying to do it again because its fucking solid enjoyed this video but i have to give it to this guy he made this video in his sleep he was that good i always hated the spiderman boss always took me load of lives killing him and this guy does it in seconds flat lol

  • 2:52 flame fail

  • These levels felt so much longer when I played them!

  • It took me years to complete this game, you've just done it in under 20 minutes! Kudos.

  • The ending is such an accomplishment for this game. AND YOU CUT IT IN THE MIDDLE?! WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?!

  • I love this game one of the best on Sega Genesis.

  • this game is really short x.X

  • Amazing, U just kill the game easilly

  • man, Sonic 2, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Golden Axe - such an awesome childhood

  • @sowutifmahsnsux: I have Streets of Rage and Streets of Rage 2 for the Sega Genesis, I didn't know there was a Streets of Rage 3 after 1995 and by that time I was using the Panasonic R.E.A.L 3DO game console. I was basically thru with 2D games in 1995. I also have Golden Axe I'm not sure if there's ever been a Golden Axe 2. I was one of the first few people to ever play video games such as the Need for Speed, the original Resident Evil, Road Rash, Crash Bandicoot. All to the panasonic 3DO consol

  • @r25rjr They made a Golden Axe 2 and 3 for the Genesis. Now you can get all three and the Streets of Rage series on Sonics' Ultimate Genesis Collection for PS3 or 360.

  • @tbone11286 U get Shinobi They forgot this one and Shadow Dancer Damn RPG games I'm a hack n' slice guy I'll rate it a good collection for having Streets 3 but

  • Really, who puts crates on top of a subway train?

  • OMG you finally got the good ending! I never GOT THE GOOD ENDING X(

  • i remember playing this game when i was like 6, oh my god, the memories... this game is awesome.. didnt it come with sonic and some motorcycle game?

  • @bosnianvk12 yeah i remember it was called "6 Pak" right?

  • @bosnianvk12 sonic and super hang-on lol

  • wth spiderman lol

  • wow. I remember alot of these levels were a pain in the ass. Like this first one. But I loved this game because all the levels were fun. I loved fighting the guy who threw cars at you. I can't tell you how many times I died on these levels. Oh yeah and the spiderman looking guy, i almost forgot him. I spent hours on the last level with the doors. I could not figure it out. Nice to finally c the ending to one of my fav games. thank you

  • Suprisingly DC Comics didn't shove law suits up their asses for putting Spider Man and Bat Man in Revenge of Shinobi. This game is hard, balls to the wall but if I play it a little longer and not play like the Irategamer does then I could get better and maybe beat this game in my sleep too. =P This game is good ahead of its time. There different versions of this game. It's game worth of picking up and playing.

  • Great job man!! I thought everyone used the unlimited shukiens (sp?).

One time I got to the maze level, I was on a fuckin roll. My stupid baby sister made me turn the game off and go outside and play. Look at what good that did me?! :P

  • OMFG when i played this as a kid i never defeated the last boss so quick.. OMG... i got to see the happy ending... and isnt the ending music in killbill aswell...?

thanks man... i thought that the girl was always supposed to die at the end... which was a sad ending... but now i know how to kill him quicker... i never even thought of using that ninjitsu... i never actually used anything other than fushin,,,

  • Dude amazing performance, to finish so quickly.

Took me ages, and I didn't even finish the game. As well all know there were not saving capabilities of the megadrive.

    Good Stuff

  • I played this game in 1993 (when I was 14). Neo Zeed (last boss) is probably still the weirdest boss I've known in gaming history. Classic game :-)

  • THE MAZE WHYYYYY?? WORST LEVEL EVER!!! stroll of the shinobi enters the epic conclu-dead..never mind saved the girl..done..well now what bye good game dude

  • I played alot of games on my Sega Genesis back in '98 and '99. This was one of them, and I don't know how but I also beat it too. The others were Sonic and Streets of Rage. Not to mention Street Fighter 2. Good times.

  • That maze level was such a bitch I dont think i would have gotten through it without a cheat manual.

But that jump at the end of the water level cost me a remote, after throwing my other one against the wall.

  • Spiderman is the boss at 2:15 =)

  • Amazing speed run. Made my days of playing this game look like crap when compared to this. Good game.

