  • The beginning reminds my of "Pull me Under" from Dream Theater.

"This world is spinning around me and

This world is spinning without me and

Every day sends future to past

Every breath leaves me one less to my last"

    Are they influenced by them?

  • @GeFlixes Ah yes, plus: They're good.

    And I'm 17. Male

  • Comment removed

  • @GeFlixes Other influences may or may not include Queensryche (singing style), Yngwie Malmsteen and Symphony X. That said I think of these guys more as a prog rock band.

  • @SGRev1 It is because all the underage kids put their age on youtube like that. Some videos are blocked for under 18.

  • @Kemusika You're kind of right. I initially wanted to pretend to be 25, but I guess my honesty overtook me!

  • @SGRev1 I'm 25 and female... :-P

  • @missing4 It's actually good to see some females listening to Shadow Gallery as well as males. I was actually listening to Shadow Gallery with a 17-year-old girl this morning.

  • @missing4 Actually, let me correct that: 16-year-old girl. She's not my GF, in case you're wondering.

  • Πολύ καλό..!

  • in honor of Mike Baker. October 29th.

  • @shadowgallery He is missed.

  • Is it just me or does the intro to On the Backs of Angels sound like the intro to this song?

  • Πούτσα!

  • amazing song from an amazing band :)

  • This song is PURE MAGIC!

  • Man Brendt Allman is such an underrated guitarist. Just listen to that solo!

  • hell yes prog!

  • This music is revolting. I used to listen to this type of music...don't know what in the name of the good lord was wrong with me. Thank God for the aging process.

  • @afhst3 While people's tastes vary and that's fine, what about this is so "revolting"? This is a fine song.

  • how about instead of bitching about what prog metal is vs. power/thrash metal, lets just chill and listen to some great music with actual TALENT.

  • progressive metal is the pretty way of saying "metal fusion with strange time signatures and odd time changes"

  • I love the picture (and the song <3)! Why didn't I listened to these guys sooner?

  • this band is 100% AMAZING. Their music is outstanding!

  • I haveto say that I agree with marc4770.. I don't mean that it would be a bad thing but anyway. (Also listening Tool)

  • 5:35 HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!!

  • stumbled to this band... and it's great!!!

  • oh, wow! this is fantastic!

  • Mike Baker was easily one of the best singers in rock history. The Tyranny album for example is proof enough.

  • kinda reminds me of dt

  • I wanna love you, wanna take you into my heart!

  • One of the Best Bands ever!!

    R.I.P. Michael!!!

  • RIP Mike :( Miss you.

  • i'll admit when this song first started up i thought it sounded like power metal to me

  • That is the most magical guitar solo of all time.

  • R.I.P Mike Baker. You will walk in castles of gold now.

  • Why dont just everyone listen to it or dont! without judging each other!

Either prog. or power, or anything, it still is a great song!

  • Hey guys you want prog? Check out Circus Maximus! :)

  • is the new singer any good?

  • A seriously underrated band. Had all the right tools........

  • :) Amazing song ! <3

  • With a risk of being flamed by the hardcore fans of this band...I love the new album. The new singer is better imo. Their old singer was great, but a bit too mellow. Shame he died though. :(

  • Reminds me of Awake by Dream theater, which is a very good thing.

  • never heard this band before. sounds like a mix of stratovarius, symphony x and dream theater. i like it :D

  • mariadelmarmallorquin. com

Come to my Blog if you wanna hear great progressive, Rock, Metal etc.

  • Wonderful.

  • I got here because I was looking for V for Vendetta info and I read something about the band' name origin ...XD really a great band...

  • Some guy mentioned this in a DT thread in /mu/ I am thoroughly impressed.

  • kai gamo ta tragoudia!!

  • gonna see them live tomorrow!! =)

  • I just heard this.... Live, 2 hours ago ! Jeez. Unique.

  • right on! this is prog baby, love Shadow Gallery can't believe I never heard of them before

  • i like this better than Melodic Power Metal. feel good

  • This is a wonder ! I don't say anything....

This is my fav. band with Dream Theater & old Queensryche !

Long live prog rock/ metal !

  • unbelievable song... 100000000000000000 likes from me...

  • Too bad no one ever uploaded Stiletto In The Sand/War For Sale.

  • It is clear that this is a very progresive metal band... the battery, the rythms, everythings tells you "this is progresive music!!!!!!!!!!"

  • @gerdfernandez "the battery" = love it! (i wonder how many people realize you're referring to the drumming!)

  • viva mexico cabrones y el proggressive

  • token en vivo cabronesss demuestren lo ke son ......buenisimossss me kedo con el tyranyyy is the best.... long live the tyrany... 2pt

  • shadow gallery is a breat underrated band. dream theater at least is a little unknown in mainstream but shadow gallery almost nothing and this band is really great.

