Hey, i saw that you were using an Azden Sgm X2, I just recently bought this microphone and it came with two barrels, one for mid range and another for a further range, I was wandering if you knew how to change the barrels?
Good tests, but the readings were way to long for each segment. Keep them shorter so you don't lose your audience. It's easy to tell what each mic sounds like, with about 5-8 seconds of reading for each.
@RealtyStudioHD Yeah, I was only doing this for myself and then decided might as well throw on youtube.. Maybe that's why I got so many dislikes.. but it was originally made for myself.. Lol
Thanks for the vid. I recently acquired the same combo (SGM-2X and H4N), and I'm a noob when it comes to audio. I did a basic test with the mic connected via XLR and found some audio hiss after playing it back from the HN4. I'm sure I need to tweak the settings in the HN4 or in post to eliminate this, and I should probably experiment and figure it out on my own, but could you offer up a cliff notes version?
@nairnet If you're getting a hiss with H4n and SGM combo, that is weird. I would make sure stamina mode is turned off, fully charged batteries in both the Mic and H4n, making sure your XLR cable is good and then do one more test.
nice vid i'm lookin at this mic and also have the h4n. i was surprised how the h4n's onboard mics compared, they sounded good at that close range. it would be nice to see a video where the mics pic up other sound sources from various ditances as well. high frequency and low frequency things and maybe an outdoor test to see how the shotgun rejects off axis sounds such as moving traffic in the background
Great video; it was really informative. Just a question - my DSLR (Sony a33) only has a stereo input for an external mic; would I be able to connect the Azden to it, as it is an XLR input? Thanks.
@Fell0wGamer Yes, with the right cord and it will only sound good if you have manual audio controls. I would advise getting the Rode Video Mic Pro, it would make a lot more sense for your setup, I will PM you.
@NERFPICTURES Just a hot shoe, It looks like it has threads, but it doesn't actually have threads. I found that this set up work for me since I use the H4n and the mount on the bottom of that L bracket has threads, it's actually great, check it out!

@3Bproductionz I am using the Zoom H4n with the Azden, I do not have the mic plugged into the camera.

@Josiah77 Sorry, but please correct me if I'm wrong or tell be if I'm right: Is this the breakdown?
#1 (internal mic on camera),
#2 (Azden connected to Zoom, low-cut off),
#3 (Azden connected to Zoom, low-cut on),
#4 (Zoom with integrated mics).
Now, I'd say that #3 sounds the most *pleasing* to me; however, #4 is the most articulate and would seem the best for interviews.

@NarzissNet You are correct.

I like 3 & 4. #1 sounds muffled kinda and #2 you sound like a demon haha
I actually think I like #3 the best. Its the clearest one.
