  • Wont the extra coal we burn at the power plant in order to charge our electric vehicles offset the reduction in tailpipe emissions anyway? Seems like still, even now, there ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

  • @stratocast04 To state the obvious, not all electricity is generated with coal! In fact...in the US less than 50% is coal sourced and reducing each year. Secondly, moving to EVs is like swapping incandescent lamps for LEDs, they do the same work but on 1/10th the energy.

  • Those are not very good representatives of Porsche or Ferrari, in fact those are some of their worst cars. Buy a golf diesle now or a Fiat 500, they're cleaner than the Prius anyway. Also buy a real Atom, it will destroy your face.

  • Ok people need to chill and get their facts straight. There is no reason that the EV atom shouldn't beat the gas cars in an 1/4 mile, because, unless it is different from conventional electric motors, the EV atom has the ability to go from 0% performance to 100% performance in an instant. Its just the way electric motors work. You also may notice that the Ariel weighs FREAKING NOTHING! Is it gimmick-y going from a rolling start and only doing a 1/4 mile, perhaps. But the EV Atom is quicker.

  • What's the point on comparing a car to a toy?

  • Question: Why is this an 1/8th mile "track"? Wouldn't a 1/4 mile or better yet, a full mile be a better test? These super cars are after all, designed for ultra high speeds. Is it because this faux-atom would get totally destroyed? Probably so. Also, why are the two supercars granny shifting? And what's up with the roll start with the carerra? That seems like trickery. You can spend 7k bucks on a POS Honda CRX and make it faster in an 1/8th than those two super cars. This all seems fake.

  • Fuck oil companies that buy battery patents so they cant be produced.

  • @isk3602007 i dunno man,the feeling of running 30psi on e85 is pretty amazing lol

  • electric atom vs the tango, im sure the atom would win but id love to see how the tango compares

  • nice.....i had the honour of him coming to my high school in new Zealand about 2 yrs ago and he was friggin great

  • asi o mas rápido hahahahaha

  • the atom is electric?

  • @parth17870 No, there using the same body.

  • @parth17870 this one is.

  • electric motors are just plain better than gas in every way! imagine if the electric car motor had 10% ( or less) the research funding gasoline motors have per year . holy fuck tard watch out!

  • @tool5150 tru, not yet in all circumstances maybe. electric infrastucture but stil. Not only better more efficient greener on paper, thats already proven. Now, if we get the electricity production green (0 emission) we are there!

  • @tool5150 AND they prolong to use and dependency on oil. Exactly what big oil wants!!

  • electric motors are just plain better than gas in every way!

  • at the end of the day I would take the CGT over the atom ANYDAY!

  • run it against the arial atom v8. if it wins then, i will be inpressed

  • Yea save money in gas so when battery dies all that saved money for gas goes to a battery to be installed

  • @caLi2o9 Swapping a battery once a decade is cheaper than replacing the entire car because the entire ICE powertrain is worn out!

  • @tsport100 once a decade is VERY optimistic..... once every five years sounds more realistic.

  • @hsew Gonna have to call you on that one! There are plenty of Hybrid and EV taxi in Japan and China that have passed 100,000 miles without any battery degradation... That's equal to 10 years for the average motorist!

  • hola hablo español

    hello speak spanish

  • i love how you can only hear the ariels wheels peeling out because its virtually silent

  • sick :)

  • Lol carrera GT had traction control on I could hear the power cutting

M5board shows the ariel getting destroyed

  • owned

  • the atom because its electric takes off a lot faster

  • Why did they ruin an atom, how dare they

  • Im all for electric cars but what would happen if this car catches fire vs a standard petrol car?

I've seen some devastating effects of lithium fires, fuel too but compared with each other what would be worst?

How long do the take to fully fuel Vs a petrol car.

For your information on a 2010 Porsche 911 turbo engine you get 16-mpg in the city and 24-mpg on the highway, so your comparison / estimate is a little off. Plus you've not applied the actual cost of charging to your running cost.

  • At the end of the day, I don't know a single person who'd pick the electric toaster oven car over a Carerra GT

  • This car is absolutely amazing. i want one.

