Oh i love this scene so much!!!!! anne's my favorite character through the whole series. Ya you tell him anne. the king fell in love with you and who you are as individual not the schemes your devious father and brother made. I'm so mad that things ended the way they did, but out of all of henry's wives anne will forever remain the most legendary, intelligent, and enchangtingly beautiful. So, therefore she is my favorite.
@alyismyname999 So it's permissible to be a homewrecker if the wife is older than the man you're seducing? No way that's what you meant. And casting messed up the age difference. Maria is 13yrs older than JRM, & JRM is 5yrs older than Natalie. IRL, KoA was 5.5yrs older than Henry & Henry was btw 10-16yrs older than Anne, depending on which DOB you believe for her. It's disputed whether she was born in 1501 or 1507. Either way, tho, Henry & Anne weren't agemates; he & KoA were.
@theladyeternal i think what she means by "old" is that KoA was too old to have any more children and in a lot situations the king must divorce a wife if he still doesn't have a son and she can't give him one. King Louis XII of France's wife Joan of France couldn't give him a son so he divorced her for Anne Duchess of Brittany.
@theladyeternal Remember, back then they thought women couldn't rule, so naturally Henry thought he needed a son above all else whether it hurt his current wife's heart or not
I love Anne, but I wish she (and Henry) hadn't publicly rejoiced Katherine's death. I understand that Katherine's death meant that she was more secure in her position, but still, have a little respect. Katherine was a class act who never wished her enemy harm, and even told her ladies to pray for Anne. It's easy to see who is the better woman.
Anne was stressed out too much cause her first pregnancy Henry was there in her room sometimes.. but after 1st miscarriage she was alone. and both of them were too strong for each other. i still dont like her father.
This video is about Anne, and it also shows her daughter If you like Catherine of Aragon, and Mary, fine. But don't be rude, sneer and hate since this vid is for the ones that LIKE Queen Anne. Don't like? Don't comment. Plain and Simple.
@sasua741 Queen Mary killed a lot of protestants, I hope you are no protestant, my dear. If she would still live today and you were a protestant you were doomed.
Anne may have been executed by a worthless man, but it was Anne who got her revenge, because she gave England one of the strongest rulers they ever did see, I hope Henry was watching when his daughter was Queen, and I beat he kicked himself for ever executing Anne.
I don't think Jane was as innocent as she seemed to me. She knew how to play her cards just like Anne did. Sadly, both woman didn't live to see thier children grow up and rule.
I don't think Jane was as innocent as she seemed to me. She knew how to play her cards just like Anne did. Sadly, both woman didn't live to see thier children grow up and rule.
@summergirlx17 i don't think that's necessarily fair. I mean anne is my absolute favorite out of all the characters on the show. Her character was just so epic and strong and briliant. But Jane didn't really do anything horrible. I'm not a big jane because she replaced anne in the series. But still it wasnt jane's fault. Things changed after anne. The king became more powerful and a woman probably could not say no to him otherwise theyd die.
@summergirlx17 Also i can't blame jane because i'm still so pissed off at henry!Henry loved anne so passionately. he did extreme things to show that love and then when he decided that he's tired of her (which i don't get because how can anyone be tired of that amazing girl?) he let himself believe false rumors and its off with her head. To make things worse he marries jane who i think is the epitome of boring compared to anne and claims he never loved anne but it was just a "spell"? what a jerk!
@summergirlx17 The big difference btw Anne & Jane was the publicness & ramifications of their respective affairs. Anne's seduction of Henry didn't just affect his marriage to KoA. It affected the religious security people'd had all their lives, & Anne was very open about her designs. Jane was much quieter about her involvement w/ Henry & his affair w/ her saw a swing back towards the practices people were used to. Not back to Catholicism, but closer to what they'd always known.
Such and amazing scene, they're all great actors!!! :D
When I first saw this scene I realised the detail that Henry wears black because he's mourning Catherine's death but Anne wears yellow because she's celebrating it... :/
But I'm Spanish and a history student, I can assure you that at that time Spain's colour for mourning was black. The yellow color was in the 13th century.
You're right, it was and insult, but Natalie's such a good actress and that powerful spirit in this scene...!
@theirealife93 I know you wrote this comment 7 months ago but I just wanted to say; I read that Henry was actually also wearing yellow. They both celebrated Katherine's death.
@Eloise672 Like I said earlier to ShanaFirouzeh, during KOA's era, the color of mourning in Spain was in fact black. In Joanna the Mad's (KOA's sister) writings and their mother's and family too, you'll see that when they worte about mourning someone, they all wore black clothes. In medieval times, some royal women from Spain wore actually white/yellow clothes, but that was out of fashion in the 15th/16th century. ^^
Think, If Henry never killed anne, and stayed wih her till his death, he would not have the reputation he would have today. To bad that she did speak to soon.
