    Customer Reviews:

Like so many people on here I am new to buying a DSLR and was torn between the so popular D3100 and the new D5100! I did consider the option of the D3100 and spending the change on more kit. In the end I went to a a shop and purchased a D3100 as I wanted to pick up the camera and the cost worked ...

For more details please copy the Amazon link above in your browser

  • how do you get the blurred backgrounds in your pictures? could you do a video on that ?

  • @carries90 you do that using aperture adjustment whatever you focus on is clear and objects farther out are blurred

  • @NONNIE357 yes i am not understanding.. ive tried multiple times. i guess i need someone to visually show me..

  • Can anyone please tell me if this camera comes with the guide mode?

  • how is this versus the Canon T3i?

  • Canon>Nikon

  • @hallfighter5 dude, so not cool.

  • Can you tell me the hood's name, please?

  • @hallfighter5 I bought one. The D3100.

I STILL don't know what those are... :(

  • @chalashirae dont worry about it :D It doesnt take that long to learn the basics.

  • @hallfighter5 bro but if they buy it its because they want to get in to it, they can learn as they go or take classes, instead of commenting " if you dont know what iso appeture etc. is dont buy a DSLR" you can say, " good for you man, if you need any help, or tips for handeling all the different features message me" or don comment at all bro.

  • @hallfighter5 Why do you care?

  • I was sold the moment I saw what this baby can do.

Don't even need to finish the review.

    I WANT IT.

  • SONY>CANON>NIKON

  • i love the color select mode and the miniature mode, very awesome.

  • Fine i'll say it...(ahem)

    BUT WILL IT BLEND?

  • Just bought it yesterday and i freeking love it!

  • hey can you please tell me how you uploaded the d5100 footage because I'm trying and it will not let me. Thanks

  • Just wondering, how far is the zoom? and does it take away from the quality?

  • I find it funny guys calling a D5100 only an amator's camera as professionals work often with manual settings.

Put the D5100 on manual settings and ... express your true talents ;-)

You will be suprised to see that your limites do not come from the camera but your imagination.

Great camera, got it recently and had a previous Minolta XG-9 of the 80's .... with strict minimum settings.

  • @philippeclement Yup, you never hear most professional complain much when they use a crap camera, its the photographer not the camera that chooses to take the pictures after all. I'm currently saving up for the D5100, It will be my first proper camera ^.^

  • @3oTooLe

You wont regret the choice !!!

Got all of the big brother D7000 inside a handy stylish box with practical flip around screen so you can film yourself as i do to show magic tricks on youtube ;-)

  • @philippeclement I'm hoping to have it soon, about 2 months. Want to have it for April as ill be going to Poland for a month for work experience and the like. Live in the Czech Republic for several years and am very excited and the camera would give me an even bigger reason to just wander around taking pictures.

  • Thank youu soo muuchh :)

  • bought my d5100, was stpefied to find out in video mode you can't control it manually

  • @hallfighter5 and if you dont know what that is??

  • Nikon > Canon

  • @naijanded hands down

  • Nice review. Surprised to see you using the 24-120VR lens which is a known dog of a lens in terms of sharpness.

  • I've had mine a few weeks now still getting used to it an loving it.

  • im confused betwee d5100 and d90 ! help please :)

  • @FatmaOmar26 my suggestion go for D5100, the improved sensor, image quality exactly same as D7000, and less in price as well (than D90) =)

  • I just got it yesterday. I FREAKING LOVE IT.

and it was worth a half year with saving money for it!!!

  • I can't wait to get mine!

  • does this camera have bulb mode?

  • @dodadooful: Yes it does have a bulb mode.

  • Check out my pictures with the Nikon D5100 on my Channel!!

  • I have 1 and I adore it

  • First time i got my hands on this camera I knew it was for me. I need an increase in megapixels for prints so I knew this would be an awesome upgrade from my ancient d50

  • The effects are crap. You use them once or twice and thats it. Thay are just a marketing gimmick.

  • i will buy one tomorrow ;)))

  • @lagirly88 Do you like it so far?? I have this camera too. It's amazing. I love it! (:

  • I bought a new D5100 a few days ago. I think my battery has a problem. It runs out after about 3-4 hours of use (not continuant) and about 40-60 photos. I mostly use liveview. Plz comment about your D5100's battery life so I can decide if I will make a complaint to the shop. THX.

  • @New24Age Live view will use up your battery. If you spend a lots of time looking through it (even without taking photos), it will drain the battery. Try using the camera on a full charge without using liveview at all, and compare your results.

    Hope that helps

  • @New24Age That seems weird. That doesn't happen to my D5100.