  • the memories round 6 part 2 truly a bastard of a level

  • esse jogo é muito bom!!!

  • Last maze level was a serious b1tch. Prevented me from ever beating it. Awesome run though.

  • dude you just made this game look so easy! lol i still can't play this to save my life great job :)

  • When I was younger, I didn't think this game was too hard, oddly enough. I played it recently, however, and either I was really good back then or I just had too much time on my hands, lol. Much props on the speed run

  • Imagine paying for that Shinobi game at 50-60$ back in '89 only to finish it in 16 minutes... Ay ay ay, no es bueno!

  • speak 4 urself...this game took many people waayy longer than 16min...especially the bitch of the maze...:/

  • i got past spiderman once with 6 lives n then kept dieing in the water

  • Same. Water level was such a mufugga. I swear I died so many times to that jump at 3:07 cos if you don't do it perfectly you just drown. Seriously wtf.

  • never got passed spiderman without cheats *sigh*

  • I remember I was like "It's Spiderman!" as a kid on Level 6. I just noticed now that the level 7 boss is basically Godzilla. I can't believe I missed that.

  • i was mad young when I play this game

I could never beat the part when I got to spiderman

  • I never managed to get past the final maze onto the last boss :(

  • I love all the copyright infringements..hulk, spiderman, batman, godzilla...made this game unique

  • If they're really copyright infringements, then yes....that alone makes this game a classic for collectors.

  • @junkmailboy1000 Nah, they actually got the rights. You see them give props to their respective creators in the credits. I always thought they were stolen to. You can't really copyright a dinosaur though lol. It could have been any one/thing.

  • @junkmailboy1000 don't forget terminator

  • Oh crap.....I remember playing this when I was 8 or something long ago. I never got past the Round 6, the Spiderman boss. This game was seriously the best back then. I loved it. Thanks for putting this up.

  • Me to :)

  • He did all that just to get some poon tang.

  • Awesome game.

I could get as far as the harbor level with dying maybe a few times, but then I would waste ALL my lives and continues on the jump at 3:07

I just fall in the water and die.

    over

    and

    over

    and

    over

    again.

  • On Genesis I would get so aggravated having to redo the whole level to get to retry that part. With emulators you can save it at spots like that luckily.

  • Yeah that's how I enventually finished the game, shame I suck too much at that jump to finish the game without emu though :[

  • U should go back a few steps, start walking and make the jump while walking, in the last possible moment.

  • I could never beat this game. That last guy always kicked my ass.

  • cool job mate

  • the jump in 3:07 is impossible D:::::::......

  • lol spiderman and batman was in the original version as well

  • 3:07 to 3:10 i always had difficults in to jump

  • Anyone who hasn't played this game and has watched this video, you have no idea how skilled he is. I mean, this is one tough game! Good luck getting to the last boss...

    GREAT job mate.

  • Fuck, I couldnt even get past the short airplane level, and I played forever it seems.

  • Notice he didn't die ONCE.

  • He uses his "specials" a lot better than I did, lol.

I would just use mine at the most inappropriate times, probably why I sucked so much. Oh well, heh.

  • Yep, he's so insanely good it's not even fair to the AI. ^_^

  • *past

  • I never got passed the level at 5:49

  • took me about 8 hours lol

  • Oh, and NICE playing DTysonator! You definitively schooled Revenge and also made a great game look its best!

  • Thank you, for the compliment, YSagami, I definitely wanted to make this look fun and cool, hence why I used the art of Ikazuchi (temporary invincibility) for the most part, otherwise Joe Musashi would have probably bit the dust!

  • Revenge is an eternal classic. Rock-solid gameplay, varied and consistently immersive settings, and a killer Yuzo Koshiro soundtrack.

  • how come spiderman didnt change to batman, i thought he does?

  • There's the version which he does. But it caused copyright problems, and Sega had to transform Batman into the thing you saw in the video, and got the right for using Spider-Man from Marvel.

The same goes for Godzilla and the robotic dinossaur skeleton thing.

  • i used to have this game, it was awesome

  • Love that ending theme.

  • To DTysonator: I commend you for doing this without using tool-assist. Probably the hardest game on the Genesis right here.

