Epiphone was in the united states for over 75 years before they moved over sea's in 1976. Epiphone has been a American guitar company now for over 110 years and still age. The majority of Epiphones workforce in China are from the USA from top management to master luthiers. Epiphone was there own company from 1873 to 1957. That's when the Chicago instrument company who also owned Gibson at that time bought Epiphone by The demands of les Paul. Les paul always played Epiphone guitars.
i think it sounds pretty dam good killer in fact. love it...i have three les pauls.maruader, epiphone, andles paul standard...wish i could play that good. used to play about 11 or 12 years ago and of course the band went sour and now i am getting back in to it
@xtmi great...it's never too late to pick a guitar and maybe get a band going...once your enjoying yourself, thats the main thing! thanks for watching!
Souns great, I have a 2004 korean sunburst Sheraton all stock through a peavey classic 30 sounds reall nice, was there a massive difference when you switched?
@jonnyburgo nice setup, i didn't think so at first, and was kind of dissapointed...but then i went a played a gig with my band at the time and i really noticed how much of a difference the 57's make...the guitar just stood out alot more in regards to sound! in a way its like if you ever played a fender squire and then got yourself an american strat...you just have that extra bit of quality in sound!
Your Sheraton II really does sound very nice with the addition of the 57 Classics. I own a 2005 natural, and when I bought it I had originally thought of swapping out the pickups for the 57's as well, but after playing it for a while, I changed my mind, because the stock pickups sounded so good I couldn't see fixing what wasn't broken. I had to change the 3-way switch on my Epi Les Paul Standard almost immediately, but I haven't had to replace anything on the Sheraton II. Luck of the draw.
Nice vid dude, love the music. I'm trying to learn jazz and I'm looking around for a semi-hollow electric and I'm currently interested in the Sheraton II. if I were to get one, would you recommend I swap out the factory neck and bridge humbucker pickups for neck and bridge Gibson 57' Classics?
@TechnologicalGuru if you do buy one take your time in deciding because the stock pu's in the sheratons are very warm sounding and they might be just fine for jazz music, with the right amp you could have a lovely sound...i'm more of a blues/rock man myself, thats why i chose to change them! the truth be known if i had the money i would have just bought a gibson 335 and a sheraton II,and just leave the sherry as it is...you can get some great sounds out of those stock pu's!
@davidquirke1 I'm currently running a Fender American Special Strat on a Mustang III amp and I play a wide variety of music. I'm playing at a novice-intermediate level and I switch back and forth from hardrock/blues to soft music. From what I know the Sheraton's stock neck pickup get kinda muddy at high volumes or with increased gain(correct me if I'm wrong), but they're still good sounding. It would be nice to install some Gibson 57 classics cuz I like the sound of the es-335.
@davidquirke1 Right now the semi-hollow electrics I'm interested in are all Epiphones. The Dot, Sheraton, and Casino. I love the es-335 design and there are all high quality, but I'm just having a tough time comparing the factory pickups installed on those guitars.
@TechnologicalGuru I have a Sheraton. I was considering switching the pups to 57 classics. However, I didnt know if I wanted to spend the money. Will the 57's brighten/improve up the sound?
@scotteads1 It sure will. If you like vintage tone. PAF pups have a wide variety. 57's are very versitile. And they give a lot of headroom as apposed to Throbaks which to me, are as close to a real PAF as ears can get. But they tend to breakup at high vols. Which is a good thing! 57's are the smoothest, And they are half the price of Throbaks. Rock on.
I might actually try some Wolfetone Pickups in my Dot. I am not much of a neck pickup user so might just go for the bridge pickup. I do sometimes use the middle position and I think the stock neck pickup is warm but can lack some clarity. Changing pots on a Dot scares me due to the lack of a pickup cavity so I think I would have to have a tech do it. Yikes, that could be expensive. Was it costly to have the pots done too?
@richedie in the sheratons...yea it does but you'll get feedback at high gains cos they're a hollow body...if you were using them in a les paul they handle high gain brilliantly, just look up any of "Gary Moore's" RIP, videos!
