All the Canadiens that come to Boston become Bostonians in a heartbeat and thats why Boston could be the greatest sports town in North America not only in this century but of all time.OK.Let the comments come but there is to much ammunition at this point to even argue about it.
I just wanted to add that most of east coast Canada were pulling for the Bruins to win the cup because there were more Canadian players on Boston than Vancouver. In point of fact we called the Canucks of last year team Sweden and didn,t consider them to be real Canucks at all as you need to be born and raised here to acquire that handle. Stan Johnathan, John Wensick and and Terry O,Reilly were also from here. I saw Patrice Bergeron-Cleary when he played for Acadie-Bathurst Titan in the QMJHL
The Boston Bruins were crap until they picked up Bobby Orr from the Oshawa Generals, Derek Sanderson from the Niagara falls Flyers and Chicago gave them Phil Esposito, Ken Hodge, John McKenzie, Don Awrey, Fred Stanfield in possibly the worst trade in Hockey history to go along with John Bucyk, Ed Westfall, Wayne Cashman, Dallas Smith, Gary Doak, Eddie Shack and Gerry Cheevers. Everyone of them Canadian. That,s why they were so great! This year they had 17 Canadians when they won the Stanley Cup.
Real fighters with minimum respect wouldn't hit his opponent when he's laid on the ice with head down. What probably cut Bouchard's head his the last 2 punches when his head couldn't move back...
jesus christ if this fight happened nowadays this entire forum would be littered with pussy fans spewing off about the extra couple stan threw at the end. those were real fights back then
Anyone who thinks the outcome of this fight would have had a diffrent out come if jonathans helemt was off get fuckin real dosnt change the fact that dude got his face bashed in and if u watch theres no time for him to get his helmet off that guy still didnt land any shots GO BRUINS! SUCK IT HABS
@cloud9870 You don't know what you're talking about. Bouchard was big but not tough. Jonathan was small and very tough. About as one-sided a fight as you'll see.
@fernmann7 You obviously didn't watch hockey back then. Pierre Bouchard was very tough. He just didn't fight often because not many people wanted to fight him. He beat the piss out of Dave Schultz in the playoffs, and beat up Wayne Cashman of the Bruins during a brawl in October of 75. He also had a great fight with a guy named Mike Bloom that played for the Caps. It was as one of the best fights I saw as a kid.
@BoSoxnation1972 Watched Fred Cusick, heard here, with Johnny Piersen on Ch. 38 through the 70s on a cabinet-style Motorolla color TV from my parents living room in New Bedford, Mass. Couldn't help but notice your Red Sox name, so I assume you anticipate a great season. As for Bouchard, he wasn't known as a fighter, and I watched this fight on the very TV i just mentioned. The Bruins lost to the Habs in the '77 and '78 FInals, the 77. I would have been 16. Long time ago.
@fernmann7 I was at the game, & as I stated, Bouchard was tough. He didn't fight very often, nor did Larry Robinson. But both men were tough and respected. As I said, Bouchard really pounded Dave Schultz in the playoffs, and Dave was one of the top goons in the league.
Jonathan was giving away more than 6 inches and 30 pounds to Bouchard. Perhaps you should take a look at Bouchard's fight with Cashman if you don't think Pierre was tough. Wayyne was tough as nails, and got hammered by Bouchard.
Not alot of people know this but all that blood came from the ref's skate slicing bouchard's head not the punches! It was the ref coming in from the right look close.
@sonofsalmon56 No...Jonathan nailed him and Bouchard admitted that.He basically got clocked. It wasn`t a skate.Jonathan also mentioned that when Bouchard threw his punches. He slammed Jonathan.Jonathan said he felt those punches for three days.Jonathan said he could have been on the opposite side and was just simply tougher. That was just an all out battle.
@openedup09 I didnt say he didnt rock him or get ko'ed by the punches, but the huge cut that he got after he was out on the ice was from the ref's skate! My old man got in the locker room that night and found out from the official scorer who was his boy, that it was indeed from a skate. Watch the ref's left skate come in hot on his head.
@sonofsalmon56 Oh ok that sounds fair enough. If the skate caused that accident.I`ll take your word for it.I just saw that first right hand into his nose and when Jonathan caught him with that left when he switch hands. It was good enough to beleive that Jonathan acutally caused that much blood. Some comments also mentioned that Bouchard got that cut from hitting his head off the ice. That I don`t believe.
@openedup09 Yeah when stan switched hands it was that straight left that decked bouchard. I grew up on hearing how tought that sob was from my dad and papu they had seats as long as i can remember and stan johnathan was god when it came to mixing it up if you asked them two! The ability to use both hands in a hockey fight is like fighting someone without a weapon and your holding a club.
@sonofsalmon56 It funny how certain debates can come up on something with such a gladiating effect. Its fun and it is almost a necessity for the human nature.Blood gore and victory. The human nature feels they need that. The reason I say this is because Bouchard was no bum and he just underestimated the likes of Jonathan.Jonathan was one of the most explosive fighters in the NHL and this fight proved that.Watch what he did against Lorimer from the Islanders in the 1980 playoffs.
@sonofsalmon56 Dipshit, Bouchard had no cut on his head. Jonathan broke Bouchard's nose. And the blood on the ref is actually the refs blood. Terry O'Reilly's stick clipped John D'Amico as the melee broke out, and John had to get 14 stitches after the game.
Google "NHL fightclub Jonathan vs. Bouchard" and you can read an interview with both men who met for a charity event and talked about the fight. No skate was involved, so you can tell your old man he is full of shit. Thanks Booster! LMAO
I was about 80 feet from the fight, above the glass. Clear view. The helmet had nothing to do with it. You told me in a private email you weren't born even then, but you'll believe Bouchard's whiny statement. Well, I WAS born before then, but not the night before!!

