  • Nice driving, i was at a POC event yrs ago with my stang. Didn't have a race setup though but I told the guys I'd one day show up with a Porsche blasting stang lol

  • I should've started on my 89 hatchback a few years ago instead of selling it. Your vid has inspired me to go with a stang again. Nice smooth driving.

  • Very cool to see a 5.0 handling it's own. It makes me wish I saved up for coil overs instead of getting h&r springs and tokicos. :( Looks like a lot of fun!

  • Q: in your opinion (or any one els who wants to weight in) what is the best all around (mix of track and daily) to set up on a stock 90 hatch 5.0? i was thinking just struts an springs and sway bars with energy sus bushings all around and rear disk conversion and bigger front brakes? is a new K member really necessary for a novice?

  • @JoeyWads K-member isn't really necessary, you're on the right track. I wouldn't put urethane bushings everywhere out back though, I'd use height-adjustable LCA's like Maximum Motorsports makes and some new, factory-style SN95 UCA's and axle-side bushings. Caster/camber plates are a must, as are good quality shocks and struts (think Bilstein or Koni, not KYB or QA1).

  • @MFE92 Thank you! very helpful. Is there any where i can see the outside of your car ( for ride hight reference) and or the specs on your suspension set up? and did u upgrade to a 5 lug or still running the 4?

  • @JoeyWads 5-lug upgrade with 17x8's on all 4 corners. It's lower than stock, but not slammed. Maybe 1-1.5 inches

  • it's a Steeda Tri-Ax with their Comfort Pro handle. It's tall and places the ball closer to me than any other shifter I've had.

  • are you on the stock shifter? looks like you're throwing that thing a mile! anyway, nice driving and great vid!

  • Nice driving and nice to see an old fox body wading through the sea of porsches :) Is the engine setup fairly modest?

  • @svtcontour The engine is essentially a '93 Cobra engine with a different cam and exhaust. Based on chassis dyno results I expect it's making about 300hp and 360 lb-ft at the crank.

  • @MFE92 Very nice. When I used to have my '86 Mercury Capri RS, I had converted to mass air, tossed in an E303, cobra intake, lightly ported '91 heads with roller rockers, mac long tubes and exhaust all the way back. I miss it. Anyway your vid brought back memories of the car. Shoulda kept it!

  • @MFE92

What cam, exhaust, other mods did you have to your engine? I'm pretty much aiming for those same numbers.

  • @jpgbrookes it has a Comp 270 HR cam chosen for its high lift and mild duration to work well with the stock GT40 head's ports, with Dynomax equal-length 1-5/8 shorty headers and a custom H-pipe. If I were doing it again I'd do things differently, like AFR165's and a different cam. People are making way better power than I am with the same heads so maybe the cam wasn't the best choice.

  • @MFE92

I've heard nothing but good things about the AFR165's. If you were doing it again, what cam would you choose?

What is more important on a track like this? Low-end, mid-range, or top-end power?

  • @jpgbrookes Not sure about the cam but there's pleny of advice on line for that. I like midrange and a low top-end, unless you're using a Dart block, because the stock block can't take too many revs for too long. I've already cracked one block. I wouldn't put together a stock-block combo that required shift points any higher than about 5800 RPM.

  • It has 3.55's and a T-5. I'm running 5000-5700 rpm. I have a shift light set up as a warning at 5900 and I rarely see it.

  • Sounds like a nice running car. Can I ask what rpm you are shifting at and what is your gear ratio? Thanks, Mike

  • god that looks like so much fun. i have to start doing this.

    3.73 gears first.

  • Did you have to change classes when you modified your suspension to a 3 link? I also have a TA PHB MM setup. Sick Azz suspension. I have been using it mostly to street race, but its an animal and i can launch with evos.

  • I don't use a 3-link, but unless it's done a certain way, yes it changes certain race classes.

  • Yes, since then I've swapped to 425-lb front springs.

  • Maximum Motorsports K-member, A-arms and Coilovers, rear LCA's a torque arm and panhard rod. At the time I think I had 325 lb front springs, 390-420-lb conventional located rear springs, stock swaybars, and tons of body roll.

  • At the time. Does that mean you have a dif set up or did you sell the car? I live in NJ next to the Motorsports park and Ive always wanted to try some hot laps with my 91 coupe. Its a street car, but has all the roadrace goodies under her(maximum etc etc) with a rebuilt, fast revin 306. I wanna get with a local ford club and try it.

  • What is your suspension set-up for that fox body?

  • Yes it is

  • is that an x4rti i see?

  • Don't think you should be that chuffed. You have got 5 litres! Those 911s will be 3.0 to 3.6.

  • thats ok, because that mustang is 1/3 the price, and those 911, i could be mistaken but they are lighter? also possible AWD, and maybe even IRS? now i don't care how big or small the motor, but for something over $45,000 you better be damn near perfect compared to a live axle $20,000 domestic at that.