  • No disrepect intended. It is an awesome machine for man to behold. Thank u for the correction. I only kno the aireal atom is gas powered. Hats off 2 u for the vid and hats off foe those who created such powerful machines for man to "attempt" to control

  • NOT an aireal atom. This is an tesla f1

  • @kelsocoleman Wrightspeed X1, you were close!

  • great concept and awesome performance, but will need alot of revision to get it to a stage where more people will want to use it everyday. as it is, it's a great weekend trashabout. the problem is with batteries and charging time. sure you could swap them out but who wants to muck about with that. 3mins refueling with petrol and you're back up and running at full steam.

    but great car.

  • Brilliant car, deffo the way to go.

  • Being an electric motor, I would of expected more than 182 ft lbs torque...

  • @Vietwhiteboy

It's probably limited by the batteries.

  • How do electric cars do on wet roads like snow? Too much wheel spin and it's dangerous. Still need traction control.

  • @3089280288 Good question. The AC Induction motor in the EV has traction control by default.

An AC motor generates torque in response to load, so if the traction is limited, the load will be minimal and so the AC motor will generate minimum torque.

Also If the tires do break traction and spin the AC motor automatically "regen" brakes and slow down again.

Note at the end of the video how hard it is to get the EV to wheel spin.

  • @tsport100 Yeah, AND you can get whatever torque you want, at any speed (no gears), so it would be more controllable even without T/C. This is also why they run the 1/4 faster and quicker with the same power & weight.. No shifting.

  • Cool! Without a doubt EV is the way to go!!!

  • damn

  • it may have been faster over the quarter mile, but the battery probably would of been flat if it had to go any further

  • Typically it uses 500 watt hours per run, the battery pack is 25 kWh so it could do up to 50 runs per charge.

    You're slightly less ignorant now!

  • Thats still only about 13 miles on one battery, how far can the ferrari and the porsche go on one tank?

  • The EV has 100 mile range and costs $0.02 per mile to drive. The Porsche gets about 10 mpg and costs $0.45 per mile ( 22.5 x as much PER MILE)

Make all the rediculous statements you want, you're simply WRONG! LOL

  • @tsport100 UMM, 2cents per mile? No way can it be close to that. That's like a bicycle's cost. Seriously, did you mean to say 20cents, which is still quite good.

  • @sterlingab The cost of electricity in the US averages $0.10 per kWh, that's 1000 watt hours. Most EVs use approx 200 watt hours per mile. So 1 kWh, or $0.10 worth of electricity will give an EV 5 miles worth of range, that's $0.02 per mile. Look it up on the Tesla Motors web site if you want to confirm it.

You'll reduce your fuel bill by 90%+ with a plug-in EV over a ICE car. Now you get some idea why every auto maker on the planet are developing EVs.

  • @tsport100 LOL..."get some idea why every auto maker...". YOU need to get the idea, slick. The ONLY reason EVs are being made by major manufacturers is govt pressure. there is practically NO consumer demand. That's what "freedom" looks like nowadays.

  • @kenfo0 "NO consumer demand" ? LOL That's why the gen 3 Toyota Prius has been the #1 selling vehicle in Japan for 15 months straight since the day it was launched and the Nissan Leaf pre-sold 20,000 cars in the first 35 days without so much as a test drive, yep... zero demand!! LOL

  • @abe13maz Going at full throttle, you'd be amazed at how little distance a full tank gets you in a farrari, or any big engine. The inefficiency is ridicolous

  • ok now let's make a Ferrari electric car! haha

  • It can be done!

  • So it's only like .4s quicker across the quarter than an R35 GTR? .. Doesn't seem that great to me ...

  • how come it still has the intake? and how can they call it an x1 when buell had an x1 years ago? no copyright?

  • it doesn't have an intake. it's a fully electric engine. there might be vents to cool the generator, but that's about it....

  • power to weight. big deal.

  • You do the math

    Ferrari 360 Spider - 400Bhp / 3197lb

    Porsche Carrera GT - 605Bhp / 3043lb

    Wrighspeed X1 - 220Bhp / 1536lb

  • it isn't power to weight. it's torque. the electric motor doesn't have to rev to get torque. the torque is always there and if controlled properly, it will have maximum grip at all times...if you watch the part with the carerra gt, you'll hear the tires from the porche spinning. listen to the engine and how the revs go up and down because it is losing traction. not a problem with the electric car at all

  • Mmmm... Fast, hot, and so delightfully silent. I hate how loud cars are. That thing just rocks!