  • @buchock246

Not to mention no live plays, making it harder for them to gain some fame. Just recently they started to play live. But mainstream isn't all bad. Some bands do good with attention. Personally, if I love it and feel its something I can listen for ears to come and then some, its great. Iron Maiden has gotten lots of attention and they are still strong, with a new album coming up too. R.I.P. Mike Baker

  • 3:22 - best guitar solo ever

  • Fantastic song,It gives me a lot of emotions!

  • Comment removed

  • I consider them: Prog-heavy

Prog for their superb compositions, the times, the structure and evolution of their masterpieces

Heavy for their guitar sound, the clearest example is CLIFFHANGER! one of the most wonderful heavy solos that i've ever heard, hardly impressive for tecnique and expression.

One of the most creative prog metal bands ever!

    Rip Baker, we miss you!

  • @Huskymotard88

this music is good, but it is definitely not hard

  • a hymn among the progressive heavy bands.. GREAT SONG

  • My Friend Introduced me to this Great Band back in the Mid 90's and have been a Fan ever since. Sad to hear about Mike Bakers Passing. They will be carry on as Mike would have Liked with New Lead Singer Brian Aushland. Mike Might be gone but his Legacy Lives on.

  • more DMT bands !! this is the end of the world for sure.

over explotation of a source = DEATH PATH...

  • First Time I've Ever Heard Of Them And I Like It.

  • RIP Mike. this album changed me forever.

  • New album new album ;)

OCt. 26 everywhere but states and Nov. 3 in the states....I CAN"T WAIT TO GET IT!!

  • One of my favourite songs off all time from one of my favourite bands. I literally cried when I read about Mike's death.. RIP, a great singer lost.

  • New Shadow Gallery Album release due out in November 2009. The album is in post production now.

    -a shadow warrior.

  • wow what a song. im new to this band and ive been listenening to progresive for years and i never listned to this band before :c what a shame. I think i found another band to add with my favourites =)

  • Better late than never

  • =) ye your right

  • musically talkin, this is prog metal, but vocally talkin it could look like power metal

  • Sorry for everything i said, i dont say this band is bad i just dont understand why it is prog, for me it is much more closer to power metal like sonata arctica, then progressive metal, just compare the voice !!

Well maybe i just have no idea of what progressive metal is, i always though it was somthing like complex compositional structures, odd time signatures, and a NON-Power voice (listen the band tool).

  • Uh... if you think this sounds like power metal, you should give Dragonforce's "Through the Fire and the Flames" a listen. C:

  • You are right........ You dont have any idea what prog metal is.

  • Power and Prog Metal can sound the same, so when it comes down to similar sounding bands, you can separate power and prog metal bands by lyrical content. Power metal bands sing about fantasy and things of more of a thematical nature. Prog on the other hand tends to be more spiritual and conceptual. Prog bands tend to sing about things such as life and death, spirituality, social issues and philosophical concepts.

  • People are over complicating this.

Prog is an art form. As such, its structures are unorthodox. And themes can vary for every artist.

I.e. Beyond Twilight albums are generally centered around a fiction. And can be dissected as albums of inner reflections of madness.Tool on other hand, focuses on varied issues. Some spiritual, some political and everything in between.

    Prog's sound can be anything.

Saying that SG "sounds" like power metal is understandable. Ignorant, but still understandable.

  • @Geshien Except lyrical themes do not a genre make. Shadow Gallery is definitely prog., based on their instrumentation and utilization of abstract compositions, although to the untrained ear it can be difficult to discern. Prog's sound is diverse, because what makes a band prog is in the instrumentation.

  • @ConsecratedOblivion Hence why I said prog can be anything. I mentioned it was unorthodox.

  • @ConsecratedOblivion But, yes. That is true.

  • @Geshien Remember, too, that Pink Floyd is considered prog rock by many. Whether you agree or not, you can understand why. I think for Floyd, it has mostly to do with their tendency toward concept albums, which in itself challenges mainstream tastes to a certain degree. I think their contribution to prog lies mostly in that conceptual flare they have, among other things.

    Shadow Gallery rules!

  • MoodyBlues (&not JUST cause in 1967 they used an orc., & set the ball rolling) have been called prog; maybe for similar reasons as PF. Unconventional structures, odd uses of sound that seem to imply a conceptional approach. PF has a *vibe* that leans in a 'progressive' direction. Psychedelic, in the way some early MB was too. An appeal to the mind, 'inward tending'. Psy., but not (ala Cream) solo GTRist as the focus of a journey. More 'holistic'. Song-thru, not jamming. Not bluesbased, not pop.

  • @Geshien so true! prog is an acquired taste, but beautiful music nonetheless.

  • This song here is not complicated, ist is builded on an easy way, but it´s great, but a lot of the material is more complicated.

  • This song here is not complicated, ist is builded on an easy way, but it´s great, but a lot of the material is more complicated.

  • @marc4770

Tool is NOT prog. Tool is alternative band with progression. There is a big difference.

