hey man i have a 83 2203 and im just not getting what i want from it, id like to change the tubes and im stuck between the 6550s and the kt88s
ive herd good and bad about both and im stuck, i play metal and like having the lowend and alot of umphhhhh!!! im leaning twards the kt88s but gosh i with they had places to go where you could bring ur amp and try tubes out to see what ones you like best, oh well hopefuly you can help, thanks man
my friend has the 1981 REd version 2203 . good amp. I have a Closet flassic. Never used or less than 100 hours if that . I put NOS TESLA EL34s for itsd from "ENG" on the tag and all NOS MULLARDS and a couple of Anlogman 3403d 14 prong chip and push/pull mods
ALSO I would try some diff EQing there . I like how your looking fvor the right tone though. I f I get a chance ill be back with my setup (EQing if you care . it sounds dead on EAT M AND smile" STEVE VAI 1987
im looking for a jimmy page/joe perry/ted nugent tone mixed all together LOL thats gonna be fucking hard to get but just wondering what do you id need to do to a jcm 800 to achieve that tone or what amp would i get
I have mod prices on my website and the description up about tells you which mods this amp has done to it. Feel free to shoot me an email if you have any questions on the prcing. I offer discounts for multiple mods if you get several things done to the amp at one time.
I like the vht Deliverance but, way out of my budget same as the vintage modern but, the vintage modern doesn't use KT88's, The vintage modern uses KT66 which is what Marshall used originally before switching to EL34's. i more looking at the Bugera line of Valve amps at the moment sense there more in my budget range.
You can't change the Vintage Modern tubes to KT88's due to the primary impedance differences in the output transformer. You can use only two KT88's in the VM.
This amp has my Ultimate 80's mod and KT88 power tubes. It has a few other options listed in the video description box. I have prices on my website FJA Mods. Shoot me an email if you have any other questions.
Wow, that's some of the sweetest hi-gain tone i've ever heard!

@FJAMods Whats your website. I own the same amp and want some work done to it for some more bite and gain.

Nice tone.
What did you bias the KT88s to? Did you need to swap out the bias resistor(s)?
Cheers!
Clammy69 2 years ago
dam dude... i wish i had the money to do that... and the skill
wern1440 3 years ago
to be honest. this is the only one time FAVORITE amp mod that FJA has done, hearing that slide heavey riff on 00:24 was very hot tonewise.
budubum 3 years ago
Can you swap out the tubes by yourself or do you have to have a pro do it?
Like that marshall high gain
ultimateguitar553 3 years ago
Whenever you change power tubes you need to set the bias. If you can't do it yourself then you should take the amp to a tech.

FilthyInsomniac,Try a Vintage Modern or a VHT Deliverance. They both use KT88's.Then you can hear them for yourself.good luck.