  • ITS NOT WHAT YOU'RE THINKING IT IS!!!! Same frame but not with a Honda motor but an electric one. Normally I would just educate you but since you have to disrespect the entire American nation Here you have it!. Now EAT IT! You stupid ignorant piece of fucking shit! You're the kind of person that would judge and jury a whole entire race for one persons crime. People like you need to die!

  • For all those times I'm racing the 1/4 mile (yeah, right) I'll take the X1. for the other 99.999% of the time when I don't have 45 minutes to charge up every 200 miles, I'll take the Porsche.

  • it's simply a fact that electric motors have full torque available from 1rpm to max whereas an IC engine first has to develop (far less) torque and then marry that up to the drive train (man or auto). Full hybrids can easily push IC cars to one side simply by having a small onboard ICE as the generator (producing far less CO2). We could be there now, but politics (oil etc.) and lobbying stops it. Quite simple. Full hybrid cars will have more than 2000Nm of torque. NO IC cars have that now.

  • Politics?? Are you serious?? You really think oil company cronies are going to every university and every independent electric car shop and shutting them down?? God you're naive.

  • kfumike: No you're saying that. I didn't describe how they have done it, you just did. The entire world knows that there has always been an oil lobby. And classic car makers have had no interest in the past in taking the risk of swapping to a technology that is risky. Car mkers could make the full hybrid but they don't. Oil companies have indeed supported car makers big time and maintained an interest that fuel burners remain the mainstream vehicles. That may change soon, but it will take a whi

  • trident3b . Find me ONE shred of evidence, just one little objective journalistic piece of information that ties oil companies to car companies. Seriously, that shit is getting old. I've been hearing it for 30 years now and NO ONE has ever been able to show me this backroom contract that oil companies have with car companies. Onus of proof is on you, as youre the one perpetuating the nutball conspiracy theory.

  • Look up "Cobasys" and "ECD Ovonics".

You'll soon find GM selling a controlling interest in patents for NiMH EV batteries to Chevron/Texaco who in turn sued Toyota and Panasonic for $32 Million and restricted the size of NiMH battery they could sell in the US until 2014

  • if you r wating to see the contracts... please open your eyes, do not be so naive.

  • that's exactly what happen, you are the naive here, if you have any doubt try to remember what happened with preston tucker, when he tried to make safety car´s

  • @trident3b If a car of any engine type had 2kNm or ~1500ft lbs it would not have rubber on the tires for long. I once drove a drag car with "cheater" tires on the street once and it was difficult to not leave rubber on a start. Now, this was a real racecar with no business on the street and an engine with a peak of about 1500 ft lbs. At idle WAY less. This thing ran the quarters in the high 7s on slicks and fuel. I would not want to drive something like that daily, or frankly, again.

  • the video is great man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fuck Fuel Economy, I said...

  • Amen to that!!!

  • @tsport100: you are the man! :D

  • der porsche ist trotzdem besser

  • ja klar

  • what about Gemballa Mirage GT????....=D buhuhaha!!!

  • no matter how efficient, how fast, or how economic the car really is, lets face it, if you own a ferrari, or a porsche you have the money to drive it, so you dont give a shit about the price it costs to drive, also you drive for the feel, the sound of that awesome v10 race engine. not cuz it can go 20 kph or 400 kph

  • actualy if you wright down Ariel Atom top gear, you will see how fast it is, actualy on second thought im REALY suprised, and im a fan from now on :>

  • your freaking electric car can reach 150-200 klm? it just has a crasy acceleration. the porche gt can reach 409 klm even more then the bugatti. Are you trying to convince people that your car is faster? but im not gonna hide that i was suprised, and i hope cars like these will someday come in our lifes.

  • Listen mate...

Who on earth needs are road car that'll do 400kph???? A public road isn't a race track!

This EV will do over 180 kph which is almost 40% more than any legal speed limit (and don't bother to mention Autobarns... you don't live in Germany and neither do I)

The fact is.... the EV is only 230 hp.... costs $1.50 per 100km to drive and blows off 600hp + cars that cost $30 per 100km.

