@ owlie 14. Please name the Marvel movies you are refering to where Jack Kirby's name is see in the OPENING movie credits? You mean like the first X-men movie? Where Jack Kirby's name appears at the END of the movie credits? and I mean the very END. Also, now that the Jack Kirby estate is suing Marvel, and Disney owns marvel, will Jack Kirby's name be appearing in the opening, or ending credits of the upcoming Captain America movie?
If Stan gave credit in the 1960's, why did he stop doing so in the 70's, 80's,90's and into the 2000's? PLUS, Why doesn't he use his power, fame, whatever to INSIST on inclusion of Jack Kirby's creator credits in the OPENING of Marvel Movies that both Stan AND Jack worked on in the 1960's. Stan Lee's bad press seems to be brought on by himself because of his constant silence on Jack Kirby. By silence I mean Stan continuing to reffer to Jack as just "a talented artis I worked with."
name all the famous marvel characters that jack came up with first besides the silver surfer and captain america which stan gives jack the credit for?
@ninomt So much is surfacing about how creators were treated by the companies. Bill Finger's treatment by Kane and DC, Finger fleshed out Kane's idea and was a pauper for the bulk of his life. There are numerous others that deserve a bigger piece of the pie and hopefully their heirs will be able to recoup and benefit in the near future.
I'm glad this is on YouTube because of the bad press Stan Lee's had lately. I grew up during the best years of the Lee-Kirby collaborations, and I remember reading in the Bullpen Bulletins about the Marvel Method. Stan Lee clearly stated how the stories were plotted--he praised the artists. Lee took full advantage of any good publicity that came his (and Marvel's) way, but he always gave credit to the artists in the comics.
It's a little too late coming isn't it? It would mean more if Stan would say these same words on national television, radio, interviews . It would also be nicer if Stan would tell Hollywood to include Jack Kirby's name on the OPENING credits in movies like it was done for Steve Ditko.
@ninomt Actually, Jack Kirby's name IS included in many of the Marvel movies of the opening credits. And he has, I've noticed in many mainstream interviews (such as those you would see in tv and radio) given artists like KIrby and Ditko proper credit...
but Stan does say after listing a kirby and many other artists: "without them my stories wouldn't have looked as good...now OK i might have had the first idea but.."
Kirby had the first ideas for so many of the characters, but this was not acknowledged. Having that detail been said I definitely agree and commend Stan for saying what he did.
I respect your comment but wouldn't it mean more if Stan said these things on nation wide television interviews instead of at private parties? Even better, on LIVE interviews? I believe Stan has enough power to INSIST on including Kirby's name in OPENING credits of Marvel Movies of comics they both worked on.
@ninomt If you think of editors who work with writers, an editor can suggest you change something. It doesn't mean they take from your idea. With Stans idea, he ad them and let the artists 'mold' his idea. It's still his, right?
Film and publishing and music are all collaborative mediums, too, but someone will always get more credit than others and probably should.

I prefer the DC Style where the writer is the director rather than the artist being the director.

I respect his honesty in admitting how important Jack Kirby's contribution really was.
