Yeah, you notice all those wonderful desert victories happened in 1942, not '41, after the Shermans joined the Cromwells and Valentines on the battlefield. At best, Britain had halted a German advance. Without the Yank's massive material support, specifically the Spitfire engines that took their pilots to scrape a win in the Battle of Britain, Sealion would have gone off without a hitch.

When US came in 1917, both German and French were exhausted after 4 years of hell. This help was useful, but not vital. It would have been a question of some extras months for the French and British to finish this war. You can't compare battles as Belleau woods, with butchery and massacres as Verdun or Somme.

US contribution was helpful, but contrary to US belief, it was not USA who won this war. German army was mostly destroyed by French and British in 1917. US troops who came were fresh troops who never experienced long or bloody battles. It was easier for them to jump in this war. US total fatalities were the equivalent of 1 heavy month of Verdun losses. War was shortened by US effort, but not won. Don't forget, too that allied troops were under French high command, included USA.