  • Comment removed

  • hmm interesting but you see porches and f430s don't need to run their ass off on every light to prove them selfs (imagine one of those on your streets) or get stares suggesting some thing along the lines of "whos that confident looking queer driving around in his go-kart..." and thats just a start. don't get me wrong i like electric motors more but it not our time yet so until then i'll stick with my tt.

  • wow it beat a gt... i want one!!

  • Get your facts straight!

The "petrol Atom" you refer to has 300HP AND is 250kg lighter than the EV yet does EXACTLEY the same 1/4 mile time and EXACTLEY the same 0-60.

The EV has 220Hp and costs ONLY $0.01 per mile to drive.

If SEEING a 650hp ICE getting it's arse kicked by a 220hp EV doesn't convince you, nothing will!

  • wait for it... ya you're REALLY dumb.

If you knew anything about electric cars, (or if you just payed attention to ian in the vid), you'd know they are way more efficient than gas. You don't even know the fact's of the gas atom vs the ev and you make such absurd claims!

Oh the ignorance is hurting my head! Make it stop!

  • I might buy an electric car wen someone makes one that isnt ass ugly. till then ill still dream about porches and ferraris

  • electric mini is coming out in 2009-

they claim to have built it like a diesel electric car, where a small motorbike engine can recharge engine-

    they claim 900km range

  • That company went into bankrupcy Nov last year so don't hold your breath.

  • So you've never seen a Tesla then? They look surprisingly like...er...a Ferrari, but cost less.

The point is, ANYONE can make an EV that looks like ANY car, or weren't you paying attention these past few years?

  • sure the EV was faster than the cars it was tested against, but i wouldn't consider it a car, rather an electric kart. so who cares if its faster, its not even a car.

  • 4 wheels and street legal, yup it's a car, and a damn good one at that.

  • ferrari and porchse got owned!@!@!@!@!@! and they cost way more wtf. im going to buy an eletric car and own some ferraris.

  • wow !!

  • No big deal. E-Motors have more torque than normal petrol engines. In theory they habe most torque at 0 RPM. The CGT has most torque at 8000 RPM or so...

  • Driving isn't all about what a vehicle can do on paper. The EV doesn't hold a candle to any Ferrari in terms of craftsmanship or sheer sensual experience. That's because they're works of art.

People will still pay astronomical amounts of money for a Ferrari GTO manufactured in 1962. It's certainly not the fastest car out there - not by a long shot. But, they pay the money because to drive a Ferrari is to drive a piece of history.

If given the choice, I'd drive ANY Ferrari over the EV.

  • Ariel atom chassis and styling without the atoms performance. The Atoms got a power to weight ratio of more than an Enzo and 0-60mph at 2.5 secs. How many racing cars have those stats. We still way off EV's

  • You have 'invented' that figure!

The 300hp supercharged Atom that weighs only 1005lb does EXACTLEY the same 0-60 (3 sec)and 1/4 mile time (11.5) as the EV which has only 220hp and weighs 1536lb.

So it's just as fast with a much worse power to weight ratio but costs only $0.01 per mile to drive.

  • This EV should be put up against something in its weight class such as F1 or F3 instead of these relative heavies.

  • Ferrari 360 Spider - 400Bhp / 3197lb

    Porsche Carrera GT - 605Bhp / 3043lb

    Wrighspeed X1 - 220Bhp / 1536lb

As you can see the 'heavy' Porsche still has a better power to weight ratio than the EV.

  • That's great and all, but the races between these cars are all about acceleration and end already in just over 3rd gear where the power of the Ferrari and Porsche is just started to be seen. No arguing here, but there's a reason for weight classes, even in Le Mans.

  • Do some basic math.

The Porsche has approx 3x the horse power of the EV yet weighs only 2x as much. To make it a 'fair' race and even up the hp/ton ratio the EV needs to turn up with 307hp, approx 40% more than what it has.

What you're seeing is an Electric Motor with 100% torque from zero rpm. Any ICE is simply beaten as soon as it drops the clutch.

  • Reading some of these comments makes me sick. Stop being so ignorant and WAKE UP to the state of the world. Sure these amazing looking cars will always be available, but would you be proud to own a 10 mpg vehicle (or less), when there are 0 emission vehicles out there? Make some changes in your lives, and be prepared, because over the next 4 years, people who drive gas guzzling vehicles will be looked at like and treated the way smokers are looked at and treated now.imo. and pick up some garbage

  • How does the electric motor work also as the break (regenerative breaking)? Could you perhaps post a vid of this concept? if you can find one.

