  • I feel like a horrible person for being aroused by this.

  • @GitanaLuna23 No shame in being aroused by John Simm, it just means you've got a pulse!

  • @GaryAnyanka IKR! Ohhh, he is sooo hot.

  • Nero was born during the reign of Caligula--he was only a baby when Little Boots got assassinated so this is really anachronistic, so sorry...nor was Nero's father killed by the mad Gaius.

  • Damn...I can't help but LOVE John Simm's performances, especially the evil ones. The tension in the air around every word he says is just phenomenal! And (as a side note) he still has one of the sexiest voices ever.

  • @Girlycard33 Yes. He really really does.

  • John Simm played the best Caligula I've ever seen...Awesome!!!

  • There needs to be a show where Simm acts like this every week preferably as the protagonist. Can't get enough.

  • Is it *wrong* to be turned on by John Simm in this role? I am very, VERY confused... @___@

  • caligula is my hero

  • This man is even hot when playing an absolute psychopath.

  • around 00:54 he looks like such a creeper with his arm around the kid's neck.

But still Simm can play a psycho but still be likable :)

  • Caligula was a sick monster.

  • @LESRAM1981 Aloys Winterling. Book. Read it. Come back. Delete. Thanks.

  • does anyone know how accurate this movie is

  • @emperordeebo In terms of events or character?

  • homosexual

  • @rocksoliddude1 More like Nmyphosexual.....they were sum freaks back then......

  • @KDTNproductions C'mon, in Ancient Rome it was perfectly acceptable to screw *anything* if it was gorgeous enough XD

  • What a performance by Simm.

  • He has the sexiest eyes EVER!

  • "One blood ... one flesh." OMG, that Simm is sex on legs! He can talk like that to me any time!

  • The only thing I liked about this film was John as Caligula.

    He's such a great bad boy ...

I love him as the master too

  • Who plays the best evil charming guys???

Hell yes, John bloody Simm :)

  • where i can find dis movie plzzzz

  • Whoever were the historical consultants and director for this movie, they really didn't do a good job. The TRUE facts were totally messed up!

  • @HistoryLover1550 Of course the facts were messed up. You can't expect drama to be accurate in the slightest...

Anyway, most material on Caligula hangs on to the idea of him being insane, which is somewhat inaccurate in its own right. You can hardly expect to obtain true accuracy from accounts THAT far back. :P

  • @RainingChilies I know, for example the story of his fake invasion of Britain and his war against Neptune, that was a myth. There's evidence that he was constructing a bridge for a real full invasion of the island and archaeologists found the money he used for funding it, so you're right he wasn't that psycho that he didn't know what he was doing. The historians accounts made him look insane to make future emperors look good.

  • @HistoryLover1550 With Gaius it's difficult to tell what's real and what's myth! :P Although I think that's part of what he was trying to do, in order to appear more than human. Of course, since the only sources we have from the time are based on horrifically biased senatorial traditions and conservatives who hated anything alien to Roman culture, I don't think the guy stood a chance :P

  • @RainingChilies You've a good point there, the sources we have are from a biased, they are secondary, they are the only sources we have to go on.

  • Where's Livilla? She was with Agrippina and her husband on the plot to kill Caligula.

  • Never seeon this movie, i heard it wasn't very good.

  • Holy sakes, he's got the sexiest eyes ever... (sorry for the unabashed fangirlling, but it's true!) and he's an absolute treat to watch. This is quite the find; thanks for sharing! :)

  • The best portrayal of Caligula was done by Jay Robinson in "The Robe" and "Demetrius And The Gladiators".

  • intense intro

  • Nero is nothing .. Compared to Caligula

  • hhh

  • I looked on another internet page and then returned back in 5:25 and I was cerain this was the laser screwdriver :D

    I still am :D

  • lol Caligula seems fairly mild in this. Also it is interesting they call him Nero, he was not called that until he became Princeps.

  • The old man in the Senate... Is that Sir Derek Jacobi? Wow. Two Masters in the same place. That's a weird coincidence!

  • John Simm is excellent at playing the insane mastermind/evil genius/just plain old crazy bad guy.

  • I LOVE JOHN SIMM!!! gosh that man is fucking sexy in everything he plays... ^^

  • ... Oh god, children are creepy, aren't they?

