Very nice job, berdelyi. I'd like to see you do an updated one, as someone who has only seen the current version of Boxee, this tutorial looks a little alien.
Very helpful! But I'm with foreigner1999--all of my content is on an external HD behind an airport extreme base station. (That is no moon... it a--nevermind). Anyways, can anyone out there provide some guidance?
i have almost all of my content on a network drive sitting behind an airport extreme base station. I can't seem to find any way to point boxee to it. Any ideas?
My connection is there and I can see the movie files. However, when I click play, nothing happens. They play fine in XBMC and also pictures and music work fine in Boxee.
I dont know what am I doing wrong but boxee does not show my shared computer at all and I did everything that is on the video tutorial for file sharing :(
Does this work with Tiger? I have turned on "Windows file sharing" in the "File sharing" area of sys prefs on my Dad's MBP running Tiger. Only folder it let's him share is Public. Boxee finds the network share but says "no files found". Damn.
I'm slightly confused as to how Boxee puts content into it's Library. For instance, if I go to Boxee click on Videos>TV, any local media on my computer is Indexed fine and shows up great with episode summation, artwork, etc.
However if I add a network source as you did above, Boxee won't Index the files, and instead just shows the folder name/file name.
Cool! I like it...Guess this answers my question but why won't boxee play media bought from itunes.. Mine will play anything as long as it's not from itunes...I thought boxee was designed to play any media?

I agree , what happens when you get "error 2: share not avaiable"?
sinkorswim121 2 years ago
@sinkorswim121 Then you have probably entered the Workgroup name wrong. It has to exactly the same in Boxee as on your Mac.

what do you do when you get an "error 2: share not available"? I did everything exactly as you said

Thanks! I think I found my problem. I over looked the workgroup name in the SMB client settings.
Thanks again!

Can Boxee not index shared sources?

I see! Thanks for sharing. When I did this I got an error 2 source not available.

The content you purchased from iTunes is likely protected with *evil* digital rights management (DRM) technology.
If you're talking about music, you can burn the music to a CD and rip into a non-protected format. You will lose quality during this process.
If you're talking about videos, you will not be able to play them back with. This is how Apple is locking you into their technology.
Boxee will play almost any "non-protected" media.
