  • Vangelis used more yamaha cs 80

  • @djmike303 Funny you should say that, because I'm not Vangelis. This video was made nearly three years ago when I only had these two synths. Sure, I'll get a CS80 - have you got several thousand pounds to spare?

  • Los Angeles.

    2019.

    ...wow...

  • Uh you guys are being so mean to me.

  • Mental man!. That was well mad. Its lame as fuck that they told us that blade runner directors cut was being deleted, never to return again. Then they bring it back out under a subtly different title, and a subtly different cut?.They told us it was gone forever, so I got in a bid war and won the directors cut when it was still cool. That SUCKS man!. The blue version makes it look like they didn't have the balls to delete it like they made out they were going to, the blue one looks well sad now.

  • 1:08 its like the dude from growing pains and Tom Hanks had a child

  • Great sounds. The ARP sounds fantastic. Good work.

  • Fantastic! Despite the lack of cs80 you still get the pathos feel across really well. Very nice quality video too.... well done, I love your stuff!!

  • @khaaaaansumating Hey why don't you marry him he has to single if he owns two keyboards worth more than the average wedding?

  • Thanks for posting..

  • Excuse me?

  • Wow, your AXXE looks absolutely mint! Mine lost nearly all sliderknobs :-(

  • The guy I bought it off replaced all the missing knobs with some from a broken ARP Odyssey... so some are the original white, and some are different colours! :P

  • @HITMANMONSTER Sorry, remind me who invented the English language again? :)

  • @HITMANMONSTER

Possibly because he lives in a county that spells its with a "U" moron

  • @HITMANMONSTER WOW some people are dumb. I mean, there's regular 'ol garden-variety dumb. But then there's the industrial-strength, hard-core, overwhelmingly dumb. Hitman has shown us all something very special regarding the extreme density of (some) Americans. Go America! FIrst in Military, last in education. You win, and in flying colours. Wait, I mean c-o-l-o-r-s.

  • @HITMANMONSTER Great. Thanks a bunch. I'm going to have to spend the whole morning recalibrating my Dumb-o-Meter over this one. I normally have it at its lowest setting before logging on to YouTube - y'know.. just in case - but there's smoke coming out of it now and it'll take ages to fix, so.... thanks.

  • @HITMANMONSTER Someone was dropped on their head as a baby...

  • Cheers steviox will certainly check it out !

  • Okay, Edward James Olmos. Nice reference. Most awkward line in the movie.

Detune your arp one slight more and you're there! Can't believe cs80 has that kind of filter (opposed to Minimoog or Jupiter) but guess so.

How the hell did they cram him into that movie anyway? Mickey Rooney and Gary Coleman in 2001 a space odyssey. Jim Nabors.

  • @jasoncreek

he'd have a job its got only one oscillator....

  • Is that mik300z's patch on the microkorg?

  • Nope, but I do love mik's VP330 patch and use it a lot!

  • @McPhale Sounds similar to Micks patch but I don't think it is. I know his music fairly well and it sounds different to me. His string patch on the MK has a swimming chorus sound to it that this lacks.

  • maybe a little bass-y on the microkorg, but this does make me want to get one.

  • My gosh that arp sounds incredible. Thats a hard sound to make.

  • amazing!!!!

  • Beautiful :) P

  • very nice, could you mabie give me the patch notes for the microkorg?

  • CS-80 FTW! if only you had one :D

  • omg.. i came so hard! Blade Runner is one of my favorite movies! My friend had a microkorg just like that and i used to get stoned and space out so gawd damn far on it accompanied by some resin-thick minimal techno he played on his Technics.. :D

  • Love it! I've had an Axxe for 30 years but can't find anywhere to get a refurb...

  • @richardleeuk try asking around on DIYAudio. I'm not sure how much luck you'll have but there are some !insanely! skilled audio electronics guys on there, good enough they can better commercial gear.

  • @richardleeuk

google kent spong....i'm not joking! tell him steve the fishmonger sent you....he did the keys on my pro 5....

  • beautiful...

  • Man, great playing!

    5 stars!

  • I can't make an Axxe sound like a CS-80, of course... 'but then again, who does?' :P

    ROFLMFAO

  • @FormerlyKnownAsShun -Clever, huh?!! ;-)

  • Nice! If you want the Arp to sound like the CS80 you have to modulate the filter more and add chorus, reverb and again reverb.

  • Brilliant!

  • WOW...knowing nothing about keyboards, but absolutely loving the film and score, I can honestly say superb job mate.

  • Good effort man.

  • i love it :)

  • is the micro korg realy good? what is the microphone it come with for? can you sing into it and hav it change your voice? if so, thats cool!

  • yeah its called a vocoder.

