This was my late great-uncle, Rev. William Sims Sr.(1921-2009). He was my maternal grandmother's little brother, and the last surviving sibling. Uncle William was our family griot/historian. I remember many times sitting on that porch on N. State Street to hear him drop knowledge like that. We all miss him. Thank you for taping this. In a way, he will always be there for us.
BENJAMIN O. DAVIS SR. = 1ST AFRICAN-AMERICAN GENERAL IN THE HISTORY OF THE ARMY, THE "ONLY" BLACK MAN THAT WAS A GENERAL AT THAT TIME!!!!
HIS SON;
BENJAMIN O. DAVIS JR. = THE FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN GENERAL IN THE HISTORY OF THE AIR FORCE!!!!
JR. RETIRED FROM THE AIR FORCE AS A LIEUTENANT GENERAL(3-STAR), HOWEVER ON DECEMBER 9, 1998, PRESIDENT CLINTON AWARDED HIM HIS 4TH STAR AT THE AGE OF 85!!!
I want to commend you for taking time to respect this man, I'm not sure if its your grandpa or family or what. I am white and from the south and I love to see you loving this older gentlemen and honoring him. He deserves it, he has been throught a lot i'm sure.
