  • Always remembers me of a girl i knew way back when...a painter from Silkeborg;Denmark that I used to know

    ............Lovely song

  • Take me back to the 80's...i'm willing to do it for the songs!

  • cant get enough of this, well rate that album with in a room and shine on as well.bit like chameleons second skin

  • timeless.

  • excellent track but ffs sort out an interesting video

  • Why would you listen to this & dislike? 10 people have no soul

  • I really hate to see a wonderful song almost ruined by a rubbish video. And a micro-budget's got nothing to do with it either - check out the Stone Roses' 'Ten Storey Love Song' - another great example! :) On the other hand, the Jesus and Mary Chain made the 'Reverence' video for a grand and proved you can STILL look inventive with no money!

  • @Mrpublicimagelimited actually that was their excuse for spending all the cash on whiz- but i take yr point.

  • this was used very briefly on a Stone Roses tv program back in the late 80s, Rapido i think it was called - anyway i remember searching every last b-side, remix and song of the Roses to find out what it was, and finally today i find out it wasnt their song at all. Great tune, and the Roses were fucking great aswell.

  • I forgot about this song!

  • There's Chadwick then there's Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, and Vivaldi!

  • @zZGhostieZz perhaps stretching it just a little there my friend. i like em too, but cmon.

  • @z1rakz1gal My mum has been using my Youtube account again >:(

  • class

  • one of the greatest songs ever x

  • Good song for felling bad while waiting to my pizza is cook.

  • Viva RICK'S & GALLERY !!!

    GDL 80'S / 90'S

  • used to love this my bro always played it when i was young

  • Haunting

  • the shoegazeeeeeeeeeeeeee guitarsssssssssssss

  • HOL was an awesome source of good tunes...pity they broke up so early.

    -------

    Om shanti!

  • You may like Stheno & Euryale if you like this

  • constellation - not a million miles away.... however HOL broke up because of one person and one person alone...... he thought he was the messiah and wanted it to be all him.... I know, I was there.......

  • They fell apart due to a combination of heavy touring, heavy drinking/drug taking and bad management...They were feted as 'the next Smiths',but it all went sour when they signed to a major label who didn't really know how to market them. Shame really, as their early singles were brilliant-'Destroy The Heart' was/is fantastic...

  • "You're in deep."

  • how do you judge recognition anyways? Magazines that you happen to read that mention their names? Unless you conduct a survey of all music fans of that time period, you'll never know of their recognition. Don't worry about how you feel they were unappreciated, worry if you in fact appreciate above and beyond other people's opinion.

  • @spiltbluhd Well said.

  • Found a copy of this record at my local record store. What a score<3

  • Great band, saw the original line up a few times in the late 80's in London, when they first started out. Once they left Creation and signed with Fontana the sparkle seemed to wain.............................A pity as they were brilliant.

  • Hey come one people, jmc, mbv and hov. and then jmc fell asleep during. brilliant and idiots. like us all. twats.

  • Pretty timeless. In deep.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa shoegazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this reminds me of middle school back in '88... with a god-like glow...

  • LOL it sounds like he's saying something else besides "christine"

  • I love this

  • Does the refrain resemble the melody of which today's music????????

    I don't know :((((=(

  • @prozac010

    something by porcupine tree maybe?

  • yes i remember this

  • Another fantastic band that never quite made it - the combination of Terry Bickers's speed guitar work and pedal changes with Guy Chadwicke's swooping vocals...them's were the days, I'm tellin ye' boys!

  • Digo TEMAZO y me quedo corto.

  • Thank you for posting this. It took me 30 mins of looking to find the right version/group. I could not remember the group's name but only the title.

  • My cassette is half warn and muffled. thank you for the clear copy.

  • Wow, never heard of this band before-a terrible thing.

    Blown away by this.

  • I've been looking for this song for years. It's one of those songs you love the first time you hear it and simply can't get enough. Thanks for posting this.

  • Is that Gibbons he's neckin?

  • A great Band. Big up Terry Bickers, c'mon guys, you're still around. Reform and make songs like you used to!

  • this was one ma fav songs ever back in da day!<3

  • definitiely in top 5 albums of the 80s. This album is perfection

  • I love this song

  • 最初にこれを見たとき、気絶しました。

  • This incredible band picked up where the Echo and The Bunnymen energy and brilliance crapped out in 87. Early echo and house of love rule!

  • @mangouldbarrington1 This band were far more melodic and more talented than the Bunnymen

  • Trigger Happy Tv

  • Oddly enough, MTV played this vid during Headbanger's Ball one time. Why? No idea.

  • @ginsunh re christine house of love, pearly jam also used to be on headbangers ball

  • in the garden of the house of love

  • scottish music......its the dugs baws!

  • oh gosh reminds me of being 16............

  • que tal me puedes pasar este clip ?????

  • Best kissing scene ever. Hands down.

  • JUST QUALITY! Bring back Creation records!!!

  • amazing sound! john peel session album rocks!

