All you people who think it was better in the 60s than it is now, perhaps it's because you were young. In 50 years, people will be talking about how much better it was in 2011.
That said, when I was young was the best time in the history of the universe.
Not even THIS?? Will load??? There's NO WAY that many ppl could be trying to watch THIS vid; the world just isn't THAT cool. HOW. HOW. Can THIS not even be able to load...
Good morning, do you like sixties? Listen and pod cast my program " great sound of 60' s " on the site plumfm. Greeting and made blooper in rock and roll.
Salut, vous aimez les sixties ? Ecoutez et podcatez mon émission "le super son des sixties" sur plum fm. Salut et faites gaffe au rock'n roll.
I don't remember ever seeing this show; but I do remember "Wally" actor playing on another soap opera in either late 60s-early 70s! I believe it was "General Hospital".
I appreciate that "Wally" uses those CLEAVER manners, and STANDS at 1:10 when the blond girl comes over to his table. I also appreciate that the pretty blond girl doesn't dance to the beat (on the dance floor) while crossing to Wally's table. Could those snappy lyrics have something to do with their angst filled love affair ?
I did not know what to make of this clip when I first saw it; it seemed like a typical 1960's jukebox TV show clip, made a little more intense by the unhappy young couple. Then I realized, oh, it's a soap opera! I later learned that Ron Sproat wrote for this show. He later wrote for "Dark Shadows" and "Strange Paradise" and they were to be his only writing credits in his TV career. The dancing scenes do remind me of Carolyn Stoddard and friends shaking it up at the Blue Whale on DS.
"Never Too Young" was the first TV soap opera directed at viewers under the age of 30, and aired in a late-afternoon (4 P.M. EDT/EST) timeslot in most cities.
I don't think there's ever been another TV soap so obviously targeted at viewers under 30.
I used to love the show "Never Too Young". The guy announcing the group was a character on the show named Alfie and he owned a club on the beach called "Alfie's High Dive". It was a great show and I was very sorry when it was replaced by "Dark Shadows" which I never liked. I used to race home from high school to watch "Never Too Young". Thanks for posting this - great memories!!!
thanks for posting this. leave it to beaver is my all-time favorite show. i have never seen even a clip of this show before. also in the cast was carol sydes also known as cindy carol. she played alma hanson + 3 other girls on litb. she also played gidget in one movie. i wish i could find more clips of never too young including some that featured her. i love this song, so that was an extra bonus. debbie harry did a remake for married to the mob. thanks again!
Tony Dow was part of this teen soap that ran on ABC in the late afternoons. It lasted for about 6 months until June of 1966, then it was replaced by some forgotten gem called "Dark Shadows."
Have you gone looney. Dark Shadows was a huge success and it lasted for 6 seasons from 1966 to 1971. It was 'Never Too young' that was considered a forgotten gem.
YofaFan, I interviewed Jim Pierson from Dan Curtis Productions and Kathryn Leigh Scott on my radio shows for many years. Dark Shadows was and still is a very big part of my growing up in the 80s on PBS and later on SciFi. I'm enjoying the pre-Barnabas eps on DVD now. Any questions?
WOW>...didnt knew we have this on video!! Thx for posting...this song is so catchy...I thought was a woman who sings that part...liar. liar...LOLOL they dont make more songs like this nowadays.. 60`s was the coolest time ever...too bad..I wasnt born yet ;(
To judge by the number of clips on YouTube, these guys got on a whole bunch of TV shows in their short rock careers. They also were in the movie "It's A Bikini World", which of itself is a notable accomplishment.
CBS may have been called "The Tiffany Network" but ABC was "solid gold" with the kids. Some other ABC shows popular with younger viewers were: "The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet," (for Ricky Nelson tunes), "Leave It To Beaver," "The Patty Duke Show," "Gidget," "The Addams Family," "Bewitched," "Batman," & "The Green Hornet." There were others, but I think these makes the point.
@gymnastix ABC even tried "youth appeal" in it's evening newscasts during the 1960's: For a three year period (January, 1965 through December, 1967), a young Peter Jennings (age 26 when he started) anchored their evening newscast.
Jennings returned to the anchor desk years later as a much more matured, seasoned, and talented newsman, going on to become one of the all-time great network anchors.
ABC was always more innovative & the most youth-friendly of the networks in those days, from shows like "American Bandstand" to the daily '60's pop program, "Where The Actuion Is," to the prime-time rock & roll showcase "Shindig!" & game shows such as "The Dating Game," was even the first network to air a prime-time cartoon series with "The Flintstones."
And of course Tony Dow on this soap had played "Wally Cleaver" on "Leave It To Beaver." It's a shame this soap wasn't given a longer run, but it was replaced on ABC by another soap even more popular with the younger crowd (& older folks too), the first gothic horror soap, "Dark Shadows."
Tommy Rettig on this soap played "Jeff Miller" from 1954-58, the first TV master for "Lassie," before Jon Provost as "Timmy." Later, Rettig went on to write some innovative computer programs, but sadly he died of heart failure while only in his 50's.
this time period seems so much more fiendly and loving and exiting compare to the crazy stuff that's taking place in the world. i am 22 years old so i only know stuff about the 90's. i prefer these old black/white to the soaps they have on tv these days
You're a smart young person. The soaps WERE better then, as were most TV shows. Maybe times were simpler, but the talent & writing was superb in comparison to TV of today.
I invariably stop at black & white shows & films when I channel surf, something so appealing about them & soothing to the eye in comparison to color. I'll take a "Dennis the Menace" or "Leave It To Beaver" over most any sitcom or TV show today, though I still am open to clever, funny newer stuff such as "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Two & A Half Men," etc.
This was truly the first soap aijmed at teens & kids. You may kind of look at it as the ancestor of later teen soaps such as "Swan's Crossing," "Dawson's Creek," etc.
I only wish there were more episodes of soaps saved from the mid-to-late '60's thru mid-'70's, but networks simply re-used their videotapes, especially for daily programming, which included game shows and "The Tonight Show," which is why so many Johnny Carson programs prior to 1975 are lost forever.
The small reserves of soaps & daily shows that do exist from that era are on kinescopes--which are 16mm films of live & videotaped shows, basically shot from the images on a TV monitor, sound recorded externally as well. It sounds oxymoronic to say filmed videotape, but that was so they could re-use the video stock for more programming. Most of the early game shows you see on GSN today in their overnight block are kinescopes.
I wish I could take you on a trip back in time to those days. Even though I'd miss my computer & DVD player, we'd both be happier. I'd probably even remain there. Of course I could see my parents again & all the friends I've lost touch with, and the music & TV would be excellent--that we know!
All you people who think it was better in the 60s than it is now, perhaps it's because you were young. In 50 years, people will be talking about how much better it was in 2011.
That said, when I was young was the best time in the history of the universe.