  • Fast as hell, and fun to zip around in I guess, but definitly notta Chick magnet, so I'm going w/the Porsche =P

  • this video is a load of shit. no battery powered car can fucking beat a ferrari and a porsche. and if it truely is so damn fast then i doubt itll be street legal.

  • Keep looking Pal, Seeing is believeing. I have a load more videos on my channel showing exactly the same thing!

Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it's not true LOL.

  • The X1 might be cool and fast, but it only makes such a fast time because the eletronic powered wheels balances for traction control = you cant do a burn out, whats the point having a pricey sports car if it doesnt make noise and burn rubber, it would make sense as a city car but not a sports car yet, there is still more oil left in the earth for us to bleed.

  • If you don't think EVs can do burnouts search for "Killacycle" on my channel and become enlightened!

  • this is an arial atom, with an electric engine..

  • lol x1? and whos gonna prefer an x1 when theres a porsche cgt and modena lol?

  • Someone who can add!!

The X1 is 1/10th the purchase price of the Porsche, costs 1/30th the price per mile to drive and does 0-60 is almost a full second FASTER!

  • I could listen to the GT all day in this video!!

  • I definately wouldn't mind this X1 car, but i would still prefer the roar of a supercar :)

  • Look at what's he doing at 0:26 lol, what a powerful car :D

  • electric just doesn't sound right compared to an IC engine, the Toyota Prius is terrible as top gear showed a BMW had better fuel consumption :)

  • I don't see a Prius anywhere in this video!

  • The comparison that you mentioned was with the Prius racing full-out all the way around a closed race track while the BMW just shadowed the Prius. The Prius is not desinged for track racing, it is optimized for stop and go city traffic. If you compared those same two cars in stop and go urban traffic it would be a completely different result. Hopefully, electric cars will soon replace all ic cars. As far as the sound... if you lived near a busy road you might appreciate electrics more.

  • You'd have to question anyone who set up such a test. Clarkson is just reinforcing the stereotype where idiots drive a Prius for an hour down a motorway and can't figure out why it doesn't save fuel. We're talking brain dead morons here!

  • if you look at the rest of the episode you see clarkson explaining the journey the nikel out of the expensive, not very efficient nickel metal hydride batteries in a prius. I am all for electric cars i just don't believe battery technology has advanced far enough for it to be a dependency and i think they would probably be better with lithium polymer batteries, lithium ion batteries and the more recently developed lithium iron batteries. and i think jeremy clarkson is a tit :)

  • my dad gots a porche =D i love it

  • Well go out and have a look at back of it to learn how to spell 'Porsche' !

  • damn

  • that is an ariel atom that`s been butchered to run on duracell batteries

  • Electric is impressive only snag is the battery cost and limitations. Electric cars are quite simple regarding the parts involved vs the gas car.

  • being a supercar freak... i refuse to believe this. i mean if this is possible... kudos to you, but it lacks the style.

  • the big difference in the cars is like how the nhra top fuels and funny cars were before the most recent nitro %age drop. top fuel was quicker 4.5 secs and funny cars were faster at 330 mph but slower time at 4.8 seconds. the electric has all it's torque at 100rpm and the ferarri and porsche shift atleast 3 times in the 1/4 mile(losing e.t. time). now the ferarri and porsche will smoke that electic in a lap around lowes motor speed way but the key is distance traveled.

  • The difference is an EV has Max torque from 1 rpm and the torque curve is almost flat from there to redline. The ICE in the Porsche doesn't hit max torque till over 5750rpm hence ALL ICEs need a multi speed gearbox just to be drivable.

The EV is geared for a top speed of only 110mph with just one gear. If it had the same range of gears as the Porsche etc, it would win on a 200mph speedway too with a lower power to weight ratio.

  • what do you think the weight differance is?