@gravino555 ofcourse bouchard will say sumtin like that he has to come up wit sum kind of excuse for get his faced knocked in and bleeding all over the ice....and besides wat does a helmet have to do with anything wat is he goin to do punch him in the forehead lol...the place that he needed to hit were well exposed his nose and his chin...jus like the news and tv bud dont believe everything u see or hear
@gravino555 make up another reason the bruins are better hmmmm well if u look at wat i wrote i didnt put anything in there about the bruins or the habs i jus simply put that bouchard is goin to make excusses for gettin dropped and bleeding on the ice as bad as he did and your one of the few idoits who believed him.
@gravino555 i will say it again ofcourse he will make a excuse for losing the fight. helmet or no helmet the punches would of been the same and watch it again bouchard took 6-7 solid punches to the chin doesnt say much for johnathen punch power but it does say alot for bouchards chin but still bouchard lost period
@gravino555 heres a reason the Bruins are better than the Canadiens other than kicking your asses in all the fights, WE BEAT YOU IN 7 GAMES ON OUR WAY TO WINNING LORD STANLEYS CUP! how you like them apples!lol!
1) Jonathon's helmet had nothing to do with his winning the fight. Bouchard (obvious in the video) never even hit his helmet AND Jonathon dooped him when he switched hands and caught him square with, I believe, the cheekbone-breaking SOLID RIGHT!
2) Bobby Orr had at least 20 major fights...at least 5 or 6 with Keith Magnuson (who just never learned his lesson!) NEVER LOST ONE!
no, bouchard even said it in a press conference that if jonathan had no helmet he would be dead and jonathan caught him right in the nose with the last punch so please go study up, i wasnt even born when this happened.
Jonathan 5 ft 7 and 185. One mean tough hard hitting s.o.b. Reminds me of Vancouver's Rypien, only rick is 5-11 and 180. Stan one of the toughest ver.. and not just opound fo rpound. I LOVED those old Bruins/Habs, Bruins/Flyers games
Part 2: Later, Scotty Bowman was yapping at Jonathan over the glass between the benches and Jonathan blew him a kiss from his bench seat. Anyhow, on the next shift, I saw Bowman tap Pierre on the shoulder and off he went, directly to Jonathan from the Montreal bench. The whistle stopped play and I saw Bouchard give Stan the butt-end. The rest is history (including Bouchard who turned into a mouse after that one).
Part 1: I was at that one and saw everything leading up to the donnybrook! I even have a series of 16 action photos I took from the 12th row. It started early in the game when Bouchard tweaked Stan behind the knees a couple of times (ala the Russian's favorite tactic in those days).
I met Pierre Bouchard back in 1992 at Windsor Station in Montreal.First thing I asked him was,'Talked to your friend Jonathan lateley?' Luckily he has a sense of humour because we shook hands and his hands are like canned hams. And they say that players were smaller 20,30,40 years ago?...BULLSHIT.
LOL - "earth to Bouchard - earth to Bouchard". Yooo hoooo - wake up, little rosebud!! ROFL Bouchard did a nice job of blocking a lot of those punches with his face!
manofconstantsorrow is a joke....european football is a gay sport thats only played by poor people..hence its popular in third world countries..how can anyone like a 1-0 game???...its a complete waste of time and doesnt take any skill...i pity you europeans cuz of your lack of hygeine and your gutless sports..come crying to the west when you need us to save your ass again like you did in both world wars..wimps
You might want to pick up a book. The crucial battle of WWII was Stalingrad. It was the turning point of the war, and it was won by the Russians. It is true that we did play a key role, but it is unfair to say we won the war for the Allies.