  • love it !!!!!!!!!!!

  • Haunting!

  • One of the best bands of their era, and so underrated.

    What are they doing now?

  • sheer class

  • Amo esta música...

    I love this music...

  • wow... at the end they are all literally shoegazing. it all makes sense now.

  • EPIC

  • two thumbs down for asking a question about a band I know little about and a song i just heard recently...sorry I am not a nerd.

  • @jrunberg

    fixed that for ya:p

  • oh shit i remember trigger happy tv!!!!!!!

  • @GnomeScarf Dom Joly has amazing taste in music.

  • lmao. hell yeah. whoever put a -1 on my comment is a complete idiot O_o

  • Saw Elevation supporting The Sugarcubes in 1991. Bickers' music was deplorable. House of Love was class.

  • The band was Levitation not Elevation.

  • What an underrated band! Of course comparisons to Jesus & Mary Chain, Ride, My Bloody Valentine Inspiral Carpets or even the Chameleons (another underrated) and many other bands from that 80-90 era is there, but still. Beautiful voice, great guitar. They sure deserve(d) more.

  • Jesus & Mary Chain a very underated band from a little known place in scotland east kilbride, wonder where they are now?

    they were the mutts..........;)

  • I agree with The Chameleons. I never understood the very fact that they never had the regconition that they deserved

  • @DideeKawaii What a joke... Media attention is overrated.

  • @Sharangir Amen to that. I'm sick of hearing that tired comment.

  • @RogueRholm I totally agree. I saw them for the first time in a concert supporting Echo and the Bunnymen, but I liked them better!

  • Comment removed

  • @RogueRholm put on that underrated list, kitchens of distinction

  • @RogueRholm bands from the 1980's early 1990's which should have been far,far bigger: The Sundays, the Popinjays,Half man half biscuit, the chameleons (agreed!),Something understood, the Alarm,Big country, the men they couldn't hang.I agree with you the House of love should have been bigger - certainly far bigger than my bloody valentine - now that is one band I don't get at all - believe you me I have played their loveless album over and over.

  • one of my all time favs!!!

  • Great song, video is poor, but remember, they never had a support from record company. If they had, they would have been one of the most popular bands in the world. They have quality...

  • Can somebody tell me if the lyrics in this song have anything to do with the novel "Christine" by Stephen King?

  • Comment removed

  • middle eight is the best thing of this track with its incredible progressiveness just makes it awesome! Terry Bickers is still a legend also teaching music n all

  • great song!

  • heard this on trigger happy tv and thought this song sounded great but i searched the web for ages thinking it was JAMC...bloody song :)

  • Exact same issue here, taken me years to track this down until someone randomly played it at work this morning :)

  • well, maybe you weren't about at the time....at the time they weren't Jesus and Mary Chain-ish but 20 years later I can kinda see what you mean...House of Love were always a tad softer than JAMC...but I loved them both =]

  • ooh it takes me back =]

  • Comment removed

  • I like it but its defo mary chain....ish to a small degree - not such a bad thing!! Middle 8 is to soft tho!!

  • Me parece muy idiota el video, pero es una buena canción.

  • classic

  • great song!!!! sounds a bit like jesus and the mary chain...

  • themanfromparis learn to speak english or post in english and then maybe learn to actually know fuckin english you fuckin retard. The House of Love and 1987/88 have absolute fuck all to do with you.Prick.

  • I wish someone would post the video for "The Girl With the Loneliest Eyes"

  • Such a sad song...

  • ahhh f*** This song still holds a spell over me....what a haunting, beautiful melody.......an absolute gem

  • My pal is a dead ringer for Guy Chadwick, cheekbones and all.

  • Vimequin. Thank you for posting this

groovy song.brings back a lot of

    good memories .(highland park.calif.)

  • awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It is one of the tragedies of our time that they disbanded.

  • They did get back together again, at least recently. "Days Gone Away" is a good album, though much more acoustic than this. :)

  • this song is fantastic. hearing it helped to make shoegaze make a lot more sense. cheers for posting it.

  • hahaha my name is christine.

  • haha. wild

  • sitting in the schoolbus, hearing the song over and over again on a aiwa walkman, beeing 14, beeing sad and in love with the girl you never get...

  • Oi- that's my memory! :-)

  • that is such a summary of it all, isn't it? You rock! (Did you ever get "Christine"?) :)

  • Well said. At the time I was 18 & I also was in love deeply with this girl that would only be my friend only. Life bites sometimes.

  • @paukenjoe couldnt have put it better myself

  • @paukenjoe why the fuck did you post that....bringin back bad memories.

  • u never got her because u didnt try. every girl ive always liked i got because i didnt sit back wondering i went for it and made it my goal. eventually they come round. even if you need to use rehypnol.

  • @fausto80 what is rehypnol?

  • lol

  • @fausto80 seriously what's rehypnol for ?

  • rehypnol i think was originally made for people to try get over drug addiction. mostly heroin i think. the side effects of it were total or segmented loss of memory whilst under the effect of it. hence why it got the nickname of "date rape drug". i think other nickname for it is roofy.