He's even got dead eyes.... and he just... doesn't do anything.

  • ...I think i can see how Nero turned out the way he did (Unless ofcourse this isn't the same Nero that i think it is)

  • Isn't it interesting how John Simm always gets cast for the complete nutters?

  • 5:00 you might think that i couldn't possibly comment

  • I have never heard of this - where is it from, please?

  • John Simm and Michael Sheen are amazing!

  • uncle claudius was a handsome blonde aristocrat this guy looks like a Morocan. Bad casting.

  • is that bearded monkey supposed to be Claudius ? What a poor choice of casting.

  • @MrAugustus88 The whole point is that Claudius appeared to be a stammering, limping, fugly fool regardless of his massive brain. That bearded monkey is probably a step up.

  • The only caligula!Master fic I've ever seen was ombredelarue's Alis Grave Nil on lj.

It's amazing. So, you should check it out!

  • John Simm plays such great villains :)

  • @Cocarat206 Yeah, he really really does.

  • Is the woman the same Aggripinna who married her uncle Claudius, and later poisoned him?

  • I think so. I think the first Agrippina died before Caligula was emperor.

  • You know, John Simm does look a bit Malcolm Macdowell-ish, now that I think of it...

  • This is amazing, I love this so much <3

  • is this the first scene with caligula? it seems kind of abrupt if it just starts off like that.

  • He didn't liked to be named Caligula...He was named Gaius Augustus

  • Caius was his real name indeed. Augustus was the imperial title.

  • At 5:24...is that what I think it is? Where did Caligula get a sonic screw driver?

  • @gialla111 its not a sonic screwdriver lol its some sort of pen

  • @gialla111 is he the same guy who played The Master? I thought so. If you like sci-fi just google Bruin 19 Outpost ... we love DR WHO

  • @gialla111

*cough cough from the Doctor he has tied up in another room cough cough*

    ;D

  • @gialla111 no silly, thats a LASER screwdriver.

  • apparently caligula once invited two senators to the palace in the middle of the night - and they were terrified because they thought he was going to kill them - and they got there and were shown into a room where dozens of musicians were playing, and after a short time caligula entered dressed as a woman, danced a short little number for them, and then left.

... why is it that i can totally see the master doing something like that? lol. wow, this is hilarious.

  • why can't there be peace and prosperity for all :(.....

  • When he says: *How will she be punished*, (or sg like that, anyway). I instantly though: TOCLAFAAANE!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TalasedaWolfTherian7 ha-ha-ha!!!

  • OH MY SANCTUS ESPIRITUS!!!! That explains why Caligula was insane. He's THE MASTER!! *faints*

  • OF COURSE.

Now I know where all this "Master-is-Caligula" fictlets come from....:/

    <3 <3 <3

    Simm is cuter evil...

    Jussayin...

  • OMFG, Caligula!Master fics exist? SERIOUSLY??? Please tell me where! :D

  • @simmsquee @simmsquee same here I spent some time looking and only found this one good one and no others

  • @simmsquee

I have only ever found Caligula!Master SLASH fics, but if you are good with that go to the livejournal group "best enemies". They have a link there.

  • They need some serious broodlooming.

  • Caligula was fucked the hell up!! he had people nibble his feet for god sake!

  • Our child and welfare agencies currently do little more than this man

  • Didn't Caligula appoint a horse as his right-hand "man"? Or was that some other crazy emperor?

  • Yes, it's him.

  • He appointed his horse consul. It was more to mock the senate than insanity.

  • @LSDetroit Well, here in America, we appointed a Horse's Ass -- Joe Biden -- to preside over our Senate.

P.S. John Simms as The Master was epic indeed!

  • Yes, that was caligula who appointed his horse as chief of state.

  • He did that to fuck with the senate.

  • judge dredd had a character called Judge Cal who became dictator and appointed his goldfish! lol

  • I don't think Claudius is very accurate in this movie. He used to grovel and pretend he was retarded so all his psycho family wouldn't execute him lol. This story is taken from his own accounts he kept all through his life in secret. all the other historical records were doctored and fake

  • Caligula was far more interesting than Nero. I hate how they try to make Nero out to be a hero in this movie.

