I have an iBook G4 that has the multi-language error screen saying that i need to restart my computer. This usually occurs either when i boot it up, or when i try to access the internet. What should I do?
I speak some French (from school days) and while I did not understand what you were saying during your video, the video work was focussed and gave a clear view of everything that you were doing. It means that I will be able to repair my own iBook G4.
Hello, from USA. I just finished this repair on iBook that kernel panicked every time it was turned on (if it ever got past the dark shade and black 'restart' box). I don't speak French, but your video is very easy to understand. Fingers crossed, but it seems to be working fine, now. I, too, cannot believe a simple piece of paper is the solution. I can't thank you enough, my friend. JDeGroom

sorry i don't speak any french but i think i could understand what to do from the visuals... just wondering if this is a high risk adventure or really, there's nothing i can screw up too much?
also if i do this, does that mean my airport will work fine (for a while, at least)
at the moment i can run internet off the ethernet cable but it'd be great to get airport back.
thanks for all the effort you've put in applitoshDOTnet!!

It took me two hours (compared to your 20 minute repair) but it seems to be working great. My iBook has been running for 5 hours since I reassembled it with no random airport disconnect or kernel panics.
Instead of paper I used a small neoprene washer that was just laying around ... about 1/16" thick or a little less, I suppose, and squashed it under the plastic retaining bar.
Only two screws left over, seams look good, nothing broken or cracked ... success!
Well, this video is only applicable for the iBook G4 Mid 2005. If you have kernel panic, I advise you to reinstall the system, or to swap the memory. Maybe try to swap the Airport card.
Super guide! Tout reussi de demonter et faire comme vous. Dommage que ca ne mas pas réparé le truc...

Great clip!
I think I have the same problem with my 12" powerbook g4.
But it doesn't look the same as the ibook.
Can you help me?

Ha Ha Nice work!!
I know that 'shims' have a life span.. some shorter than others.. How long has this worked for?

Thanks simonhead666, well this trick is still working, and I do it to the people I know, and we never had any problem with it...
Don't worry about it, I can speak english ;)
I used just an half of a Letter Paper, folded many times still it fits for the Airport. Then you can enjoy it.
