I'm curious - given that this tune was written around 1964, was it in any way meant as an "answer" record to Dean Martin's "Everybody Loves Somebody"? (Listen to the lyrics of that, then to Dino's lounge-lizard classic, and let us know.)
@John1948ThirteenB - I wasn't talking so much about ol' Dino as much as I was the message inherent in each of the songs (which seemed polar opposite to one another). Just as I saw the O'Jays' "For the Love of Money" to be a somewhat thinly-veiled answer to Pink Floyd's "Money."

@wmbrown6 I seriously doubt it. I don't think Dean Martin was much of an influence on soul music.
