Don't know how to make weapons? In the episodes "suited for success" and "May the best pet win" both Rarity and Rainbow Dash reference Tanks.  In the first case "... won't look like a tank..." during the art of the dress song one could make the argument that she is talking about a container. However when Rainbow Dash says "... you just can't stop this little guy- he's like a.. like a Tank!". Ponys know of tanks and we have seen they have cannons as well.