  • @New24Age That's weird. I have had my D5100 for about four months now, & my battery is just fine. I'll charge it until it is fully charged & it will last the entire day with at least one bar left. I would check with the store because that is just not normal. Hope this helps. :)

  • @New24Age

Well I took more than 700 pics on one day without changing the battery and I think I would get up to perhaps 900 pics before it's empty, but I'm hardly ever using the live view and internal flash.

  • D90 or D5100? I'm sure this question has been asked before....opinions?

  • @TheWyntaks D90 is ranked above the D5100.

  • Love mine

  • Does anybody know how long you need to charge the battery prior to getting it? I want my battery to have the maximum strength and I have heard for some cameras you need to charge it for a certain amount of hours? any suggestion?

  • Wow. I want this camera!

Roughly how much is it? [In the UK]

  • @EP2504 You can get it for £560 at Digital Rev, but its around £600+ on amazon, jessops, etc.

  • Effects mode: Basically unusable. Nothing worth having.

  • In my opinion it has an EXCELLENT light meter. Not once in either auto OR manual have I gotten a bad exposure, and HDR... I haven't tried it because I just got it yesterday, but from the images I've seen, it looks very promising.

  • yesssss

  • ganadora, stick with P&S camera, until you learn how to spell right. then perhaps you could consider. And also photography & pictures are indeed the same. Save up and get d7000, you'll get what you pay for. Nice, better images, better body top n rear alloy magnesium..

  • I am steel thinking if i should buy this camara :3 I just want it for fotography and pictures but i dont know it's high quality

  • Can you give us the specifications for the lens you were using with nikon-d5100 in this video. Thanks in advance.

  • the back of this nikon camera looks exactly like a canon powershot a620 camera

    thanks for the video

  • I have that camera and I LOVE IT

  • which lens were you using with nikonD5100. Can you pls let me know the specification and cost.

  • should i get this camera?... i want a middle range dslr... 2nd o the high end one....

  • can you adjust the shutter speed on this d5100

  • how much minutes/hours can you record up too on a 8gb SD card?

  • @TheArtHippy on a 32gb in full HD mines do 21mins

  • @Alltalentshows dang, that's not enough. Well thanks for replying! :)

  • which one would you recommend..

    Sony a35 VS nikon d5100.

picture quality is important, this would be my first DSLR.

  • @sherryrafique A55 or this one ! :-)

  • just checking Nikon’s website now in Japan as I live here, they’re selling it with double lenses (18~55mm/55~300mm)=124.000 yen=1.611 US dollars and with 1 lense (18~55mm)=89.800 yen=1.168 US dollars not included the delivery. D5000 are cheap because of this new model..

  • should i get it?

  • Hi. I would love to do Photography with a DSLR camera. I love the quality they produce. Unfortunately i do not have any knowledge on how to operate one well. Any ideas what kind of camera i should get first to start my hobby on photography and then what models to progress on to?

I currently own a 14 mp Samsung digital camera. Thats about it. Thank you.

  • @hellblazersharif whatever camera you get, you will have to learn primarily through trial and error. (which in my opinion is the best way to learn) i recommend getting one a little bit above your skill set so you can grow into it. I've looked up the specs on the Nikon d5100 and i believe it's a great intro to mid level experience camera. good luck!

  • @heyitsjordansmith what about the EOS 550D? thanks for replying anyways :) im kinda deciding between the 2.

  • does it make good quality pictures with a lens which comes with it ?

  • wtf u speak hell knws!

i dnt understand a word of urs..u dumbass!

  • I FUCKING LOVE IT!

  • @SkateBlogzMB

    Me too!

  • what lens did you have on in the video???

  • You're cute.

  • Nikon 5100 OR Canon EOS 600D - Which is better?

  • @MEPIX1 Go for Nikon D5100. You wont regret.

  • والله مو فاهمه ولا شي .. انا هذيك البنت ياللي اتراسل معك بالمسنجر ههههههه يوم تعلمني عن الكام نيكون ههههههه اللي بقيمزرهع

  • I just got this camera and I love it especially the miniature effect!(:

I used to have a point and shoot camera that was pretty bad quality and now my pictures turn out so much nicer

  • Would this be a good camera for video recording Biking and other quick sports?

  • whoa! that's crazy awesome, but i'm gonna guess that's not a good camera for beginners with it seeming so complex. what would u recommend for beginners if u don't mind me asking?

  • @erickav808 I would recommend the sony A33, great transitional camera from point and shoot to dslr.

  • Setting Manual Exposure for Nikon D5100 in Movie Mode

    youtube.com/watch?v=9x5eZN43Kuc&NR=1

  • there must be a technical explanation for this..that i dont really want to know of..cause cant do vid mode on hd properly is like pissing in the wind..