Strange that this scenes - which is supposed to be just after Queen Catherine's Death (January 7th, 1536) show green trees and people don't seem dressed up warm...this was January...!
@halyie In real life, Henry wore yellow, too -- though some historians note that yellow was the mourning color of Spain at the time, so it may have been meant as a sign of respect. Obviously, we'll never really know -- though from Anne's perspective, right or wrong, she certainly didn't have much reason to be sad over Katherine's death, since it made her feel finally safe and, in her mind, at last truly queen (not to mention she and Katherine weren't exactly best friends :P).
@11Juliet yes i know and i like anne but i dont like what she did to Katherine she didnt have to be sad
about the death but she didnt need to be happy about it either and i dont feel that sorry for her even thoe i do like her cause she put herself in this place and she may of felt safe but she wasnt AS we know it herny cut off her head anyways
@halyie I totally agree that it was extremely rude of Anne to act so openly happy about Katherine's death, and I certainly would never act that way myself -- I'm just saying that it's understandable where she was coming from, even if I don't personally agree with it, you know? Anne didn't know the future -- she had no idea Henry would betray her the way he did, because she was completely in love with and devoted to him and he promised her a million times that everything would work out.
@halyie By the time of Katherine's death, Henry and Anne had been trying to be together for nearly a decade -- a decade of horrendous stress and grief beyond anything either of them imagined. Henry originally thought it would be a cinch to get a simple annulment from Katherine, legitimately marry Anne, and go on to have several healthy sons with her and live happily ever after, etc. Anne thought this as well -- especially since that's what Henry repeatedly swore to her.
@halyie Unfortunately, things obviously did not go down that way at all, and with such extreme stress on the both of them throughout the entire mess, Anne got more and more desperate and Henry began to blame her for everything that ever went wrong and hate her for the very things he loved about her in the beginning. Not to mention, the power Henry received after he broke away from the Catholic Church completely corrupted and ruined him... in my opinion, he became a complete monster.
@halyie My point is just that Katherine's death was mere months before Anne's execution, and by that point she clearly knew that everything was slipping away from her --but with Katherine gone, Anne's position as queen was finally, officially legitimate, and on top of that, she thought (and was right) she was also carrying the King's son. She knew it was her last chance -- if she gave birth to the heir Henry so desperately wanted, he would never cast Anne off.
@halyie In conclusion... lol. Sorry for the million posts! I just really love this period of history, and have been completely fascinated by Anne Boleyn for years. I definitely don't agree with everything she ever said or did, but it's undeniable that she was an incredibly unique human being, born way before her time. Such an intensely passionate, intelligent, ambitious, and complicated woman -- no wonder Henry fell for her! Too bad he was a complete douchebag.
Historically, the relationship between Henry and his daughter Elizabeth was a close one. They actually wrote plenty letters to one another and she wrote a book in pure Latin for him at some point down the road. Too bad about her mother though. She at least made up for it with her ruthless reign.
@Digigirl3000 I think the real grown up guards could well distinguish a real serious fight with their king in danger from a pretend fight especially if a kid is involved and listen to Henry, it's clear, that he's pretending too for the lil boy's amusement...
@Danny30011980 i meant it as a joke. i knw henry couldn't have been THAT mean...well at least not mean enough to be children in the Tower...except for the Lady of Salisbury's grandson that is...
I'm assuming they took a lot of liberties with the costuming (especially with Queen Anne and her courtiers) for that era. I know Anne was fashion forward for her time and as gorgeous as her headdress is in this scene, is it not too modern for the period? And did noble women wear their hair loose all the time or was it not supposed to be kept in an updo?
@Rayvana Yes and the embroidery was not as elaborate. It was still beautiful but they are moving more toward the Marie Antoinette period. The clothing in that period was absolutely divine. Lol I have an obsession with fashion even in history.
@xlovexothersxalsox Yes! I didn't connect the Marie Antoinette period but now I see it. it started with me watching the women and their hair, constantly seeing it loose and flying (especially with Katherine Howard) and thinking 'that's not correct'. Also, is not the four-cornered head dress the norm for women of that period (often you see Lady Brian wearing it)?
@Rayvana Yes that was what was usually worn. If you look up portraits of every one of Henry's wives none are pictured with their hair flowing like they do in the Tudors. I suppose they had to take some liberties with the outfits to make it more attractive to viewers.
sometimes I feel like Dormer overdoes it a bit with the forceful manner of talking....like 2.37...it makes Anne seem a bit unstable, a bit...mad? Its just my opinion, of course, the impression I got. Though perhaps Anne Boleyn was like that. Though generally I love Natalie Dormer, she's awesome, especially in that scene where she watches her brother die.
What a wonderful scene! I always feel giddy once she begins laughing and spinning around. This is exactly how I would imagine the real Anne Boleyn to act. This woman is some actress!
