this is a fantastic video. i was able to ID the parts as they were put on and also determine their function. this is going to help me a great deal on my test and performance exam. thank you!!!
It is a great animation, even at a low res. But I wish they had the crank and piston spinning before it went hidden in the block; for newbies. Very good though.
Why the hell are the timing belt covers ALWAYS held on with as many screws as the laws of nature will allow? I know it's important but for god sake unless the engine bay is absolutely enormous it's a pain to get off.
Is the little gadget at 2:40 a small supercharger of some kind? I've been wracking my brain, but I can't figure it out! It looks more like some kind of turbocharger, but it's connected to the serpentine belt.
what would be needed to convert a car engine to run a propellor. are the pistons on aircraft engines tighter than car engines? whats the real difference?
Did anyone else notice the injector spraying halfway down the compression stroke instead of at the beginning of the intake stroke? If that's not a mistake and Ford really tunes their engines that way, that's fine, I'm trying to figure out the advantage to giving the fuel a chance to sit in the intake port........
Does anyone know the firing order this engine is? can you tell from the video? I am learning this stuff right now. I think it is 1342. But like i said, i am just learning more of the complicated stuff.
Ford did not design this motor.. It is exactly the same as a Nissan 2.4l 4 cyl that i had in my Nissan 240. FORD is a cheat, like all other american car companies.
sorry to disappoint you but it really is a Ford motor its Ford’s 2.5L Duratec inline 4
if you really had a 240sx, you would know the difference of the shape of the valve cover, which side the oil cap is on, and that the intake manifold is on the left and the exhaust is on the right.
ditto14462 sounds like he knows jack shit about cars, so he may have been sold a dunga.
not just that, nissan and ford were under "model-sharing schemes" around this time so it was not unusual to have / see nissan shells with ford motors & ford shells with nissan motors.
@ditto14462 No your a liar, that looks nothing like a KA, the valve cover is way different and the manifold is opposite. You just assume because of the valve cover. IF anything itd look like an SR20, but still no. You made yourself look like an idiot and i hope after the 5 months you posted this comment you realize how dumb you really are. Get your facts straight buddy.
Can someone tell me what is the gas wasting on a 4 cylinder Otto engine?? I refer ve always asked myself what is the size of the damn piston hahaa so what is the volume of a cylinder chamber?? how many times per second does the cylinder is fulled assuming taht you´ve reached max power? Thaanks!
@matthewdimaculangan why? If you come to think of it, Ford "stole" the four stroke engine from the germans... It all depends on how biased you are.
First of all, the chinese have gone trough enough reverse engineering and are capable of designing their own engines. Secondly, even if they did, MOST of what is fitted inside your Ford was made in China.
I know it's not the subject..but people worry about the future with energy prices, pollution, etc..but God's kingdom is coming..and will eliminate all the problems we face, and give us the oppurtunity to come up with designs and fuels that don't pollute! Why are there 2 intake and exhaust valves on each cylinder? Also it would be great if someone would download this video, put a narration over it saying what some of the things are that are going on, and re upload. I think by about 2:05 I started to get a little lost with some of the things and it would be really helpful to have a little info.

@mattegeniet Trust me, there are enough hidrocarbs suitable for being used as fuel in the depths of the ocean. Why do the Russians, Canadians and Americans want a piece of land in the Arctic before it all melts?
@twistedyogert Gas turbines efficiency drops rapidly at low speeds. i'd say diesel. It can run on rapeseed oil (40% of this plant' weight can be turned into oil) which will never run out, has 50% efficiency, and burns less fuel per mile. Also rapeseed oil burns better and cleaner than petrol. Combine that with hybrid technology and you get a car that is enviromentally friendly, has great milage and its source of fuel is unlimited meaning that gas price will remain rock solid! yey! :D
not to crash on your party, even though i like biodiesels too, but the gas price will probably end up fluctuating based on demand of agricultural lands to support that. eventually as the earth runs out of space, we'll probably see a slow increase in gas prices once it takes a decent amount of money to wrestle land out of other people. except there is a potential for all this being averted by gmo rapeseed or some other miracle plant, so overall, diesel's good idea to stick to.
@twistedyogert i don't agree. electric motors have the highest efficiency. a good electric engine can use 98% of the input power in order to transform it into mechanical energy, gasoline engines rarely touch the 20%. that means that 20% is used for movement, 80 is wasted in heat and gasses. electric engines can reach evene 2-300,000 rotations per minute, but these engines are not so common. an most of all, less moving parts, which means less maintenance, longer life.
Nice video! I'm going to miss gas and diesel engines. Heads up all, we're running out of oil. Some have predicted that heating oil will reach $5.00/gallon by 2012. I hope someone can prove me wrong about the running out of oil thing cause I live in a cold part of the States.
Don''t worry, enough oil in the world. and if it's all gone there will just be other engines like hydro- i don't know what- things. A shame, i must admit that. I'll miss them too. Oh and in Holland where i'm from we already pay like 8,20 Dollars a gallon. mostly because of the taxes here. Too damn high.
Thanks a lot. I love it. You saved me a lot of time to teach my daughter how an engine works. Now she wants me to help her to fix mom's car (she just turned 5).