  • @fausto80 ur a clown.

  • @paukenjoe grins n knods*<3

  • @paukenjoe It is incredible someone from other part of the world have felt the same pain...at the same situatins..lol

    Cheers from Rio

  • This one of those songs that takes you on a fucking "cosmic trip"!!!! No shit!!!

  • I heard this on MTV's 120 minutes program a very long time ago and I was mesmerized.

    Great track.

  • I fucking loved this song when I was, ooh, 15? I remember going to see the pixies live around the same time, still the best gig i've ever experienced. The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays were out. Acid house. We had everything and didn't even know it!

  • Don't you know it!

  • Does anyone have RIDE - Close my eyes??? Love this song, amazing how music evokes memories?

  • Does anybody remember a song from the 80s that features the lyrics "can't see the wood for the trees". I thought it was the House of Love?

  • I think (maybe) that was the Lemonheads version of different drum, I've been looking for a version of it everywhere, no luck though!

  • Cheers fella, thanks for the response.

  • Stone roses, Somethings burning?

  • hi. it was earlier than the stone roses and less northern in terms of english accent. I did think they were English though therefore probably not the Lemonheads,

  • ten trenches deep by the wonderstuff has that line in it (a live fave on the b-side of who wants to be the disco king.......apologies if barking up wrong tree.

  • Cheers for the response I will check it out.

  • Yep it was that. I had a compilation tape borrowed from a friend with Joy Division, Pixies and heaven knows what else. Cheers that has brought back the memory of listening to it.

  • hey true story!! i was a singer in a little mess around band back then we did all u2 mode etc..there was this chick "christine" i wanted to bang bad..lol..i told her that it was us doing the song and that i wrote it for her..spent a great weekend in vermont skiing on the way back to long island we had radio on i stopped for gas she heard it and was so pissed she got out and had her dad pick her up..in vermont..lmao..never saw her again..at least i banged her though..srry..

  • Anyone know which album this was from?

  • the house of love (1988)

  • Nice one, thanks

  • more feedback and chainsaws and this could be the jesus and mary chain.

  • That's exactly how I discovered this song: thinking it was the Jesus and Mary Chain.

  • really, the measure of a great band is how well they emulate the Jesus & Mary Chain

  • I found if after years. . . . Oh my I's soooo thrilled. Love this song. . . such happy memories of 1992....

  • Not same souvenir but was 88 for me !

  • I have been Looking for this for years, A friend Added it to a Tape he made up for me but i lost it, never knew till now who sang it... Thank you for the upload..

  • Christine, still walking at me

    Still talking at me

    Christine, Christine, Christine

  • a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p

  • I completely agree

  • Ever since I first started using you tube I get these sudden flashbacks of certain songs and go tearing up to the p.c hoping it's on there and thank f**k this one was...takes me further back that I am going to admit...great track...

  • album's genius. this band doesn't get enough respect. They were the forerunners to so many different scenes, but don't get the acknowledgment. This song is amazingly catchy like pink frost.

  • great tune from a great band. after all these years, I still think this was their best album. guy chadwicks solo, Lazy Soft and Slow is also fab.

  • My name is Christine and I'm so happy that there is such a great song with this name! :-)

  • im christine too - so we share not only the name but feeling about this song too

  • Remember listening to the Peel festive 50 very late at night,Christmas 87 and Destroy the Heart was No3,Christine was No 1. I was like wow, who the fuck is this. This is brilliant.

Always remember sitting up late at night getting stoned and listening to the brilliant first album.Love in a car is just immense.

Happy happy days from long ago.

  • i'm sorry, i accidentally just thumbed down your post when meaning to thumb it up.

Those are awesome memories dude. I was only four months old when you were toking up to their self-titled debut.

totally agree though, this album is a powerhouse.

  • They're still going strong. I saw them about two years ago in Stockholm

  • I LOVE THIS, and haven't been able to get hold of it!!!!

Any ideas how I can get it onto iTunes??

I have tried all the usual sources.

  • Good luck! I t was released on an independent label years ago. I had it on cassette and I have a live version on a radio only CD. These guys were/are great, Guy Chadwick is very underrated as a songwriter. Check out their other stuff.

  • Oh, it IS possible. On and off, there are, available, sites that can convert YouTube videos into MP3. Just keep searching, I'll try to update this information for you very soon. At least give you the name of the website that does this.

  • Simplemente fantastica!!

    Que recuerdos... eramos tan jovenes

  • ¿Que sabes del tema "Go" de Christine?

  • CAN'T SEE THE "BIG SCENE"..

  • wow, the bassline reminds me so much of the jesus and mary chain

  • that is exactly what i was thinking.

  • my thoughts exactly hehe

  • hey bighorny , no problems here, house of lovc fucking amazing- hedonist one of the best songs of all time IMO...

  • This is the greatest song ever written. And I say SHUT THE FUCK UP to the haters.
