Great music and great band but why doesn't the BBC broadcast TV jazz performances from the proms, this year it was a tribute to Stan Kenton, would love to have seen it.
This is one of the best jazz orchestras in the world, but the pianist is playing as though he's never heard a Basie record in his life. Also the ryhthm section below Wyntons' solo don't quite do the feel justice. They probably played this stuff so many times years ago that they forgot how to phrase it. Also it's weird hearing the JALO playing stuff that isn't Ellington or Marsalis material.
@PINCHUNO Sounds good to me. It's swingin', that's all I need. Also, I've seen the LCJO at least 5 times. When they weren't doing an extended work by Wynton, they always did Basie stuff. They branch out far more than people give them credit for.
loved the ensemble dynamics at the end, didn't like changing the rythmn near the very end to quarter triplets from Frank's original "and four and." Awesome, amazing, overall performance.

This is the original arrangement, I believe, because the jazz ensemble I am in did the same arrangement.

ohh, it's the original Frank Foster chart, I just didn't like the liberties they took with it. Overall, totally sick though.

Yeah. In the chart it has the "and four and" rhythm written, but above it, it says to lay back.