I remember when I got six-pak and my sis used to be obsessed with this game while I was obsessed with Sonic. She made it to the spiderman boss and I believe that's as far as she could get. I could barely even get past that junkyard/building area and you did it with ease. Amazing stuff and great job, man.

  • U took the words right outta my mouth! I remember I used to feel like shit though when I couldn't save the girl at the end

  • God that part was a pain in the ass, oh yes lets stop fighting every five seconds and jam up the chains.

  • Ah, gee, thank you, SoApBoX!

Hopefully you've never had the misfortune of playing the sequel to this game, Shadow Dancer, it's even harder! I might give it a go though at some point, if I'm crazy enough! :)

  • No problem!

And I had no idea that there was a shinobi game between Shinobi 1 and Revenge. I don't want to imagine a game harder than this one, tbh...

To my personal preference, I would rather see you do a run through Sonic 2 GG, just because I think it rivals this game in terms of difficulty. You ought to at least play it because it's pretty fun, anyway.

  • Alright, SoApBoX, but how exactly would I be able to record a Game Gear game? The Sega Genesis doesn't have a converter like the Super Nintendo does for Game Boy games (Super Game Boy).

  • I don't record footage using emulators, but if there is a way of recording using the actual system or some kind of extension, I would definitely be willing to give it a try! Besides, there are Shinobi GG games as well ;).

I have always wanted to play the Sonic games, but never have up to this point, surprisingly enough! I'm sure that I will love them though!

  • (I made a fricken fast reply XD) You ought to try a few, they're great. Especially the ones on the Genesis, you should play those first just to get the gist of the series in general, then you can get on to the later ones(most of which suck :/ ).

Still, I'd like to see someone run circles around Sonic 2 for gg. Definitely the hardest Sonic game ever(also a fun one), and it would make for a good experiment recording gg games, too.

  • You certainly did, SoApBoX!

Yeah, I will play the first two Sonic Sega Genesis games for sure! Not sure about the third one or Sonic & Knuckles though, but we'll see.

So I take it that Game Gear games can't be recorded on a TV, unless it's done through emulation of some kind. Hmm, I'll have to look into this!

  • Can always use a camcorder of some kind XP

If it would make recording any easier, maybe you should try the Sonic 2 Master System version...it is exactly like the gg version, but you can see a lot more on screen and it's not as impossible to beat.

  • Well, there's an idea, SoApBoX! I don't own a camcorder, however playing the same game on the SMS would work!

I see your point though. When playing a game that was intended to be played on a small screen and opting to play it on a wider screen, it would definitely make things easier.

Games are best played on a regular screen, as there are no visual impairments in this way. That's why if I want to record GB footage, I just use the Super Game Boy cartridge. Visual quality at its best!

  • Actually, I think it came to the ms first, THEN the gg. but whatever, I like the gg version better because of increased difficulty. I'd still try the ms version if you can't get the gg version going.

Yep, games are best played the way they were originally built. I'm just wondering how you would be able to record something from the gg, unless if you did some uber haxx0rz, opened it up and worked with the inner circuts or something.

Playing with an emulator would make this tons easier :P

  • There has got to be a way of recording real GG footage. I'll do some research and see what I can fnd!

  • Alright, good luck with that, man. I will be watching your gg speedruns when you get them posted on YT or wherever else!

  • Thank you, SoApBoX, I'll keep you posted!

  • Cool, I'll be listening!

  • It's funny to see slow - walkin' shinobi in a speed run! Most people play a game for a month or so then buy a new one. It's nice to see someone take the time to really master a game. Excellent! 5/5

  • Thank you, I'm glad that you appreciate this run, smoretaco! :)

The Revenge of Shinobi is definitely a challenging game, but I'm the crazy type that always tries to up the challenge, to prove that just about anything is possible!

My next challenge will be to beat the game without picking up any items. If that proves to be too extreme, I will allow shuriken pick-ups only.

I haven't played this game in a while now, but when I do, I will be playing the original version with Batman! :)

  • Props for scoring a copy with Batman! Good luck with the no item run.

  • man you make it look too easy i was turtling just to not to lose the powerup

  • Thanks, Flaketeer, but as you know, looks can be very deceiving! :)

I struggled to put this together mostly because of that one long ass jump in Round 7 lol.