this has nothing to do with hockey "but the major turning point of WWII was the Battle of Britain. Hitlers first major defeat and the end to his dream of global domination. No other battle in WWII was so pivotal"...get your facts straight and try again...
Hitler wasn't defeated in the battle of Britain. It was an air campaign (not a ground war). His intent was to soften them until they surrendered. Although he abandoned the campaign, he didn't loose. It was a more of a stalemate. "Pivotal" not a chance. Before Stalingrad Hitler was on the offensive while Europe was on the defensive. Tell me what happened after Stalingrad? get YOUR facts right.
manofconstantsorrow: you're comments about the USA are hilarious....how can you say that our nation is a laughing stock when you are from poland? POLAND!? LOL fuck outta here....are you unaware of all of the polish jokes out there pertaining to the stupidity of all you dirty pollacks? for instance: did you hear about the pollack who won a gold medal in the olympics and then had it bronzed?
Pound for pound, Johnathon was the best fighter the NHL ever saw. He was amazing. He took anyone on face-to-face. Even if his opponent was much bigger than him. Like Bouchard was.
The Killer B's rule. There's no better hockey team, especially when it comes to roughing it up a little.
LOL Canadians & Americans argue over who invented this stupid game. The best & most popular sport in the world is football (of course european soccer not that stupid game with ball in the shape of egg). You know why? Cause we play ball, not fight.
Hokcey - game very popular in 2 nations in the world ;) C'mon, more popluar are chess... But that's your problem north america... You're weird people... I'm not only talkin' bout sports but also music, politics etc... North america is a laughin stock in the eyes of the rest of the world. Sad but true. Cheers!
i didnt say hockey was the most popular sport its popular here because we like manly sports that are physical and all of europe loves their soccer which i find extremely boring unless your playing it. and the US is the laughing stock of the world not north america
You really believe that watchin hockey will make you a man? I pity you. I bet you also think that your kids watchin wrestlin are more masculine that guys over here in Europe ;) You see, we don't need to compensate manhood complex by watchin 'manly' sports, like you do. Cheers!
Hey manofconstantsorrow! Hockey is only popular in two countries? Where have you been hibernating all these years? How is famous worldwide you dip shit.
As far as the comment on America and Americans is concerned. If our country and if we are so bad, why does everyone want to come here and live? And when there's trouble, whatever it may be, call the USA to solve it. You can't even fight your own fucking battles.
that's why we invented the game...look at some of the best hockey players...Canadian...Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr, Howe, Yzerman, Messier, Coffey, Bourque....need i say anymore?
HAHAHA. Are you joking? Take a look at ANY hockey game, more then 50% of the players are CANADIAN. Look at any of the fighters, there's an even higher % of enforcers that are Canadian. Canadians run hockey, its our sport and it always will be, if you don't like it go play soccer.
nice comeback duster, if it wasnt for canada there woudlnt even be hockey and the nhl would be reduced to some shit league that would be almost as bad as what you probably play.
hahahaha, I'm not that good no.. But I can play and I do play. And NO, we aren't good in Sweden, but we've got some good from here also.. So please, NHL isn't because of you shity Canadian hockey players, careface on you all!
dream on buddy canada is far from shitty, i really have nothing against sweden i like a lot of swedish players but im obviously going to go for canada
Clark Gillies did the same thing to Johnathon the following year.Bouchard wasn't a fighter, actually he rarely fought. There are vids on you tube with Johnathon getting hammered.Check out Gillies Johnathon--Walker Johnathon

