i was looking for something besdes a ipod and some research, went to the store and i liked the sony one. it was small and had good battery life. 4gb for 99$ at the source by circuit city. asked the guy to get me one he went to the back he was taking long so im like hey ill be back in 5 mins. i went 50 feet over to wal-mart they had the 8gb zune for 99$ so im like fuck the sony one and took a chance with the zune. and it was a good buy i would recommend it to anyone, its defiantly a ipod killer

I've never owned an iPod Nano, so I can't comment on the sound quality - but I've read that the sound quality in general on all iPods is fairly bad, but that the audio quality on the Zune is much nicer. I certainly have zero complaints about the audio quality on my Zunes.
The Zune requires the Zune software to work, just like the iPod requires iTunes to work. There are some third-party hacks, etc., but the fully supported scenario is with the software.

I like the zune, but sadly I switched my main OS to Apple so I guess my next player is gonna be touch. No I don't want to use bootcamp either so using Zune is out of the question. Its awesome though, I like it better than ipods.

Then those people are ignorant. One is a touch screen PDA that, for 32 GB of storage, will cost you $399 USD. One is a music player with 120 GB of storage that you can buy for $215, nearly half as expensive. They're not in the same class - if you want a PDA, you buy an iPod Touch. If you want a music/video player with lots of storage, you buy a Zune.
The Zune 120 compares to the iPod Classic. Anyone who compares it to the Touch is ignorant of the facts.

That's correct - that's the way the Zune works today. The work-around is to connect as a guest - the Zune software won't delete anything if you connect as a guest.

Thanks for making such a great video. You are right about it being released in Canada, it comes out here on June the 13th. I'm highly considering getting rid of my iPod for one of them. But I have a few questions about it first.
1. How difficult is it to get all you files from iTunes to Zune software
1) Are your iTunes tracks DRM-protected? Then you can't get them onto your Zune, and you have only Apple to blame for that. You could see about upgrading them to DRM-free iTunes Plus tracks - they would work just fine.
2) No. Apple uses a proprietary connector that they don't license to anyone.
3) Yes, there are many DVD rippers on the market that have Zune presets (Corel DVD Copy 6 for instance, combined with AnyDVD)
4) Seems good to me, but I'm not a big radio listener...

That's correct. If it's a protected AAC file, it's probably an iTunes song you bought - and Apple only wants you using iPods, so they won't let you put your songs on another player. Sorry.

Glad you like the reviews. There only lost functionality on the smaller Zune 4/8 is the lack of video out - it's not supported. Other than that, nothing. The Zune 30 is the first gen unit, it's quite big. The Zune 80 is thinner.
You're buying it - you don't need to keep paying a fee, when you spend the points to buy the song, you own it. The Zune Pass is the rental option with a monthly fee.
The Zune pass is a monthly subscription fee ($15) that you pay to get access to unlimited music - it's like the new Napster, a music rental music. As long as you keep paying $15/month (about the cost of one CD), you can access pretty much all the music in the Zune Marketplace.
Glad you liked the review! The monthly fee would be if you got the Zune Pass, which is the monthly subscription "all you can eat" music option. It's completely optional though, and only available to people in the US.

It's different - points are shared between Xbox Live and Zune Marketplace, but if you get the Zune Pass it's $15/month regardless of whether or not you have an Xbox Live subscription.

The Zune doesn't use Windows Media Player, it uses it's own Zune desktop software that you can download for free from the Zune Web site (zune dot net).
One last question. Can I play music off the Zune unit directly from my computer using the Zune software? Currently, I'm taking my Ipod into work, settting the sync feature to manual and playing music directly off the IPOD via Itunes. The long and short of it, I don't want to store the music on my work computer hard-drive.
No, unfortunately the Zune lacks that feature (I sure wish it did that!). There is a Zune "hard drive hack" that allows you to access things directly off it like a hard drive, but I'm not 100% sure it works with the 2nd generation Zunes - and it would require you to alter the registry on your work PC...which might not be a good thing.

Unfortunately, there's no way to delete stuff off the Zune directly - you need to connect it to your PC and delete things off the Zune using the software.

Nope, there's no EQ. Unlike the Zune 30, the Zune 80/120 lacks hardware support for an EQ, and doing it in software would kill the battery life.

The Zune can use any music except music protected by DRM. So if you rip your own CDs to MP3/WMA/AAC, you can use that music.

I'm having some problems with Zune Software........All My Songs & Videos are in Zune Software but my Zune 80 Does not Syn all the Music and Vidoe Titles are Changed....Can Anybody plz help met out? I'd really appreciate that

Here one thing ur missing the 30g zune (my one) has a 1 mm one plastic all over it , that makes it indestructible

I totally love your reviews! But there is one question I have to ask.. Is there any "lost" functionality on the smaller Zune compared to the bigger? And is there a size-difference between the 30 and 80?

Glad you like the reviews. There only lost functionality on the smaller Zune 4/8 is the lack of video out - it's not supported. Other than that, nothing. The Zune 30 is the first gen unit, it's quite big. The Zune 80 is thinner.

question when you buy music from the marketplace are you actually buying it or renting it for a little while and then it expires?

You're buying it - you don't need to keep paying a fee, when you spend the points to buy the song, you own it. The Zune Pass is the rental option with a monthly fee.

The Zune pass is a monthly subscription fee ($15) that you pay to get access to unlimited music - it's like the new Napster, a music rental music. As long as you keep paying $15/month (about the cost of one CD), you can access pretty much all the music in the Zune Marketplace.

Yes, videos are in 320 x 240 mode and you rotate the Zune to watch them.

Well, I personally find the Zune software easier to use, but both the iPod and the Zune are easy to sync.

Glad you liked the review! The monthly fee would be if you got the Zune Pass, which is the monthly subscription "all you can eat" music option. It's completely optional though, and only available to people in the US.

is the zune pass subscription and xbox live subscription connected, or is it completely different. Because Zune and Xbox uses the same MS point system.

It's different - points are shared between Xbox Live and Zune Marketplace, but if you get the Zune Pass it's $15/month regardless of whether or not you have an Xbox Live subscription.

The Zune doesn't use Windows Media Player, it uses it's own Zune desktop software that you can download for free from the Zune Web site (zune dot net).

One last question. Can I play music off the Zune unit directly from my computer using the Zune software? Currently, I'm taking my Ipod into work, settting the sync feature to manual and playing music directly off the IPOD via Itunes. The long and short of it, I don't want to store the music on my work computer hard-drive.

No, unfortunately the Zune lacks that feature (I sure wish it did that!). There is a Zune "hard drive hack" that allows you to access things directly off it like a hard drive, but I'm not 100% sure it works with the 2nd generation Zunes - and it would require you to alter the registry on your work PC...which might not be a good thing.

Unfortunately, there's no way to delete stuff off the Zune directly - you need to connect it to your PC and delete things off the Zune using the software.

You can load up any music you have onto the Zune - the only exception would be iTunes music that isn't iTunes Plus, or other DRM-locked music.

No, the new Zunes do not have an EQ at all - supposedly this is due to a hardware limitation, but I'm not sure.

and what a fabulous price too! my friend bought a pink 4gb ipod nano just last year, which of course doesnt have half the feature the zune has, for a whopping $200. this is deffinitally a great deal!
