  • Rule #1 No Creosoted or Pressure treated wood should ever be used unless it is for ornamentals only. The preservatives ( like Arsenic) leach out into the soil and can be taken up by your plants.

  • expertvillage should hang their collective heads in shame...anyone with even a passing interest in gardening knows better than to use railroad ties for anything other than ornamentals

  • Creosote rail ties? Some experts! 1 star for poisoning people.

  • You are right, railroad ties should not be used near food crops but because they leech creosote into the soil. You may have been thinking about treated lumber with arsenic.