@brsfan66 I attended a hockey game at Boston Garden in 76'. Sitting in the
seats in front of me where Dave Cowans of the Celtics and Fred Lynn of the sox.
Mute testamony to what a tight sports community they had , Of course all Boston
teams were in the thick of the playoffs in BB , hoops and hockey during those years.

Don't know if anyone else noticed...Jonathan, Wensink and O'Reilly on the ice at the same time. 3 toughest Bruins ever (Miller too)

manofconstantsorrow is a joke....european football is a gay sport thats only played by poor people..hence its popular in third world countries..how can anyone like a 1-0 game???...its a complete waste of time and doesnt take any skill...i pity you europeans cuz of your lack of hygeine and your gutless sports..come crying to the west when you need us to save your ass again like you did in both world wars..wimps
45skyfire 2 years ago
You might want to pick up a book. The crucial battle of WWII was Stalingrad. It was the turning point of the war, and it was won by the Russians. It is true that we did play a key role, but it is unfair to say we won the war for the Allies.
fxE20170 2 years ago
this has nothing to do with hockey "but the major turning point of WWII was the Battle of Britain.

GET RID OF THE MUSIC!!! It's STUPID AND it SUCKS and screws up the fight!!
Arment24 2 years ago
Pound for pound, Johnathon was the best fighter the NHL ever saw. He was amazing. He took anyone on face-to-face. Even if his opponent was much bigger than him. Like Bouchard was.
The Killer B's rule. There's no better hockey team, especially when it comes to roughing it up a little.

LOL Canadians & Americans argue over who invented this stupid game. The best & most popular sport in the world is football (of course european soccer not that stupid game with ball in the shape of egg). You know why? Cause we play ball, not fight.
manofconstantsorrow 2 years ago
european football is full of a bunch of pussies. thats why we like hockey over here
jburlako 2 years ago
Hokcey - game very popular in 2 nations in the world ;) C'mon, more popluar are chess... But that's your problem north america... You're weird people... I'm not only talkin' bout sports but also music, politics etc... North america is a laughin stock in the eyes of the rest of the world. Sad but true. Cheers!
manofconstantsorrow 2 years ago
i didnt say hockey was the most popular sport its popular here because we like manly sports that are physical and all of europe loves their soccer which i find extremely boring unless your playing it. and the US is the laughing stock of the world not north america
jburlako 2 years ago
All I got to say is.....GET INTO A MANLY SPORT PUSSY
HaLoMaKeR123 2 years ago
You really believe that watchin hockey will make you a man? I pity you. I bet you also think that your kids watchin wrestlin are more masculine that guys over here in Europe ;) You see, we don't need to compensate manhood complex by watchin 'manly' sports, like you do. Cheers!
manofconstantsorrow 2 years ago
I don't watch it, I play it. I don't think my kids will be more masculin then European kids, I know it.
HaLoMaKeR123 2 years ago
hahaha u dumbass
hordichuck 2 years ago
Hey manofconstantsorrow! Hockey is only popular in two countries? Where have you been hibernating all these years? How is famous worldwide you dip shit.
As far as the comment on America and Americans is concerned. If our country and if we are so bad, why does everyone want to come here and live? And when there's trouble, whatever it may be, call the USA to solve it. You can't even fight your own fucking battles.
Want respect, learn to respect.

top goalies too....Brodeur, Roy, Sawchuk...man...Canada is hockey!

that's why we invented the game...look at some of the best hockey players...Canadian...Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr, Howe, Yzerman, Messier, Coffey, Bourque....need i say anymore?

This is why Canadiens need to stick to drinking beer and fishing and not fighting. Hockey is a man's game which leaves them out - lol.

You're a retard. Try one of the first six. Do you even know anything about hockey? Go watch baseball.
Nb1320 2 years ago
HAHAHA. Are you joking? Take a look at ANY hockey game, more then 50% of the players are CANADIAN. Look at any of the fighters, there's an even higher % of enforcers that are Canadian. Canadians run hockey, its our sport and it always will be, if you don't like it go play soccer.
leafsrule16 2 years ago
are you joking? you are a bitch and I bet you can't even play hockey.
Kreptiuz 2 years ago
nice comeback duster, if it wasnt for canada there woudlnt even be hockey and the nhl would be reduced to some shit league that would be almost as bad as what you probably play.
leafsrule16 2 years ago
hahahaha, I'm not that good no.. But I can play and I do play. And NO, we aren't good in Sweden, but we've got some good from here also.. So please, NHL isn't because of you shity Canadian hockey players, careface on you all!
