I didn't I set the rev limit to 6700 but was in the automatic setting it defaulted to 5000 for stick shift. Just pushed the wrong button.

@ESTH72 You really know very little about how all this works!! Let me explain it to you.The Rev limiter was raised to 7200 rpms. The rear gear stock is 3.31. I installed y rated tires ( good for 180mph plus) which are 29 inches tall. In 4th gear at 6900rpms thats 180mph!!! @ 173 thats 6600RPMS!!!! Now the video shows runs from 25 to 28 seconds total if I fast forward it then the run would take less time. OH I installed 26inch tires on the rear and used 5th to get the 173mph @ 5900Just The Facts

I agree. Lags on the shift and more on the clutch. Just listen to the take-off... Well... The motor revving before the take-off.

Also, rev the motor before taking off. You will get more power at launch. Wheel spin can be controlled.

can anyone tell me if 173 mph is the governed speed for the gt500? because my srt8 wouldnt do full speed either but after i got it sport tuned i was able to hit a maximum of 177mph and i know stock for stock the gt500 has more HP than my srt8 and is lighter so it should go faster than 173mph thanx to whoever can tell me this!

everyone is commenting about bouncing off the rev limiter but I guess they didn't read when it said rev limiter set at 5k. That car builds rpm quickly and it's hard not to bounce off at 6400 let alone 5k. So why was it set at 5k anyway? You did a lot better when the limiter was set higher of course.

I had reset the rev limiter to 7200 before I put the car in the trailer to take it to Texas. I planned on using 4th gear and 29 inch tall tires. The default is 5000 rpms for both Auto and Neutral I set the auto and the neutral reset to 5000. I just reset the wrong one. The car ran 173mph @ 6900 in 4th and 173mph @ 5900 in 5th with 26 inch tall tires.

I had reprogrammed the rev limiter just before I put it in the trailer to haul it out to Texas. I adjusted the automatic setting not the neural setting which is for stick shift cars.

I use a Garmin Streetpilot c330 GPS on sale at Wallmart for 254 dollars. It gives distance in 10ths and you can get max speed. Here in Texas they clock us at the last 132 feet of the mile.
