I'm glad I got a DVD-R of THE VIDEO DEAD (along with a VIDEO DEAD t-shirt) at Monster-Mania Con 20 in September! It turned out to be a recording off of the late, lamented Monsters HD! I watched it last month as part of my horror movie-viewing routine, and I was impressed! It is a lot of fun and has great special effects! I hope either MGM includes THE VIDEO DEAD in its Limited Edition Collection (DVD-Rs that included SUGAR HILL and THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN) or Shout Factory acquires it!
Another forgotten gem of the late 80's......cheap and cheerful crap like this used to line the shelves of my local video shop back in the day but now......what's happened? It's all CGI bullshit nowadays which doesn't have the same feel or soul as these cheapies. Even though they were often poorly made, they had a lot of heart and set out to ENTERTAIN in the best way a low budget film could.
Trailer: "Once you see them, you'll never forget them."
You can say that again. And is it just me, or does that one zombie with the bluish skin and goofy hair look like Richard Chamberlain and David Bowie had a baby... and then buried it?
I love this movie...the zombie makeup looks like the clay we used to use in kindergarten. I remember renting this from a mom n pop video store years ago along with Maniac.
@dave704 I still have my old VHS copy that I dubbed from the original, and it still plays! I was around 22 or 23 when this came out in the mid 80's and it was always one of favorite of the oddball obscurities that were going around back in the day. It has a great late-night horror feel to it.
@fronio89 The stupidest movies sometimes make the best memories, especially when they're old B-type movies. As a kid who grew up with WPIX 11's Chiller Theare, and WNEW 5's Creature Features, I can truly say I lived in the day of the late-night monster movie. It's a time that I miss like no other.
@Shawnster65 say no more WPIX era flows through my vains, I remember staying up late watching on WNEW 5 "GarGoyles". Another flick I would watch when on was "Don't Be Afraid of the Dark". And I do not know if you recall on ABC 7, saturday afternoons when toons were over they would show The Weekend Afternoon (something show?) a two parter they had and I always caught the second half, never the first "the Golden Beetle" . It spooked me out big time.....
@fronio89 Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark!!! I remember seeing it when it had it's world premeire on ABC back in 1973 ( I was 9 years old) and I didn't sleep that night, LOL That was a great movie!
"Gargoyles". I have the DVD and remember it playing on the CBS Late Movie on Friday, reight after the Planet Of The Apes TV series and Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Such great days!
@Shawnster65 and you cannot forget "Devil Dog" , and that reminds me of another flick I seen but I cannot remember on channel 5 ,a horror flick were in the scene I recalled in this castle with these people dressed like kkks in a throne room, opened a hatch in the floor to this pit with some kind of blob shit creature in it they threw the victim in.
The Hound Of Hell! I remember that premeired on CBS. A bit dated compared to today, but it had that spooky 70's ear "weee-ooooo" music in it, and the opening possession scene with the puppy was a bit disturbing.
And, it also starred Richard Crenna, aka as Rambo's commanding officer Col. Trautman. As to the "castle blob monster" you're refeering to, not sure which one that one was.
i was looking at an old fangoria mag today at work and seen a pic of this film in it . id forgoten about this film i was ten when i watched it . shit me right up as a kid but looks cheesy as fuck now but would love to see it again glad i seen your clip cheers
I bought this movie for $5 at a horror convention. I thought that it was a pretty decent B-movie for what it is, despite the god aweful acting and diolaug.
This was my favorite movie growing up in the 80's. It came on USA one night and I recorded it and watched it over and over. The girl who played Zoe Blair is now an attorney in CA. Roxanna A. Manuel Phone: (213) 443-3000. Her actor name was Roxanna Augesen ... Zoe Blair
@SouthernHipHopHead dont know, it was scheduled for release november of last year, then they randomly called it off seriously like weeks before its release. i have it, but mine is a vhs transfer on dvd, go to conventions, youll find it.
This movie is crap, always was, always will be, but I'd rather watch this again than any Zack Snyder turd.
