it is very hard to get popular on youtube especially for new channels.
although everyone is writing 'check out my channel', i think you should do that (i do that aswell) because the videos might be really good although no one is watching them.
so: check out my channel about photography and comedy!
@hallfighter5 bro but if they buy it its because they want to get in to it, they can learn as they go or take classes, instead of commenting " if you dont know what iso appeture etc. is dont buy a DSLR" you can say, " good for you man, if you need any help, or tips for handeling all the different features message me" or don comment at all bro.
@philippeclement Yup, you never hear most professional complain much when they use a crap camera, its the photographer not the camera that chooses to take the pictures after all. I'm currently saving up for the D5100, It will be my first proper camera ^.^
Got all of the big brother D7000 inside a handy stylish box with practical flip around screen so you can film yourself as i do to show magic tricks on youtube ;-)
@philippeclement I'm hoping to have it soon, about 2 months. Want to have it for April as ill be going to Poland for a month for work experience and the like. Live in the Czech Republic for several years and am very excited and the camera would give me an even bigger reason to just wander around taking pictures.
First time i got my hands on this camera I knew it was for me. I need an increase in megapixels for prints so I knew this would be an awesome upgrade from my ancient d50
I bought a new D5100 a few days ago. I think my battery has a problem. It runs out after about 3-4 hours of use (not continuant) and about 40-60 photos. I mostly use liveview. Plz comment about your D5100's battery life so I can decide if I will make a complaint to the shop. THX.
@New24Age Live view will use up your battery. If you spend a lots of time looking through it (even without taking photos), it will drain the battery. Try using the camera on a full charge without using liveview at all, and compare your results.
@New24Age That's weird. I have had my D5100 for about four months now, & my battery is just fine. I'll charge it until it is fully charged & it will last the entire day with at least one bar left. I would check with the store because that is just not normal. Hope this helps. :)
Well I took more than 700 pics on one day without changing the battery and I think I would get up to perhaps 900 pics before it's empty, but I'm hardly ever using the live view and internal flash.
Does anybody know how long you need to charge the battery prior to getting it? I want my battery to have the maximum strength and I have heard for some cameras you need to charge it for a certain amount of hours? any suggestion?
In my opinion it has an EXCELLENT light meter. Not once in either auto OR manual have I gotten a bad exposure, and HDR... I haven't tried it because I just got it yesterday, but from the images I've seen, it looks very promising.
ganadora, stick with P&S camera, until you learn how to spell right. then perhaps you could consider. And also photography & pictures are indeed the same. Save up and get d7000, you'll get what you pay for. Nice, better images, better body top n rear alloy magnesium..
just checking Nikon’s website now in Japan as I live here, they’re selling it with double lenses (18~55mm/55~300mm)=124.000 yen=1.611 US dollars and with 1 lense (18~55mm)=89.800 yen=1.168 US dollars not included the delivery. D5000 are cheap because of this new model..
Hi. I would love to do Photography with a DSLR camera. I love the quality they produce. Unfortunately i do not have any knowledge on how to operate one well. Any ideas what kind of camera i should get first to start my hobby on photography and then what models to progress on to?
I currently own a 14 mp Samsung digital camera. Thats about it. Thank you.
@hellblazersharif whatever camera you get, you will have to learn primarily through trial and error. (which in my opinion is the best way to learn) i recommend getting one a little bit above your skill set so you can grow into it. I've looked up the specs on the Nikon d5100 and i believe it's a great intro to mid level experience camera. good luck!
whoa! that's crazy awesome, but i'm gonna guess that's not a good camera for beginners with it seeming so complex. what would u recommend for beginners if u don't mind me asking?
there must be a technical explanation for this..that i dont really want to know of..cause cant do vid mode on hd properly is like pissing in the wind..
HOW DO YOU ACHIVE a blurry background( like in some of your photos) ? If I have the 18-55mm (standard lense), can I manually achieve it or will it be their on automatic? please respond! :)
@xxxcarinamxxx To achieve a blurred background you need to create a shallow depth of field. This is done by lowering the aperture to it's lowest settings which gives you the fullest result. To do this go to Aperture priority mode on the selector dial on the left of the top of the camera and go to the Large letter A. After this turn the dial so the number lowers to its lowest setting then take your picture. This will take a picture with a blurred background or an shallow depth of field. Cheers!!!
I kind of have mixed feelings about the button placement, it's nice because I now only need my right hand, but it doesn't feel like a Nikon. I guess it'll grow on me once I actually buy the camera.
I do my filming (myself as a model and reporter) with nikon d5100 and lumix tz7 - the sound is better with lumix tz7 - greetings grom Germany von Elischeba ;-)

Anyone can help me out with my issue regarding this camera? I just bought this D5100 month ago and recently I just found out that the camera doesn't have the "beep" sound while focusing using the manual focus mode (the "beep sound menu " is on and the volume is high)~is it the camera was like that or is there something wrong with my camera~maybe that I adjusted any function that made my camera into such condition? Hi... D90 and D5100 with 18-105 VR kit, cost almost the same nowadays. So which camera would you suggest, if I am all into shooting stills and no videos at all?
Dear Mike and all at WDC. I am a reader of your printed magazine which I like a lot and respect for your useful reviews. I recently bought a D5100 body only and I am very motivated by the 16-85 nikkor lens as an alternative to the kit, because I want to take this seriously. @rawdk There's no full manual control within the movie mode, as the camera automatically overrides any live shutter or aperture adjustment in the Manual setting. I find it funny guys calling a D5100 only an amator's camera as professionals work often with manual settings.
Put the D5100 on manual settings and ... express your true talents ;-)
You will be suprised to see that your limites do not come from the camera but your imagination.