  • @LSDetroit Next to Caligula, Nero was among Rome's worst rulers.

  • Why the hell does Claudius have a beard?

  • Contemporary Romans wouldn't have known him or called him Caligula, but rather Gaius Caesar.

  • Didn't he hate being called Caligula? Little Boots.

  • little sandals

  • What a total bastard! Caligula doesn't scare me. I'd walk right up to him and punch him in the face, LOL!

  • Caligula is my favorite Real Villan!!!!!

  • Another very interesting, powerful autocrat and effective emperor was almost forgotten Domitian.

  • "undoubtedly historically accurate Caligula. "

Undoubtedly? Not much is known about real caligula but rumors and jokes historians did write down. He wasn't more "mad" or perverse than many other emperors who are praised as good ones except he did one BIG misake - he did opposed senate and nobility. Always fatal choice...

  • what, an english-speaking caligula?

  • John being wonderful as a nutjob again!

  • Wow. This is some great acting.

And I'll admit it. John Simm is a gorgeous man that can just about anything hot.

Seriously, though, great acting from everyone.

...Man, do I want him in my pants. >_>

  • that can make**

  • Comment removed

  • i cant understand why men can tolerate this kind of freak for so long ,even to this day there are caligulas and neros called presidents.

  • oh john simm, so cruel but hot.

i just learned yesterday about the punishment of being thrown into a river, but you got whipped first. fuck that.

  • So sweet and evil. OMG, just like the Master ;>

  • 00:37 SWORD!!!

  • i love it when hes mean^^ so hoooooooot

  • He is holding a sonic screwdriver at 5:16!

  • when was this on

  • Whoops! So sorry, Musentochter, I wanted to thumbs-up your post but accidentally marked it as spam! Sorry!

Carry on. Caligula is just awesome. *Clap for Cal*

I mean, like, this one and the real Caligula.

  • Caligula is a rather interesting device from long ago.

  • The movie was very very weak, but John Simm as Caligula was GREAT!!! :-)

  • yeah you can see echoes of this role in his portrayal of 'the master' in dr who last year

  • Wow, this is intense!

  • Is everyone forgetting John Hurt in I Claudius, he pulled off being funny and terrifying at the same time.

  • yeah I remember

  • I just Love John Simm and he's fantastic as Caligula. He's probably the best actor in the whole movie, which by the way sucked. The only thing I like was Simm's preformance and unfortunatly, he died...

  • I don't deny that McDowell's Caligula rocked, friend, but can't there be room for two great perverted megalomaniacs in the world? I only wish John Simm had been able to do some of the great scenes McDowell did. This movie had a woefully small amount of Caligula in it.

  • I still say Caligula was 100 better the Tiberus or Augustus...he just got bad wrap from historians cause he was unortodox

  • @simmsquee

to be fair it was about Nero. its just like in real life. you're accounts would be more than your friend because its about you.

  • Unfortunately, I'd have to disagree with you both. :) The best Caligula on film has to be John Hurt in BBC's I, Claudius series. He's far more believable than McDowell.

  • Oooh, John Hurt, yay! I haven't seen "I, Claudius" yet, believe it or not. I definitely should get around to it one of these days though. Can't get enough of my favorite psychotic Roman emperor!

  • Yes- if you loved John Hurt in V for Vendetta, you'll love him I, Claudius. He plays the angry nutcase quite well, and not so melodramatic like McDowell.

  • @simmsquee All the episodes of I Claudius are on YouTube. Zeusbark has them all on his homepage. Watch it. Sian Phillips as Augustus' wife Livia gives one of the greatest acting performances in history.

  • My GOD John Simm is wondeful.

  • That performance probably got him the role of the Master of Doctor Who.

I really enjoyed this thanks for posting

  • kocham kocham kocham tego gościa!!!!!!

  • =O i didnt know it was john simm when he came on! he looked so different! anyway thanks for uploading this

  • I loved it!!!! he makes a good Caligula

  • Yes i do as well he seems to have a certain way with playing bad guys.

  • i can see a lot of ' the master ' in the way he acts this part.

    brilliant. thanks for posting.

  • John's quite down on this movie when asked in interviews but he's said that Caligula was (although he didn't know it) a dress rehearsal for the Master.
