@jemimakahn I actually disagree with SumitMichie and you... I am sure, this song was great live... Simple lyrics too... The earlier version as a bit mellow, so the criticisms... but this version is pretty upbeat!! The sources of your information is outdated, give the song another ear..

I won't comment of whether it would have been better if another singer sang it. Rahman is great singer and they probably asked him to sing it... In Slumdog, he composed 'Jai Ho' but it was sung by others...

@RMURMURIA, yeah, it's growing on me. I heard the studio version of this used in the promos and it sounds pretty good as well. Just don't think he's a charismatic performer. And I really missed the original singer at the Oscars. Having those girls sing the male parts of Jai Ho at the Oscars and at this event really hurts the song.