  • HOW DO YOU ACHIVE a blurry background( like in some of your photos) ? If I have the 18-55mm (standard lense), can I manually achieve it or will it be their on automatic? please respond! :)

  • @xxxcarinamxxx To achieve a blurred background you need to create a shallow depth of field. This is done by lowering the aperture to it's lowest settings which gives you the fullest result. To do this go to Aperture priority mode on the selector dial on the left of the top of the camera and go to the Large letter A. After this turn the dial so the number lowers to its lowest setting then take your picture. This will take a picture with a blurred background or an shallow depth of field. Cheers!!!

  • @leonj1000 Thank you so much!! :D

  • @leonj1000 piece of cake =P i quite liked the way u explained (i knew it earlier though) hehe

  • Can I use my AF-S lens with this camera, jessops states that the lens fitting is AFD, where on the D90 it says AF-S and AFD

  • Hi, thanx for the video, its really wt i was looking for. But if i m comparing the d5100 with d90, which one do you recommend? plz i need your help!!

  • Plz relpy what lens were you using on the d5100

  • I kind of have mixed feelings about the button placement, it's nice because I now only need my right hand, but it doesn't feel like a Nikon. I guess it'll grow on me once I actually buy the camera.

  • I do my filming (myself as a model and reporter) with nikon d5100 and lumix tz7 - the sound is better with lumix tz7 - greetings grom Germany von Elischeba ;-)

  • @Nedolya7 if I'm not mistaken, it has the same in-lens autofocus system as the D3100, which basically means that if you don't have a lens with a built-in AF motor, it won't autofocus.

  • Were all the images taken with the kit lens?

  • Bad to review with those lenses on. That does not come with the camera. derr

  • In the menu screen, there is a place to turn "image comment" on. I inserted a comment, but it isnt showing up on my pics. Am I missing the concept of this completely? I assumed that feature displayed a comment on your photos.

  • Anyone can help me out with my issue regarding this camera? I just bought this D5100 month ago and recently I just found out that the camera doesn't have the "beep" sound while focusing using the manual focus mode (the "beep sound menu " is on and the volume is high)~is it the camera was like that or is there something wrong with my camera~maybe that I adjusted any function that made my camera into such condition? Anyone can help me out? thx

  • @LoverGuardian i just got this camera today, i thought that but turns out different modes change the sound i.e. putting it into flash mode uses the focus noise whereas putting it into sport mode mutes the focus noise. well if this is not the case then your camera could be broken or slightly damaged. hope this helps!

  • Yes it does have flash, I don't think there are any cameras without flash these days, actually

  • does this camera have a built in flash like the d3100.. I planning to get one and I am leaning towards the d3100 because of the flash but i like this camera because of the effects modes..

  • awesum review....was confused between this n the d7000.....prefer this its simpler easier, smaller, lighter with the same quality.....thanx :)

  • Japan Nikon never promised about manual control in d5100... only gossip and rumor loving pp in States who predicted manual control capability of d5100

  • i saw your both video reviews on nikon D5100 and also Sony SLT A33 so i want to know which one is better for me,i am a beginner photographer so will go for a new one suggest me which one is better

  • The nikon D5100 suck if you can't use full manual control within the movie mode.

  • Dear Santa...

  • Dear Mike and all at WDC. I am a reader of your printed magazine which I like a lot and respect for your useful reviews. I recently bought a D5100 body only and I am very motivated by the 16-85 nikkor lens as an alternative to the kit, because I want to take this seriously. Would you advice me to go for the 18-200 instead?

    Thanks a bunch

    JM

  • Nikon D5100 or Canon Rebel T3i / EOS 600D ?

  • No video with manual control. Nikon, what are you doing?...

  • Hi I hear you can't Manual Expose for video with the D5100, is this true?

  • @rawdk There's no full manual control within the movie mode, as the camera automatically overrides any live shutter or aperture adjustment in the Manual setting. In other priority modes it is possible to use the AE-L (for focus and/or exposure lock) and the exposure compensation buttons that both help to enhance control to some degree.

  • @WhatDigitalCamera How is the sound quality without the mic??? And how would you rate the quality settings on this camera???

  • Comment removed

  • @rawdk No..

  • @rawdk That wouldn't be possible. So, no.

  • Had sound issues with the first upload of this video, hence the re-upload...

  • what lens is on the nikon d5100?

  • @sheshewantit45 It's a Nikon 24-120 f/3.5-5.6G VR

  • Not bad for a camera in that price range :)

It really goes fast in the DSLR 's. In the three years I own mine step in model.. allot of new sensor technology, filming in full hd, SLT's.. has shown up.

  • i want D300 can someone give me one pleas
