  • Beautiful instrument. You might consider a different dress for performance. This one distracts the eye. I have sung the Hermit Songs. They're quite difficult!

  • I'm singing this song so I understand the complexities of this cycle. This song is meant to be a lullaby so in that respect, it could have been much slower. This is a song that you should take time with cause it gives you a way to show off your voice. And I agree with @Imsubramaniam. there should be a connection with your pianist.

  • you have some major rhythmic issues to remedy! also too fast......

  • I really enjoy your voice, you have tremendous potential. I just wish your pianist had helped you out a little more...this song is a such a collaboration between singer and pianist.

  • @ilovelamp8388

    yeah no kidding.

  • again beautiful!!!! one thing that might help with relaxing the shoulders is standing with the feet shoulder width apart. they are pretty close together in this recital. with the feet wider you feel more grounded and can take the tension out of the shoulders. but i must say you have a BEAUTIFUL voice! :)

  • is this at penn state?!

  • You have a great voice, but I think if you had connected more to the words and the feeling of this piece it would have helped you to relax. This is a lullaby but felt too rushed.

  • she is singing this song to the new baby king, in context she is singing to the baby jesus, She connected just fine, It was like a lullaby, it could have been softer, but she connected fine.

  • Wow what a big voice! I agree with some of the comments that the legato line could be better eg) my becomes ma hai a little to often.. you are re-onsetting the sound unnecessarily. The only other distraction from this lovely performance is that your American accent is very strong, which changes some of the vowel sounds.Very good though

  • I love this Barber piece! I can't believe there aren't more performances available on here... I enjoyed your singing a lot.

  • Hi Aniyia, I'm a 2nd year voice major at the University of Toronto, and I'm doing this piece for my spring 2009 jury. Great interpretation and voice! I agree with the others, that you could relax more, but it's not always easy to be relaxed while performing! Thanks for the great vid!

  • Relax your shoulders...your whole body for that matter so you can connect your beautiful voice with your breath support.

  • very good performance, my only suggestion would be to watch closing to the consonant too soon. With a beautiful lullaby like this, melody and line are supreme.

  • This is beautiful.

I love how much you commit to the music. It's inspiring..

I am just starting this piece and I really enjoy your performance!!!

  • You have a beautiful voice! I'm a classical singer as well and think it's great. I'm currently revisiting this song and came across your video. Keep up the good work!

  • You're a little tense... but this is one of my favorite Barber songs! You need to open your throat a little for the ending, but overall, it was really good.