  • @urbsfobilian In a way I agree..They almost pass as prog rock maybe. I like them reguardless but not as much as bands like Canvas Solaris, DGM and Pagan's Mind

  • @marc4770 since when does the vocals have anything to do with being prog or not?

  • @adrian30020 - Songs about cars are usually reserved to 80's hair metal and rap, but Rush made Red Barchetta work quite well I think.

  • @marc4770 - there's lots of power/major chords in power metal, and probably 95% of chords in prog are diminished. I may just be talking out of my ass though, because I'm still fairly new to prog, and I wouldn't know how to play a diminished chord if asked.

  • @AgentFour 95% of prog is made up off diminished chords? About as true as 95% of power metal is made up off dominant and 7th chords. Diminished is a chord used just like any other - it's not underused as in some genres, on the other hand not overused either.

  • @marc4770 Remember that progressive metal is a mix of trash, power and death metal!

  • @DaryRockz08 what!? first, its thrash, not trash, and second what you say is exactly what the op called ignorant. progressive metal is inspired by almost every possible music genre, not just these few!

Most prog metal bands are also inspired by progressive rock, jazz, etc, and not just metal subgenres! also those are not the only metal subgenres that inspire prog, "classic" metal like judas priest, nwobhm like iron maiden are also huge influences. even black metal has some influence on prog :P

  • @marc4770 1stly progressive metal doesnt mean just dream theater and stuff-like-that. sometimes it means actually GOOD songs filled with emotion NOT just trying to exhibit playing mastery. 2ndly have a listen at "the crusher" from legacy and see if thats power metal to you. cheers

  • I fucking love this band!!!! Thanks for adding it!!!!!

  • I'm still waiting for their new album, hope it will be a fuckin' blast!!

  • RIP Baker.

    Good song.

  • nice

  • This song is awesome!

  • Some guy told me to look this up. I gotta go thank that guy.

  • epic theme, i loved this one and the band too, r.i.p for vocalyst

  • i am seriously gutted that he died..

  • Word.

  • R.I.P Michael,great voice

  • Anyone else notice how every awesome prog metal band is influenced by rush?

  • Oh yeah, Rush set the standard by which all prog rock and metal bands shall follow. 2112, The Necromancer, The Fountain of Lamneth, Xanadu, Natural Science, Cygnus X-1, Hemispheres, La Villa Strangiato, Jacobs Ladder=the foundation of prog metal. This is the first time I've ever heard SG, pretty impressive, vocals are a little overt, but that's to be expected.

  • Pink Floyd influenced a little too, I reckon

  • Pagans mind, circus maximus, seventh wonder, symphony x, cloudescape and so on.

  • it is prog but anyway...try fates warning, symphony x, pain of salvation, queensryche, conception, cynic, psychotic waltz, deadsoul tribe, and if u wanna be bold and listen to something new, go for mastodon or even protest the hero. Judging on your "like tool or DT" comment i think deadsoul tribe and symphony x would suit you most. possibly cynic too.

  • i just dont like the way shadow gallery sings, deadsoul tribe sounds not bad ill listen to more song thx you

  • That's fine.

Don't quite understand how they sound more like power metal. If you listen to their albums they most certainly do not.

  • This is prog metal/rock...based more on bands like Rush than Fate's Warning like DT is though

  • But seriously dudes, why down thumb him out? He's just stating an opinion.

  • Emphasizing about true progressive metal while ousting Shadow Gallery is just narrow minded.

I for one don't so much care that it's his opinion so much that it's ignorant.

That being the case, the thumbs down I can understand, though I never gave him one myself.

What, are you his girlfriend? I kid, I kid. :p

  • Tool, lol, you make me laugh.

  • lolwtf

  • I agree Shadow Gallery has nice Prog Songs, but THIS ONE (cristalline dream) really sounds like power metal, it is probably something like their commercial song !

  • I don't understand your thinking at all; if this is commercial then you must believe that 2/3 of "Tyranny" is also! I would venture "commercial" would put a bad taste in the mouths of most Shadow Gallery fans. R.I.P. Mike and Godspeed \m/

  • for me THE most underrated prog metal band! in fact, the most underrated band in general!! may your soul rest in peace Mike Baker

  • You are so right dirtyharry...this band was simply one of a kind and never ever got the credit they deserved and Mike Baker was in a class all by himself.. RIP Mike.. you will be missed..

  • Why can't i turn back the time, to see them live for one moment?

They are the definition of PROGRESSION in metal.

    REST IN PEACE BAKER.

Time to comfort all the others up there with your wonderful voice.

  • It wouldn't of mattered if you could/did. SG was an is still strictly a studio band.

  • damn i think ur the only one that shares the love for this band.

  • Mike Baker .. why did you leave us! WHYY!! god.. he was a god...

    Rest in peace

  • "Carved In Stone" è il miglio album prog metal insieme a "Images And Words" dei Dream Theater. Non ci posso credere, morire a 45 anni. Non ho parole. Solo un enorme grazie a te, Mike. Ciao fratello. Canta per gli angeli.
