ya civics can be made pretty fast but they have one MAJOR flaw FWD! you can keep on adding power but its impossible to get it to the ground and torque steer is only cool for a while

I plenty of 500WHP+ FWD drive cars catch traction with slicks. All it takes is proper set up along with proper track conditons. There are plenty of ways to achieve this.

I've seen FWD's break tires loose on the freeway at 85-90 mph (turbo Colt). It's all wheelspin. So you are half right, it IS about power/weight ratios, but not "all about" it... with no weight, there's no downforce on the tires which means very little friction (aka traction).
@Speedcult77 yeah, i completely agree with you, and a lot of it is because fwd sucks...definitely from a dig. there are HUGE advantages to different drivetrains. i mean even in this video, that civic seemed to have a real bad issue with hooking up.
@dynodrew44 There are a few very fast FWD's, but they are usually track-only since the setup requires fine tuning at every track and would be almost impossible for street use. I know I can spin all 4 from a launch about 1/2 way through first before it starts to hook and that's with only 423awhp and sticky Kumho 245/40/17's. Like I said, my friends turbo Colt will eat me alive on the freeway because he's about half my cars weight and a few more ponies but spins em @ 85+ lol, scary to watch lol.
Depends on the enfine characteristics but generally i agree with you. Say you had a Volvo t5 lump on big boost, youd probably end up with matching figures.

Than u arent making 350whp. I have a friend who had a turbo civic and it had about 360whp at first and he ran 13 in a quarter. No traction. He got more work done and got 400hp with radials and still didnt hook through 3rd gear. Its just a MAJOR disadvantage of a civic. S2000 would do better because of RWD and its light , S2000s are respectable when racing over a civic.

looks like a fast car, but its still fwd. im sorry but theres no traction there. even if your fwd car has 600 hp it has no torque, no traction and cant do donuts. take a 600 hp rwd car and you have a lot more traction. even with 600 hp in a little car like that, you cant put all that power to the ground. watch that car, its spins all the way down the road. sorry but im more for rwd acrs that have v-8s. they are a l lot cheaper to mod. and they dont need turbos like that car to get to 600 hp.

Seriously though your spending big money to get a little civic up to 600 hp. Where as I ccan get to 600 hp pretty easily and alot cheaper. Not to mention you could have a little 4 cylinder pushing 600 hp but the torque would be half that number.

you could definitely get 600 horsepower alot easier with a bigger motor, im not doubting that, but having 600 horsepower in a little car.. but if you had a car that weighed like 3500lbs, you would need a lot more than 600 hp to get it as fast as a 600 hp civic. its all about power to weight.

@dynodrew44 Ok so say I have 1000 hp in a 1000lb. civic... when would the wheels ever transfer the actual 1000hp to the pavement? Maybe after it's going 100mph if the tires are sticky. I've seen FWD's break tires loose on the freeway at 85-90 mph (turbo Colt). It's all wheelspin. So you are half right, it IS about power/weight ratios, but not "all about" it... with no weight, there's no downforce on the tires which means very little friction (aka traction).

@Speedcult77 yeah, i completely agree with you, and a lot of it is because fwd sucks...definitely from a dig. there are HUGE advantages to different drivetrains. i mean even in this video, that civic seemed to have a real bad issue with hooking up.

@dynodrew44 There are a few very fast FWD's, but they are usually track-only since the setup requires fine tuning at every track and would be almost impossible for street use. I know I can spin all 4 from a launch about 1/2 way through first before it starts to hook and that's with only 423awhp and sticky Kumho 245/40/17's. Like I said, my friends turbo Colt will eat me alive on the freeway because he's about half my cars weight and a few more ponies but spins em @ 85+ lol, scary to watch lol.

I just like making fun or imports. But I agree not all imports are slow. Say a supra or skyline. yeah b16b has best power per litre but its a 1.6 litre. its only like 200 hp and 120 lbs of tourqe. I'll take tourqe over Hp anyday. v8 are tourqe makers I don't know how people do stuff in Canada but the u.s. Is all 1/4 and street racing. my 99 civic hatch is 2222 from the factory minus ac and power stearing plus b18c plus me and gass equals +/- 2000 lbs and 200 hp so i got one and there are grips more where that came from! only cost $6000 after everything was said and done so no it isnt the fastest or prettiest but excellent bang for the buck any way and i put down v8s more often then i even care too

Than u arent making 350whp. I have a friend who had a turbo civic and it had about 360whp at first and he ran 13 in a quarter. No traction. He got more work done and got 400hp with radials and still didnt hook through 3rd gear. Its just a MAJOR disadvantage of a civic. S2000 would do better because of RWD and its light , S2000s are respectable when racing over a civic.

i see ur point but at the same time thats what honda tunning is based on. u take a light weight ecno box, put a beefed up bosted motor in it an u have a rcket. sure they might not be as fast as ur 6 and 8 cylinders but they are fast as hell for a 4 banger. and acctually i have seen a few drag metros at he local track. one runs a 9 secnd 1/4 i think

Gm made a turbo sprint back in the early 90's. it came with i think 235hp in a car.
a sprint ispretty much the early version of a metro. I guess they ran pretty good. I only seen 1 ever.