  • Ferrari 360 Spider - 400Bhp / 3197lb / 11 MPG

    Porsche Carrera GT - 605Bhp / 3043lb / 10 MPG

    Wrighspeed X1 - 220Bhp / 1536lb / 170 MPG

(Energy consumption 200 WHr/mile in urban use, equivalent to 170 mpg (33,705 WHr/gallon) Cost approx $0.02 per Mile.)

  • bastards tried to copy ariel atom, the atom has civic type R engine with a supercharger and does about 0-62 in 2.9 seconds

  • NO IT IS A DIERECT COPY

  • It sounds like a hairdryer.

  • the normal petrol ariel atom on which this car is based is faster to 60 and would be all these supercars anyway, just look in the top gear test track times

  • Yet another 20 yo know all. As usual you are missing the point entirely!

The ICE Atom you refer to has 300hp, this EV has 220hp yet does EXACTLY the same times, BUT costs $2.50 to 'fill up' for a range of 100 miles. It's something in the region of 1/20th to 1/30th the cost of running on petrol!

What does a gallon of petrol cost in the UK today < $10.00

  • lol.... an combustion engine will never beat a electric motor...

  • race it against a comparable car. The 360 is a shitty comparison. It's a completely different type of car.

The acceleration is impressive, but on a long distance the X1 wouldnt stand a chance against a 612 hp V10 engine!!

  • well Im sure the X1 is fun to drive and its a good vehicle, but to me it will never offer the driving experience of a real car. it's probably similar to an ariel atom.

by the way there's no speed limit on german motorways, for us its not completely useless function. you can go to race track as well.

  • The stupid autobarn argument, how rediculous! For the 200+ countries in the world that DON'T have autobahn it's totally irrelavant and much of the 'autobahn' is speed limited anyways!

    Grow up!

  • holy fuck!

  • It makes perfectly sense. Electric motors have an inherent momentum that are 300% bigger than any ottomotor engine.

Thus the torque is soo much larger, and the acceleration is crazy compared to any pistonengine.

  • what's the difference between that and an Ariel Atom?

  • It's Electric!

  • ariel atom has way more style

  • It's the same freaking body... what are you talking about.

  • very impressive but it's ugly as fuck.

  • wow impressive

  • Really nice invetion, but i think its Ugly =) sorry mate. If you could make it look like a ferrari and still have the same performance and capabilities I would definetly want one!

  • same performance and capabilities... no way... it would be so much better

but yeah its not so good looking.

  • That sure looks like an Aerial Atom

  • The Porsche has 400hp per ton, the EV is about 300hp per ton.

The truth is you need more than 600hp per ton, like a Ferrari Enzo, just to match the speed of the EV. It does 0-60 in 3.07 sec, an Enzo does 3.4 the Porsche does 3.9

    Ferrari 360 Spider - 400Bhp / 3197lb

    Porsche Carrera GT - 605Bhp / 3043lb

    Wrighspeed X1 - 220Bhp / 1536lb

  • doesnt matter how much HP you have really?

all you need to know is thats its 0-60 in less than 3 secs and gets insane ammount of fuel mileage! as soon as i have enough saved up im opening a EV shop (selling, converting, repairing), people say diesel the future,

  • so does the electric car use gasoline at all?or what does it use?

  • • 3-phase AC induction motor, 236hp at the motor shaft

    • 182 ft lbs torque at the motor shaft, from 0 rpm to 6,000 rpm

    • 13,300 rpm rev limit

    • weight 1,536 lbs

    • no clutch, single gear ratio 8.25:1

    . 25kw/hr Li-Ion battery pack

  • Too bad the dude in the Atom's going to be dead after he gets hit by a bike that's going 20 mph.

  • the idiots driving the 360 and carerra gt dont know how to use a clutch, they both barely moved off the line, those two cars do 0-60 in 3.2 which is not slow (dont know what atch is on about - exotic cars are bloody fast 1/4 mile), but the atom is 0-60 2.6 ish, which isnt that greater....

  • Listen, ALL owners of these exotics know a clutch a seriously weak link in a car with 600hp and a replacement is bound to cost them 5 figures easy.

The GREAT thing is the EV doesn't have or need a clutch so that's one flawed automotive part consigned to history.

  • bugatti veyron should race it

  • Fuk The Bugatti... So many idiots like them. They suck. V16 Quad turbo... waste of money... By the way. When it comes to the 1/4 mile.... non of the exotics are fast..