  • Sweet Pianos, totally want to get some of those! Such classic synth sounds

  • rayadores myspace veri mucho

  • What's the patch/program on the microkorg you've got going there?

  • Probably A68 if he's using a factory preset.

  • Brilliant !!!

  • very good but you rushed the tune a little bit

  • he did rush nthe tune didn't he

  • Beautiful Axxe patch. Sounds pretty square-y :)

  • Very good - saw your hits of the 80's but the comments were exceeded- brilliant stuff - love Vangelis.

  • talented

  • Nicely done!

  • great! congratulations :o)

  • I love blade runner ... i love vangelis ... i love your theme!

  • God did Blade Runner have a good soundtrack to it, it fit the movie PERFECTLY. I love Blade Runner Blues, I like to listen to it driving on dark, rainy nights :P. Vangelis is a genius!

  • @RayManzarekGod Check MIK300Z channel. He did a cover of BB Blues.

  • Wow! An Arp with all the slider caps intact! Great song too!

  • Good job. Slightly more attack on the lead and a bit of vibrato.

  • Great job!

  • When you rot the pitch i felt something like connected. Thank you!

(a Vangelis and synth fan and producer)

  • Suppose it's a rotten thing of me to say, but considering how simple it is to build the original lead with practically any VA/Analog synth with 2 saw oscs (or one saw osc with unison) and a lowpass filter, i can't help but think you could've done this entire piece on the micro alone. Then again the Axxe is probably a lot more comfy to play ;)

  • Brilliant

  • MICRO KORG REPRESENT!!!!

  • like..tears..in the rain

  • True sounds and nice performance. Great!

  • "but then again who does". haha did you intend that quote from BR?

  • thats was sooo awesome....feel so chilled out when listening to that. Does anyone know if there is music thats like this out there....apart frm the actual blade runner album i cant find any artist who made music as chilled out like this....synth music is not popular like it was :(

  • Check out the albums: 'Pieces in a Modern Style' by William Orbit, 'Oxygene' by 'Jean Michele Jarre' and 'Ghosts' by David Morley.

They're my reccomendations for a similar mood to this, but check out other albums by the same artists too for more great electronic music!

  • check out steve roach, brian eno, or bedtime for robots

  • also...phaedra, ricochet, and rubycon by tangerine dream...

  • Check out MIK300Z on YT. He does a lot of Vangelis styled music plus several covers of his music. His origional music is completely fantastic. By the way, I like this rendition. Nice sounds from the MicroKorg there. The AXE lead is quite nice. Keep it up.

  • REAL?

  • Great, very faithful in notes and sounds!

  • The end theme is pretty radd also.

  • i love this video- I watch it often!!

    Vangelis is a genius

    nice rendition....

have you ever heard of royksopp? because I have a feeling you will love their music...

  • I like this music a lot

  • Nice job. I'd say you got pretty close. Maybe just a bit more reverb and some chorus on the lead voice from the Axxe (single oscillator sound needs to be fattened up just a bit).

  • You should do a bit of Blade Runner Blues, that would be amazing!

  • you guys are wickid!!

  • Do you have a foot pedal for the Axxe?

  • awesome sounds out of both!

  • Uhhhh...You guys rule! My heroes to be exact!!

  • is the ARP AXXE polyphonic? Sorry 'bout my ignorance... great performance anyway

  • No, it's monophonic and single oscillator. You can get some wicked spacey sound effects out of it!

  • That was awsome dude

  • That was good.

  • If I ever get married, will you play at my wedding????

  • O M G THIS IS GREAT!!!!

  • Fab sound -sends shivers down my spine and reminds me of my student days in London with the old ARP's and EMS Synths. This clip has just inspired me to buy an ARP axxe -Thanks for a great video.

  • Excellent!

I liked your "who does" comment, too. Nice inside joke!

  • SPLENDID!! My favorite movie.

  • lovely ARP. one of the real synths

  • Good job. Beautiful Axxe there. Too bad the clip isn't in stereo. :-(

  • add this to the end of the address bar and it will be in stereo

    &fmt=18

  • Did you actually try it?

Yes, I know that trick. But because this clip wasn't uploaded in stereo, it still plays back in mono when you add that. It's still in mono. :-(

  • I feel digital whiles it got a little better just cant compare with analog for those type of sounds

  • I wonder which synth Vangelis used for the lead. It sounds so haunting on the soundtrack. Your ARP comes pretty close to capturing it.

  • He used a Yamaha CS-80, which is perhaps the most beautiful sounding synthesizer ever made. It also weighed 220 pounds and is worth a LOT of money these days!