@richedie the "gibson 57 classic" is your best bet...if the tone isn't as warm as you'd like, try adjusting the tone on your guitar and your amp...sometimes turning the volume up on the amp and the volume and tone down a bit on the guitar can help get that "warm" tone!
Hey, man. I have an Epiphone Sheraton II and I was actually wanting to do the change over to 57 classics. You said that you changed the pots as well? Aren't the Sheratons already equipped with 500K pots? Check my vids as well, I have some w/ the sheraton II there.
@thestooty yea i think so, but when i was changing the pu's i said i'd do the whole lot...i got the pots from mojo, when playing gigs i'v alot more control over the volume...where i hadn't when i first got the guitar! depends on the kinda music you play...you could totally get away with not changing them...i'm just a fussy fecker!!
I did a little research, the 500 k pots in the epi's that come stock or Korean specials. The ones you upgraded to and the one's I'm going to upgrade to are just better quality. The caps, the pots, the p/ups and a bone nut is gonna run me about $450 total - with the labor (I'm not doing it myself)... Can't wait to hear that bark!
@thestooty you won't be sorry...its great to do work on a guitar like that...i could have bought a 335, but i get a kick out of getting as "nearly" a good a sound from a cheaper guitar by modifying it! i love my epi...wouldn't mind a gibson either cos of the build quality but my sherry does just as good a job! what amp do you go through?
Most of those videos I have, I'm playing through a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL. It's probably the single most versatile amp I've played through. Not very expensive either. On two or three of them, I'm playing through a Marshall MG250 DFX. I know for sure, on the Pride and Joy cover I did, that was the MG250 DFX.
@thestooty yea they sound great with the sherry,i'v never actually played through a marshall...iv changed the amp i'v used in the videos, got myself a hot rod deluxe iii, great sound out of it...keep rocking anyway man, post a video up after you change the pu's, would love to hear the difference in sound...take it easy mate!
I'm going to do a before and after video. Before I take her in, I'm going to do some blues improv and then try and play it similar when I get her back.
@richedie more of an output with the plus in the bridge, more feedback, great for solos, that kind of thing! the standard classic in the neck has a lovely warm sound, great for slow clean blues! Yea replaced the pots, jack, switch the whole lot! But its true for ya, the stock pu's are nice, not a thing wrong with them, nice warm tones, some people rather them over gibsons...its all personal preference!
I'm going to get a epiphone nightfall. The first thing I'm going to replace is the machine heads with original Gibson machine heads which has a 18:1 gear ratio. and i want to replace the stock pu with gibson 57 pu, then I think the guitar will sound awsome.
@bnbfalcon it will,no doubt about it! I have a gibson 57 plus in the bridge...if you can afford them, burstbuckers would be great too for your nightfall, depends on what kinda stuff you like to play...you should try change the pots too, not that expensive and you'll have better tone and volume control, easy enough to do too because you'll have an access area at the back of the night fall! handy!
no,had to buy them separably, bought new pots and had them put in aswel, horrible job because everything has to be done through the F hole but it was worth it...this video dosen't do justice really to the sound of this guitar,i had the amp a bit loud and iv a shit camera! although the stock pickups, the epiphone pickups were ok, they had a nice warm sound, but at high volumes can get kinda muddy, the Gibsons are great!
Great Playing man!

Did you had to place the Gibson '57 pu's or were these allready on the guitar ?
Is this a special type off Epiphone Sheraton ( with the Gibson '57 pu 's ) ?

@richedie wasn't over expensive...i'd advise getting a tech to do it...its too tricky unless you really know what your doing...

Maybe that is why you don't see as many guys using semi hollow bodies for high gain nor high gain pickups in a hollow body

@richedie exactly...if you did you'd only be driven mad with feedback!!!

Why the 57 Classic plus over the standard 57 Classic bridge?
Did you replace the pots?
I agree, these Epiphones are killer guitars! Even the stock pickups sound really nice to me. I have a stock 2010 Epi Dot that smokes.