I didn't really get to practice Round 8 and it really shows in this video, as I clearly move Musashi around with greater caution here.

  • grrrrr

i had never passd the last level

  • I've finally seen the ending lol

  • Actually there are 2 endings. If you don't kill the final boss quickly enough, the ceiling starts to come down and will eventually crush your woman. Then, instead of standing outside with her, you stand alone. As you look up to the sky you see an image of her in the sky.

  • lol last time i played this game i was a little kid , i remember that i died at round 7 , this game brings back memories... anyway , the china town is my favorite stage , the song , the background , everything

  • i only ever got to zeed once, i kept getting lost in that damn cave level. And when i did get to him, i died -_-. good to finally see the ending.

  • China Town's theme was awesome.

  • am i the only one crying at the ending? i never thought i would see it.

  • This game has two endings; the second, you see him standing without the girl. 'The Bad' ending is: you get if you let the girl die while your fighting the final boss.

  • what i neve understood is why you had to fight spiderman??

  • LOL spiderman wasnt taking that crap! lol but i never knew why either but i forgot all about that! one of the funniest moments in this game!!!

  • I've noticed a couple things. I had the Japanese version which had the flame thrower guy with a mullet so he looks like Rambo and the Bat guy actually resembled Batman rather than a bat man. The Terminator guy remained the same, and I guess they had no problems with Godzilla and Spidey (since Sega made a Spidey game around the same time I would wager)

  • Hey Asian, what you're noticing is the different revisions of this game. Sega's first revision kept Spider-Man, Batman, Godzilla with skin, and the Terminator, but subsequent revisions kept deleting more and more characters. Godzilla was a skeleton, and Batman appeared more grotesque. Maybe they were only licensed to keep Spider-Man on? What you're seeing is the U.S. version make no mistake. There are just four or five different revisions of the game.

  • Didn't know they made that many revisions. I figured it was changes when Sega made when it made its way towards the west.

  • This game pwned. I think the furthest I got was the second to last level. I kept getting lost and dying. Good to see what happens at the end.

  • Yes...

To beat Zeed fast enough to save the girl, keep the pow!

The Ikazuchi art is the best bet here. You know,if you're at the labyrinthe exit and you're thinking that you don't have a pow...

Shoot the right wall at about jump height... there's a hidden pow right there.

  • pow is so damn important in this game

  • Yeah, it owns Zeed as well

  • When I was younger, I always asked my dad to help me get to the "Over the Bay" Mission. That mission was easy as hell for me.

  • You mean "hard as hell" don't you, Therightrater?

  • you really like ikazuchi don't you? :P

thanks a lot dude! ever since I was like... 7 when i first got this game, i could NOT for the life of me complete 'over the bay'

    you rock SO MUCH!!! xD

    ...x

  • Yeah, the art of ikazuchi rocks, coyaOMEGA :). At one point I was planning on recording a no power-up run, but have lost interest. Maybe I'll take up the challenge again sometime, as I have done it before, just not on video.

I agree, 'over the bay' can be a great pain, because of that one long ass jump lol. As I was playing the game, I wasn't even sure whether Joe would make the jump, it is that tough!

Anyway, I'm glad that you appreciate this run, thank you for your comments :).

  • at firrst wen i saw the guy on the top wall, i thought he was spiderman lol, but it was a bat thing

  • It was spiderman,as marvel n spiderman are listed in the title credits after a demo has been shown. Dont think he transformed into that bat thing thogh, i think he must turn up after spiderman feks off. Why marvel let them use spiderman as a villan is beyond me?

  • It was supposed to be spider-man and batman. The game had a few bosses, that had to be changed and altered because of copyright infringement. The terminator was different enough to be left alone, batman was changed into something more bat like, and godzilla was changed as well. Spiderman was allowed by marvel, just because.

  • Wow... you owned the last boss xD

That labyrinth music still creeps me out... that and the fact that when you entered a door, half of your leg was "cut"... oh, the horror. =P

I've finished this quite recently (a year ago or so) and I must say... the ending isn't that rewarding at all. The best ending isn't really cheerful, but the sad ending is really sad (that music should have been changed for the happy ending). =x

    Anyway, great gameplay and vid.