  • Thanks for the info :) Personally I like the old analogue synthesizers the best. Sound way better the the digital stuff they make nowadays. The old ARP's, Moog's and now the Yamaha CS-80 as well :)

  • If you can actually got to find one...just no one available...damn wish we could lived back then

Vangelis use to have 12 CS-80 for spare parts(clever man)...

    Nice job man

  • @EnvelopeGenerator

look out for the Yamaha SY2, it has the filter of the legendary GX1, the preceeder of the CS80. Though its a so called preset synth, it has powerful soundcapatibilities.

  • i just love this sound.....

  • I have a MicroKorg n I love it. It compliments the old analogues so well. I have an original Yamaha CS01. Together they sound amazing...Hoever Im new to making music and I was wondering if you know how I can hook up the korg to my laptop? Midi to USB maybe? Is that good enuf?

  • Sure, just make sure you get a decent USB MIDI interface, some of them have latency and other problems. Just look around and read reviews until you find a good one!

You can also get firewire MIDI interfaces, and probably MIDI cards for laptops as well. Have a look and see what you can find!

  • i ve seen ...

  • great fucking great u guys r very talented , i have a microkorg but just getting into it

  • this is shit.....THE SHIT!!!!!!! wow man totally tripped out on this one.... more buddy!

take it easy though dude you dont want to rip a hole in the fabric of space and time, or do you?

  • Hey thats a great idea. I didn't know it was the same as the octive moog filter! thanks man. the synth was given to me when my uncle retired from the music bisness.

    Love the blade Runner sounds..

  • I have the black and gold ver 1

  • Nice! The mk. 1 has a copy of the 24dB/octave Moog filter in it, which means you get that awesome filter you can run external audio through!

  • Nice job! I have a arp axxe as well did you put a filter on it or is that clean?

  • I put a little bit of chorus and reverb on it. Do you have a mk. 1 (black and gold) or a mk. 2 (black and orange) Axxe?

  • that song always sends shivers down my spine, and this was no exception, very well done!!

  • very well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Impressive. Most impressive.

  • Not bad at all! I did mine with the built in sounds with Logic Express 7.2. please check it out and let me know what u think! 5 stars!

  • Right ON Man!! love the quote

I can't make an Axxe sound like a CS-80, of course... 'but then again, who does?' :P

    Where are the Origami figures?

  • you got it!!! good job!

  • What are the left hand chords please?

  • It's perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • simply wonderful...really great!

  • Great!

  • hmmm. is that in a different key to the original? nm, still awsome

  • Good sound, I like it

  • now that's what I call beautiful music.

  • like tears ....in rain...

  • It may not sound like a CS-80 but damn that Axxe sounds very nice, good job :-)

  • Great job!! Very accurate!!

  • perfect!

  • just amazing

  • excellent! 5 stars :-)

  • Dude, what patch on the microKORG? It sounds amazing!

  • Patch A67, with external chorus and reverb. I think I might have modified the default patch for that channel though, so if it sounds different I can send you the parameters.

  • Please do!

  • Yes, I'd really like to have the parameters for the microKORG patch!

Awesome job!!! Thanks A LOT for sharing! :-)

And all the best for 2009!

  • excellent! i really like this,well done!

  • What a beautiful theme :)

  • Thanks for the inspiring video

  • Great job Bro, I love seeing that ARP, I have one too. Too bad they are long gone, It looks and sounds great!

  • Wow :O 5/5!!

  • How did you get such beautiful strings out of the microkorg? I'd like to reproduce them on my MS2000...

  • Hi! I can send you the parameters for the patch if you like, but I added a bit of external reverb and chorus for this video.

  • great job

    5* no less

  • Makes all the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!!! Amazing!

  • very awesome

  • Good stuff,

  • That was great! Good job!

  • great job - note and timing perfect.

  • sounds great!

  • nicely done :)

  • awesome,well done

  • Brilliant, nice to see somone using the microkorg for somthing other than arpeggiated trance or techno!

    Sounds real nice

  • I've...seen...things....

    great job!

  • I've...seen...things....

    great job!

  • wow, Im very very impressed.

  • Not bad! you've got an ARP..ultracool!! Are you using a sawtooth wave on the arp? Try detuning it slightly and brighten it up a bit, and as synthbrn said, a little vibrato. Not sure how the ARP works, but if you can get the mod wheel to control vibrato or fraquency, it would make a whole lot of difference, well played

  • Thanks! Unfortunately, the Axxe doesn't have a mod wheel, but I've added a bit of vibrato now and it sounds a bit better. But I don't think the Axxe can get any closer than that - after all, it's only a one oscillator synth!

If only everyone had a CS-80, the world would be a much better place. :P

  • very close! maby a bit more chorus on micro and a bit a vibrato on the axxe if it can
