Actually, this is another quite average 'review' However at least we know that you upgraded from the HD280pro. Please let us know how they sound, what is the soundstage, how well are instruments placed in 3 dimentions. Are the vocals well defined and forwards. Any sssibilance or mide bass boom. So a good first attempt but not really a review persay. Have another go and address the SQ directly. Thanks Harry
2:20 sweat is what makes the ear cuffs dry and crust out. and to restore ear cuff quality just smear some ArmorAll leather care on them and let it sit for about 5 min then there you go brand new ear cuffs :D i do this all the time on my ath-m50s and i had them for about a year now and if i didnt put the armorall on it, i would of had to replace them a few times actually.
@haorengo Yea you should take a look at the AKG K181 they get great reviews over at headfi or even the cheaper AKG K518, the Sennheiser HD25-1 ii or the bench mark as these are the best sounding cans around but look terrible. The Grado SR80i or SR60i are meant to be good aswell as are the Denon D1001 or Denon d2000. These audio Technica M50's are meant to be great better than the beats. If you want lot's of Bass with good mids and highs the AKG k181 (DJ cans) are pretty amazing.
@haorengo The grado sr225i and 325i will have a clean sound, good mids and highs controlled bass but not as extended as the M50. Personally I would go over to headfi and check out the reviews on these models but the M50s get really great reviews and provide the most bang for your buck. The M50s do provide alot of musicality for reference type headphones, they are not fatiguing to listen to and will provide a good listening experience, compared to some of the more neutral cans eg senn, grado.
So the drivers in headphones sound better if they're more loose so you just play music so you can get the drivers more loose, more free...wow this sounds wrong lol.
@wormsdriver76 best price is anywhere from 110-100, maybe 90 with a sketchy source.
You could google "1-ATHM50-SAVE60" and get a lot of links to sound professionals. Bout $125 after shipping and a pretty trustworthy dealer so I've heard.
Ever get a chance to audition the Ultrasone HFI-580? Even though my heart tells me to go with open back cans, I'm debating between the M50 and the 580. Both are supposed to have some heavy lows, but the 580 looks like it is a slightly smaller phone for better portability. Great review.
These headphones are actually pretty light and I have no problem wearing them around my neck. It's easy to just pull them off from your head and keep the music playing around your neck while talking with people.
These Audio Technicas would greatly suit your needs, especially if you plan on using them with an mp3 player. These run great without a headphone amp if you don't have one, and will also run great off of your laptop.
They do leak a little bit of sound, but really no one will notice it when you're out and about. The only environment which this would cause a problem in is in places like libraries if you like your music turned up.
Also, I use audio processing on my computer (Breakaway Audio) to modify all the range, compression and bass presence. I would recommend it if you're using the stock PC sound EQ; it gives a great deal more control and even gets a lot of bass going even though the 280's. Really looking forward to the performance from the M50's. Thanks again for the review, just what I needed.
Unfortunately there is no straight forward answer to that. It all really depends on the headphones. I would suggest heading over to head-fi.org and looking up any specific headphones you're interested in. They have lots of good reviews and suggested headphone amps if the headphones needs any :)
Yeah, i think that way too. I like to feel the harshness of loud music in ours ears
Hm, great then. Already found a store here that sells them, i'll go there there and try them, but i'm really into buying them so i don't think i'll leave the store empty handed :)
Unfortunately, I no longer have the Sennheiser HD 280's with me so I wont be able to do a video on how to mod them. Search google for "e90post blu tak" and it should be the first link (sorry cant post url's here) for the step by step process that i used.
Be careful! the original forum poster and I are not responsible for any damage!
My steelseries syberia begun to get a bit greasy, and i can feel it in my ears, which i really don't like...
Are they easy to mod ? Like you said, we can get a tighter, more defined bass while using these products... What are they, some kind of plastic or so ?
How long do we have to "burn" the cans in order to get the bass at 100% ? 24, 48 h ?
i think i'll try them at a local store, but i don't think they will be at their top perfomance...
The cushions on my M50s have not gotten greasy at all actually. The only problem i've had with the cushions is that they can get sweaty on hot days, but I just wipe them off with a dry napkin which does the job, no grease left behind for me. I have not come across any mods for the audio technicas, the mod that i tried was for the sennheiser hd 280's. I dont think the audio technicas need a mod anyway, the bass is plentiful yet not overbearing. I think 36h should be enough burn in.
@Bitcrushable Hm, thanks for the reply. great, i'm really falling in love with these headphones.
just one more question, which i think you didn't read...
Confort, from 0 to 10 ?
and please, consider confort while walking, taking buses and all that crap a regular young adult like me does. Do they tend to fall off your head ? Do they keep the sound in the cans, or everyone around you can listen to your music ?
thanks, and sorry for all that spam, it's just me being really curious
I would rate the comfort a 9 out of 10. As i mentioned they do get a bit sweaty on hot days, also they can make your head hurt after hours of use. I have a smaller head, and if you have a larger head the tight grip might be more uncomfortable.
The headphones stay on great while walking due to that tight grip. There is some sound leakage, i have to turn down the volume in places like libraries. These are definitely better at keeping sound in than open back headphones though.
@Bitcrushable Hm, yeah, but that's a big problem, since you can just take them off for a while and they'll dry very quickly
My head is not big, so i think i won't be disturbed by it...
Hm. well, i really like to listen to my music at maximum volume, i know that will tear my hearing apart but sometimes i just like to chill and pound my ears with a good bass...
imagine a full enough bus, in the middle of the trafic... will i be satisfied using these ones ?
I love listening to my music at high volumes, thats when it sounds the best!
I take the bus home from school and wear these headphones. They do a great job of isolating sound so you can focus on the music. No one looks at me weird so I don't think they can hear much of my music even at loud volumes. If you are in the middle of traffic it should be no problem at all.
Well, i've been trying to decide between a denon hd2000, beyers 770 pro and these ones... And so far, all those "professional" reviews i've been watching didn't clarified my questions: bass and low frequency response while listening dubstep, dnb, etc.
You just did it. Continue to amuse semi-audiophiles.
I'll try to get these ones.
I've been using a Steelseries siberia to listen to music, but only because i've bought them for playing and didn't have the money to buy other pair of cans...
thanks for ur review man, n u look cool btw lol
