They weren't trying to do the Harry Potter books justice, nor were they trying to please the fans. They just wanted to cash in on a popular franchise by turning a 600 pages long book into a summer popcorn movie. That's what Hollywood is all about.

I am saying this even though I am not even a huge Harry Potter fan. Just imagine how the fans must feel about this.

Mike newall seemed as if he had the right idea and took the story seriously where as many of the producers dont seem to care nor bother making the film as close too the book as possbile but of cource it cant be 17 hours but i wud be happy enough with a 3 and a half hour long film at least deathy hallows is gonna be 4 hours in total

Another thing that bothers me about Gambon's performance is his voice. Its not a dumbledore voice at all. Maybe just too used to Richard Harris.

@KimHH87 I totaly agree with you guys, Richard Harris was perfect as Dumbledore, Micheal Gambon just doesn't have that Dumbledorish spirit! that calmness and wisdom. It's quite a pity actualy because Dumbledore is one of the most interesting and important characters of the Harry Potter series.

@Cherryblossom82411 usually if a movie that's 4-5 hours in length is released in theaters, they have an intermission. but if they made the movie so that it contained everything, it would go on for about 17 hours. obviously they can't release that in theaters. but i do wish that they did make extended versions and split the movie of that length into several discs that way i wouldn't have been so disappointed with the theatrical release.

compressing destroys a lot, thats right, but if you wouldn't, the movie would last 12 hours, and thats even worse. i think it's important to cut the movie, and those who read the book know, that there he does something else or something isn't there what should be there. it's not the function of a movie to show every single scene exactly like it's written, but to entertain and to tell a story.

and i noticed: mr coltrane doesn't look like hagrid at all! i didn't recognize him, until i read it :o