  • Thanks a ton! Daniel T and I have a lot more planned ;)

  • I agree with you, SonicOrochi, the labyrinth's music is pretty creepy, but cool :). The doors and flying ninjas are indeed creepy as well.

The ending is very unrewarding as you say. Most tough games have a rather disappointing ending for some reason.

About the Neo Zeed Master getting owned, I'm glad that you think so! He did break the invincibility shield though and did get to laugh, but Joe had the last laugh fortunately.

  • sweeet.

  • vn. I didn't realize ikazuchi was that wicked. looks like it takes away the rebound when you touch somebody or get hit.

I didn't realize you could touch all those people without taking damage.

  • what does ikazuchi do exactly?

  • wicked stuff very very good/ 5 star

  • Thanks, appreciate it! You can believe that Daniel T and I have some more things up our sleeve. Just wait ;)

  • streets of rage and shinobi ... the best !!!! sega 4ever

  • You've got that right! I still own all streets of rage games AND Shinobi III and Shadow Dancer.

  • there never was a streets of rage 3 was there?

  • actually, there was a streets of rage 3.but it was one of those rare genesis.if you want to play it,it's on the wii shop channel for 800 points.

  • wow, thanks

I don't have a Wii, but my friend does

and he's a big fan of the series

    thanks for the info

  • Sure,don't mention it!

  • w8 i thought spiderman was meant to become batman not that ? i thought so bcoz thas how my 1 is aswell he turns into sumthin else not batman? can any1 shed cum light on this mystery????

  • You're right, gamingfreak1, Spider-Man originally turns into a Batman-like clone. What happened though was that Sega failed to ask Marvel and DC comics for the rights to include these two heroes in the game.

Marvel made an agreement with Sega to allow them to use Spider-Man in the re-released versions, but DC did not allow Batman to be used and so that boss had to be altered.

  • There are several different versions of this game, the one that you mentioned is the rarest one, since it's the original version, mine is the second version.

The Godzilla-like clone is altered in some of the later versions and is basically all bones. That was the version that I had played the first time around.

  • THANKS!! i wonda how much i can sell it for if its the rare 1????!!lol

  • sorry i thought the 1 with batman was rarer or are u sayin that they didnt permision from marvel to use batman until l8er afta they made this 1? they had to update it coz they got the permision too l8 from marvel but this is the 1st version and its rarer is that all right?

  • You're welcome, gamingfreak1, and yes the one with Batman is the original and rarest version! DC was not asked by Sega if it would be okay to have him in the game and therefore DC did not allow him to be used in all of the other versions.

  • Those who own a Japanese Megadrive or have a Genesis/Megadrive adaptor can play Super Shinobi (Japanese version) and be sure of seeing both Spider-Man and Batman. This is the easiest way, otherwise it will be very difficult to find the original and rarest North American version.

  • i remember playing this with my brother when we were little kids, ha ha sega is so retro!

  • Oh yeah, fun stuff! Just wait until you see what Daniel T and I have coming ^_^. I'm working on some Neo Geo videos right this moment, plus Daniel has some more nice accomplishments in the works. Also, everyone look forward to new martial arts videos from me soon (if everything works out right, that is)!

  • that was amazing, i never got through the 3rd or 4th level

  • I'm glad that you enjoyed the video, poweredbairice and I am sure that if you were to use these strategies that you would also finish this game. Give it another try, it's definitely beatable, trust me!

  • I will be sure to let Daniel know about your question :)

  • Man this video is one of the best ever speed gaming... this game was super hard when I was a kid... how long did it take you to practice before you got it right?

  • Thanks for the compliment, pifern14! Yes this game can be super hard. It really frustrated me at times. The speed run would not have been nearly as great had I not seen speed runs from other members on Youtube.

  • I incorporated some of their strategies, while also coming up with some of my own, as you might have noticed.

It took me a while of dedicated game playing to dominate Revenge of Shinobi. I really got lucky at times to be honest, especially in Round 7 with that one insane long jump, I have always hated that jump lol!

  • Round 8 is tricky as well, but the temporary invincibility item definitely helps. In some of the speed runs that I viewed, that power-up was not used, which is insane!

There were many times when I felt like giving up on the speed run, as I always seemed to screw up at some point. But, fortunately I always brushed myself off and tried it again until I was finally successful. The key is to never give up!
